To think all older boys clothes are Marvel, Minecraft or mud-coloured

My big-for-age 4yo has just tipped over into needing 7-8 t-shirts.

I still want him to wear bright coloured, cute designs (and he still likes them too) but 7 seems to be the cut off point where (unless you’re willing to spend a fortune on Boden or scandi) everything turns into a sea of sludgey coloured designs or a walking advert for PlayStation.

Is there a secret place I can buy nice bright coloured designs on a reasonable budget? It’s depressing.

It does just seem to be projecting adult interests onto kids though - I can’t really imagine mine ever saying ‘mum can I wear my surfboard t shirt today?!’

Omg my 4 year old does! He's been on his older cousin's paddleboards etc and it's not unusual for tv characters like go jetters etc to be depicted surfing etc. If you live in a coastal location or like beach holidays kids are exposed to different things. My son would associate surfing/watersports with happy beach holidays.

Lands End - search for graphic tees in their website. Wash and tumble dry brilliantly, the ones I've bought have lasted 4 kids. A bit like Boden in that you should never buy at full price, they have a lot of sales and if you sign up to the mailing list they send lots of codes for 25-40 % off and sometimes 50 or even 60. I only buy at 40% discount.

H&M - I buy stuff in their size and wait for new stock

I've put away a navy jumper with rainbow stripes across the chest. Blue with white stipe long sleeve tops etc.

If I see something I buy the next size too if its nice. Asda can be good for plain hoodies.

These threads come up a lot, but surely its consumer led so there must be a load of people liking and choosing to buy all this stuff.

It's a bit chicken and egg though. If that's all there is, that's all you can buy.

You can buy plain fruit of the loom t shirts on amazon and also some iron on or sew on motifs if you can be bothered

I like Landsend a lot. I tend to wait until the sale though

Some Zara and H&M.
My 12 year old wears unisex looking stuff from the girls section out of choice and has since about age 8.
Oddly adult young men's clothes from ASOS etc has a far more interesting selection than young men's/boys stuff.

Look outside supermarkets. H&M and Uniqlo are perfectly reasonable and many bright colours.
