Would you let your 16yr DD go to Reading Festival?
IMO DD is not very 'aware' of what's happening around her.

DH says she can go, I'm saying she can't.

Just wondering what others think?

Hi I used to do Reading Festival back in late 90s and early 2000s. I am a seasoned festival goer. I took my daughter who was 14 at the time to RF in 2019. I stayed in white camping as its meant to be quieter less crazy - which to be fair it was. As we walked through different campsites we saw lots of kids off their faces and one had a cardiac arrest in front of me and my daughter. Medics were there. It was really hot, they had done too much too quick and we're drinking too. My daughter was horrified. My mum instincts kicked in and I just felt so worried for these kids. This was Thurs and Friday. Most of them go home by then as too poorly. Sat and Sunday is usually day tix and the arena is packed solid. I vowed not to go back but I am going this weekend with her and her friend. They are both 16 and just finished GCSE'S. They are sensible. My daughter has been going to festivals for the last 10yrs too. I still won't let her go on her own. We use bells and padlocks on the tents at night too. You may think this is too much but it really isn't with young vulnerable girls.

If you feel your daughter is sensible enough and her friends will look after her and you have the drug and drink talk then she might be perfectly fine. Its when you get the pushy kids. Only you know your daughter. Prepare her and she will be fine x

My 17 year old DD is off to Reading with 3 others tomorrow for the first time. She's really organised and gone out and got
all that she needs but I need to make sure she has enough money for the weekend.

Obviously I can transfer her money over the weekend in an emergency but I have no idea on what sort of amount she'll spend.

Can anyone give me a rough idea? Thanks !

My DS16 is going with a group of friends from school for the weekend and I must say most of the comments have helped put my mind at rest. I’m not worried about him getting Covid as he’s just had it but I wouldn’t be surprised if a few of his friends missed a couple of days of school in isolation.

DS has saved £200, but I'm hoping he won't need to use it all!

@howtodealwithit thanks for replying! Okay £200 was around what I was thinking she might need so good to know that someone else is taking that much.

I know a lot of 16 years olds going but lots have also cancelled their plans due to the spread of covid during the boardmasters in Cornwall. 5,000 cases!!

quittingteacher · 25/08/2021 11:52

Yes I've read about Boardmasters!
The rules for Reading are that you need to prove you're double jabbed or need to show proof of a negative lateral flow taken on the day of arrival (obviously it's very easy to just report a negative test without doing one).
Then, every time you leave and re-enter the festival, you need another negative lateral flow.
I'm not sure how much difference this will make but I'm not sure there's much more they can do either.
I'll have to tell DD to stay up in the loft when she returns!

Mommybunny · 25/08/2021 20:02

From what DS told me proof of positive PCR within last 120 days (which he has) is also sufficient. Hope that’s right!

quittingteacher · 25/08/2021 21:55

Oh yes that's right too. If you've had it before then you're alright.

At boardmasters you had to prove your Covid status (double vax, positive test within 180 days or recent LFT) on arrival and then every 72 hours. Got a band to say it had been checked.

Covid rules seem to be the same at Leeds.

Not spoken to Dd yet to see if anyone checked, but they did at boardmasters.

ShaunaTheSheep · 26/08/2021 09:25

For anyone going to Reading, take your own supply of LFT.
I dropped DS off last night and there were big electronic signs saying that tests are NOT available at the gates.

HadEnoughOfBears · 31/08/2021 17:13

How are everyone's happy campers? Mine got back at 4pm yesterday filthy, hungry and missing half her stuff.
Has had the time of her life.

Tested positive for Covid already though 🙈

Mommybunny · 31/08/2021 20:41

Mine has just recovered his voice after arriving home at 8:30 yesterday morning filthy and exhausted. He appreciated the cooked breakfast and lunch I made him in between bouts of sleeping it off. Sounds like he had a wonderful time with his friends though they’re dropping like flies with Covid tests.
