I am not sure what, but I have seen their previous demonstrations, and support their cause.

We were given badges at one event, and travelled home on public transport wearing them, and received absolutely nothing but 100% support from other travellers, which was nice, as I expected some hostility, publicly wearing their badges while roads in London were closed by them

Which government? The government of 66million people? What about the governments of billions of people in Asia, for instance?

I agree mustlovegin.
I read on here and see in the media what an awful country UK is and how the world despises us.
Then I’m told the UK must lead by example. Well if this country is so despicable who will follow our example?
Will China and India do as we tell them? I doubt it very much.

mustlovegin · 23/08/2021 13:45

a lot of the pollution in Asia is our pollution, which we outsource

So the billions of people in Asia don't eat, don't travel, don't consume? All production is for the UK? Have you been to Asia OP?

mustlovegin · 23/08/2021 13:49

Yes, the leftist media (aka The Guardian and associated cronies) plus champagne socialist MNetters. Thankfully the majority of people have working neurons inside their heads.

yes, I have been to Asia, and no, in general, most of the people I met there do not travel, or consume even a quarter of what is considered "normal" in the UK

That is a generalisation of course, but the cultures I have come across in Asia are likely to have a tiny fraction of the environmental impact that we have

You know China is the world's leader in renewable energy right?
mustlovegin · 23/08/2021 13:52

Yes, sure...

mustlovegin · 23/08/2021 13:56

Another dubious statement. But, even if they were, it wouldn't make any difference as their (and many other Asian nations') populations are in the billions. It would take a lot of 'renewing' for those countries to be on par with any pollution, meat eating, etc in the UK

DynamoKev · 23/08/2021 14:23

XR keep the spotlight on climate breakdown which is crucial to teal political action. That's why we'll be there
No XR focus attention on their twatty antics and meanwhile the government smiles and does fuck all and ordinary people have their ordinary lives disrupted for no gain.

DoubleShotEspresso · 23/08/2021 14:26

@BelleOfTheProvince this bunch of entitled Trustafarian's have never had to be responsible for their actions. Daddy's always got a contact....
Just watching this live on the news, utter contempt for ordinary people trying to go about their business and life , while these idiots behave as if they're at a festival. The cost of policing , medical attention and mess this will cause is outrageous .
And we are expected to put up with 2 weeks of this nonsense? Again? For what?
Their cause is done a great disservice by these scenes. This isn't urgent action, it's a batshit crazy bunch indulged in a fortnights free party .

@Darker

Don’t worry. Climate change won’t affect the deserving poor. Oh wait…
Ah so let's just damage them earlier?

Do you know how ridiculous that sounds 'you will be really badly impacted by climate change at some point. So we are just going to damage you now. I know you won't be able to pay your bills, but you know......its what's best for you really.....we just know better than you'

Darker · 23/08/2021 14:43

You know that isn’t what I’m saying, Hekatestorch.

Hekatestorch · 23/08/2021 14:50

From what I found XR has one group in China - XR Hong Kong. Who dont seem to have done anything or even updated their social media page, for at least year.

XR China for group doesn't seem to active either. There's an active Instagram account for XR China run by '7 girls'. Which doesn't seem to have an official backing. That averages less than one post a month. But actually just seems to be more of a personal Instagram, until recently.

So it would be interesting to see what OP, who claims she isn't part of XR, knows about it.

Theluggage15 · 23/08/2021 14:53

God you sound so patronising OP, just like your silly little friends. I really doubt you know anything about Asia.

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 23/08/2021 14:53

That is a generalisation of course, but the cultures I have come across in Asia are likely to have a tiny fraction of the environmental impact that we have.

You mean like flying long haul to Asia and travelling across a number of countries? It's sounding like 'do as I say and not as I do'.

I hope you got there by some method that didn't contribute to pollution.
Hekatestorch · 23/08/2021 14:54

@Darker

You know that isn’t what I’m saying, Hekatestorch.
But it is.

You think hurting these people now, is acceptable because they might be hurt in the future.

Do you feel the same about disabled people needing to get to their appointments? It's OK for then to miss their appointments now, because there won't be any help for them in the future?

That's exactly what you are saying. They are acceptable collateral damage to XR. And you seem to agree with XR on that stance

I worked there for some time, in areas without internet access

I'm on a couple of XR Facebook groups. Had to prove my credentials to get on. They're not public or open.

I'm getting disillusioned. There's a lot of angry talk and very little practical action. They seem to enjoy having climate change as a cause for rebellion a bit too much. I'm not convinced they really want it to be sorted as they'd have nothing to shout about.
