OMG, this is an easy thing to happen, even if they DON'T have the same name. I have sent texts to, and rang the wrong people (from my mobile phone,) quite a few times, but luckily it's always been innocuous, and boring stuff. Grin

@Okaygreatthanks Good job it wasn't something rude. Shock

Don't worry though eh? As some posters have said, just text the plumber again, and say 'sorry mate, that was meant for my husband!'

Shame it wasn't a whatsapp message, because you can delete them, even when they're 'sent.'

@mygenericusername

At least you didn’t text the plumber complaining about the plumber. I own that badge.

Oh dear! Grin

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/08/2021 11:13

Just apologise and laugh it off - I'm sure he's had worse

Mine was obviously online dating, because I got a message to say "Glad I clicked on you ... really great night and you've got a lovely smile and great body"

I'm 65 and still pull his leg about it Grin

AngryWhompingWillow · 19/08/2021 11:13

@Monestera

I'm 50% certain that I accidentally ended a phone call with my boss with, "ok, bye, love you!".
Grin I bet he didn't dare mention it when he saw you, in case you meant it!

I did once send an email to a DIRECTOR of the company I worked at - some 20 years ago, with XXX on the end. I never lived it down. I think people were still ribbing me about it 5 years after. I was almost glad to leave in the end! Shock Grin

Lol, I once sent a message to my husband telling him to sneak in to the house for a quickie while the kids were playing outside...complete with instructions to leave the back door open so we could hear the kids.....

except I sent it to my SIL by accident. I quickly sent an apology message and was so embarrassed that it spoiled the mood lol.

TatianaBis · 19/08/2021 11:15

I'm glad you have a healthy sex life but please don't invite me for dinner in the future'

😂 Great response.

BingoBhango · 19/08/2021 11:16

I sold something on Gumtree and was texting directions to my house to the buyer. I then realised I needed a few things to make dinner so sent a message to ex DP saying "Hiya, could you please grab some tomatoes on your way back but don't get the cheap ones". The poor buyer arrived at my house with a pack of tomatoes looking quite worried! Grin

TatianaBis · 19/08/2021 11:16

On the plus side OP, at least it wasn’t a pic of your growler.

MushMonster · 19/08/2021 11:18

He will get it, I bet you. I have never seen a recall message work yet.
I would send an apologetic message "sorry, that was meant to be for my husband LOL"

CharityDingle · 19/08/2021 11:18

Lol, a very easy thing to happen. I used to add an extra digit to the end of my (pain in the arse) manager's number in case I ever texted her by mistake.

At least it couldn't go anywhere, if I did text her by mistake. Grin
She had the same first name as a good friend.

vixeyann · 19/08/2021 11:26

Just apologise! You are not alone - did this when had first driving lesson with new instructor and when I got in sent a text meant for OH calling him a dickhead (light heartedly). Only sent it to the instructor. Luckily he had a sense of humour and didn't take it as a critique of his skills!

patkinney · 19/08/2021 11:26

Just do as the third message said: "Oops, sorry, obvs that wasn't for you! Blush emoji."

But this did make me laugh because I was watching that old 70's sitcom about self-sufficency recently, 'The Good Life' & in one early episode Barbara is worried about paying the window cleaner (or some such workman) so tries to offer 'payment in kind' - eggs from their chicken, I think. He thinks she means something else!

This reminded me of that, but in a techno age kind of a way. Grin

Mrsfrumble · 19/08/2021 11:45

Aaahhh, this thread has cheered me right up! Hopefully OP has realised that compared to some of the howlers on here her’s was a minor embarrassment!

Amazingly - given my generally disordered brain - the worst I’ve done is to add kisses on a text to the babysitter; the teenage son of a friend. Luckily he saw the funny side and didn’t tell his mum I was some sort of predator, grooming him with my unsolicited affection Grin

Dontwatchfootball · 19/08/2021 12:01

Thought it was going to be something horrible! I would not stress, just send a jokey text - sorry, that was meant for my husband, you dont have to xyz. And ps, you are very nice but I dont love you!

Cryalot2 · 19/08/2021 12:09

There is nothing for it. You must leave the country immediately after smashing phone to bits.Blush [laugh]
It happens . If plumber did see it he will either think you want an affair 😂 or see the funny side

CloudPop · 19/08/2021 12:10

@mygenericusername

Argh. The old if I delete it, throw the phone out of the window and smash it to a million pieces technique.

At least you didn’t text the plumber complaining about the plumber. I own that badge.

Ouch.
Tempusfudgeit · 19/08/2021 12:12

I was getting ready for a date and texting my best friend as well as the date. Bad idea. BF said 'How are you getting on?' I replied 'Scrubbing, plucking and shaving like mad!' Of course I sent it to the date Blush

Genuine LOL at this. Love these threads!

Perhaps the reason these things happen is to provide people with hilarious anecdotes later? when the shame finally abates

tcjotm · 19/08/2021 12:29

@Okaygreatthanks

All fine I think, message was inane though full of pink hearts (was delivering the shit sandwich of something DH has to do TODAY even though he is trapped in meetings), plumber is cool and has very dry sense of humour so have relaxed slightly.
Op he sounds like the perfect person to have made this mistake with.

I was going to say you’d have to change your name and move far away; breaking ties with all who know you, but in these circumstances you’re totally fine

Fernando072020 · 19/08/2021 12:33

@CanofCant

Is he called Garry? Grin
I pictured a Paul actually.
Malin52 · 19/08/2021 12:35

I told my boss on Teams chat that he needed to put the bedlinen on a very hot wash because we'd left it a bit too long.

In my defence I was very overworked and tired and I'd teams chatted him rather than WhatsApp my DH. Blush

He will have got it

Send another text saying apologies that was meant for another (insert first name)

Then change your contact details for the plumber to show as plumber as first name then whatever his first name is as his surname

itsgettingwierd · 19/08/2021 12:44

@SmidgenofaPigeon

How? Even with the same first name I don’t see how this happened.
My dad sent a message to our what's app group meant for his mate who's name didn't even start with a K (our what's app group is called "kids!").

It was because the message was to cancel something because he needed to help one of us out in an emergency!
