To think all older boys clothes are Marvel, Minecraft or mud-coloured

My big-for-age 4yo has just tipped over into needing 7-8 t-shirts.

I still want him to wear bright coloured, cute designs (and he still likes them too) but 7 seems to be the cut off point where (unless you’re willing to spend a fortune on Boden or scandi) everything turns into a sea of sludgey coloured designs or a walking advert for PlayStation.

Is there a secret place I can buy nice bright coloured designs on a reasonable budget? It’s depressing.

Mountain warehouse sells these!

ACupOfTeaSolvesEverything · 17/08/2021 20:08

Next and TK Maxx often have brighter, less mainstream stuff.

Wheresmycider · 17/08/2021 20:09

Second for mountain warehouse and there is usually a sale.
Good rugged trainers too!

converseandjeans · 17/08/2021 20:09

There's plenty of sports brands which are nice colours in those sizes

Gap are reasonably priced

John Lewis also have brightly coloured T-shirts and tops

My nephew is that age and wears mainly pokemon stuff. At a guess I'd say it's from Asda or Primark.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 17/08/2021 20:12

Fat face is great as is mountain warehouse, which isn't all outdoorsy clothes despite its name and does some great women's clothes too.

I feel your pain Dd has always been extremely tall and was already in adult clothes and shoes by 11 as she was taller than me. And alot of clothes were/are inappropriate for a child still in Primary or Dd wasn't interested in them, crop tops, ripped jeans or anything tight. Although she has always favoured khaki and mustard colour clothes so often chose her bits from the muddy coloured 'boys' section.

InDubiousBattle · 17/08/2021 20:14

Next is pretty good for multi packs of plain, brightly coloured t-shirts.

StrangeToSee · 17/08/2021 20:15

Next sells lots of brights for boys, both patterns and plain. Or get secondhand Scandi online?

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 17/08/2021 20:16

Second hand Boden, H&M sometimes, Next and Fat face. I think you do have to shop around a bit.

Notapheasantplucker · 17/08/2021 20:17

Try Very, they've sometimes got good stuff in.

Baystard · 17/08/2021 20:19

Yes I agree OP. Trying to find pyjamas for DS that aren't Marvel, Spiderman, military camouflage (which i find seriously distasteful for kids), or XBox. It's actually really sad, he loves his old pyjamas that had cute penguins, or jungle animals etc and the ones in his size are now so dull.

JingleCatJingle · 17/08/2021 20:21

Uniqlo, Gap, M&S and Fruit of the Loom via Amazon/ebay.

lunar1 · 17/08/2021 20:22

Take a look at the Hype website. You can get their clothes from Next and River Island as well. I get lots of my boys things there.

JimmyLennon · 17/08/2021 20:22

I have this problem with DD. She's 6 but in 8-9 and everything is skin tight or a crop top. Shorts barely cover her bum and it's all beige/neutral when she loves colours/patterns. I have a 9 year old boy too and you're right about it all being marvel and Minecraft, although that's fine for him as he loves both. Definitely boring colours though!

mnahmnah · 17/08/2021 20:34

Next the shop isn’t great, but online is good. I get both my DS clothes mainly from there, M&S and H&M

TheKeatingFive · 17/08/2021 20:36

M&S, Fatface, H&M are all decent

ToykotoLosAngeles · 17/08/2021 20:41

YANBU. I understand 7 year old boys may not want fire engines on their tops, but give me some bright stripes at least!

DS is in 3-4 and I've been buying lots of plain block coloured t shirts from Tu at Sainsbury's as he loves yellow. At least they're not camo or sludge green.

cannaethink · 17/08/2021 20:42

I’m not a fan of character or sludgy colours either but find plenty of nice stuff between Morrison’s, Sainsbury’s and primark.

MoiCnoi · 17/08/2021 20:44

Fat Face, Zara, some H&M, M&S, John Lewis.

There's defo a gap in the market. Your not alone in this search

EnamelWoman · 17/08/2021 20:45

I bought a couple of bright t-shirts for my children from Lands End recently

Idontbelieveit14 · 17/08/2021 20:52

Next

RicStar · 17/08/2021 20:57

H&M, Sainsburys (sometimes), Next and Unique, my 7 year old owns no sludge coloured or military clothes, but it is increasingly hard as he gets older,..I agree. His 9 year old sister I find even harder not to get weird teen looking clothes, she doesn't like pink or sparkle either. TK Maxx used to be good, but seem to have had less kids clothes there lately.

RicStar · 17/08/2021 20:58

Unique = uniqlo

Maryis · 17/08/2021 21:00

I have a 4 year old also in 7-8 who also isn't into gaming, marvel, Pokémon and isn't going to join the army (all the camo!) Mountain warehouse is good, also h&m, I also like turtle dove London (good sales!) Also scandi like Duns, maxomorra and frugi are good! Sometimes there is some good stuff in next or Matalan too, I'm a bit more concerned for when he's in 8-9

Popskipiekin · 17/08/2021 21:01

I just bought a fab pack of bright pokemon tshirts from H&M. Sizes 6-8 and 8-10. Also some amazing reversible sequins dinosaur and whale ones.
