Think my landlord neighbours are BU

Next door is a lovely lady who rents. We are street of semi detached and she is the not attached side. We don’t have drives but we have separate paths between our houses. Come home today to find scaffolding on our path, completing blocking access to our back garden.

If the the landlord or agency had asked I would have said yes but to not even mention it? I think they have rights? But they are fucking unneighbourly right? Tennant and landlord.

I doubt the tenant has had any say in the matter.

toughdaay · 17/08/2021 17:56

YANBU but it's unlikely to be anything to do with the tenant. She maybe didn't even know. Your issue should be with the landlord/agency.

Clocktopus · 17/08/2021 17:56

Could it have been an emergency of some sort, for example a chimney or roofing issue, and you weren't home to ask? I'd give them a knock to find out more information before getting angry about it.

LIZS · 17/08/2021 17:58

Why blame the tenant? Presumably the ll is paying for the work and should have dropped you a line out of courtesy. Who owns the pathway?

ThreeWitches · 17/08/2021 18:01

And you're blaming the tenant because?

MadeOfStarStuff · 17/08/2021 18:01

YANBU about the agency/LL but it’s highly unlikely the tenant is the one who arranged it so YABU to blame them.

Keeva2017 · 17/08/2021 18:04

It’s the landlord I’m angry at but tenant could have knocked on surely. Not to mention as dp was leaving she was moving her bins on to our path so ensure she had a clear path Hmm

OP posts:
CluelessHamster · 17/08/2021 18:05

It's not the tenant's fault. She probably didn't have a lot of say in the matter and would have expected the landlord to ask your permission.

Yanbu to be angry with the landlord though. How rude of them.

Keeva2017 · 17/08/2021 18:11

Il take that Iv been unreasonable in respect of the tenant. I’m just frustrated that we are good neighbours to her and even after the fact she hasn’t acknowledged it and moved her bins onto our property to make her access easier. She clearly isn’t bothered about being neighbourly.

OP posts:
MadeOfStarStuff · 17/08/2021 18:12

It’s not the tenants job to tell you though, it’s the LL! The tenant probably assumed (or was told) that the agency had discussed it with you

Keeva2017 · 17/08/2021 18:12

Fyi I know this is making me unreasonably ragey!!!

She probably assumed the landlord has informed you It's literally none of her responsibility. None.
pinkcircustop · 17/08/2021 18:15

She doesn’t need to inform you. It’s not her property. She probably assumed the landlord did.

BluebellsGreenbells · 17/08/2021 18:17

You can ask them to move it or charge them a rental fee

Other way it isn’t good

BruceAndNosh · 17/08/2021 18:17

Ask tenant for landlord details. Phone him /her and say the scaffolding needs to be removed TOMORROW.

Keeva2017 · 17/08/2021 18:18

I know she didn’t need to do anything but come on if you are at least bothered about a neighbourly relationship you at least make an effort no? I don’t need to put her bin out when she forgets or keep my kids inside until a reasonable hour in a morning but I do it.

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 17/08/2021 18:20

The laws in this country means she likely would not have known, would not have had to agree, and has ZERO rights over her HOME being invaded by work people in the middle of summer

Keeva2017 · 17/08/2021 18:21

@BruceAndNosh it’s an agency that runs it I think so thought I’d bypass her and go to them? As disappointed as I am in her it’s the landlord im aiming my rage at. Il try her if I don’t get anywhere with agency.

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 17/08/2021 18:24

You can get it taken down by the way - they need your permission to put it on your land

I would go mental and have taken it down by now if they'd blocked my access Grin

Billandben444 · 17/08/2021 18:24

You say she's a lovely lady and you know the scaffolding is nothing to do with her so I'd let her off he hook. Ask her for landlord's number and call him for a rant and then have a glass of wine. I'd be pissed as well but not not at her.

mumwon · 17/08/2021 18:25

usually its the agent that organises things on behalf of the landlord - I would ask for the agents contact number/name

LizzieW1969 · 17/08/2021 18:26

You’re being unfair to be disappointed in the tenant. I doubt she’s at all happy with the situation herself and she’s having to cope with workmen in her home.

But yes, the landlords are being massively unreasonable and YANBU to ge raging at them.

Wimowehwimowehwimowehwimoweh · 17/08/2021 18:26

She probably knew there was work going on and that scaffolding would go up on her property-hence the bin moving- but it’s likely she had no clue they would need to also be on your property.
Just knock and ask her if they said how long it will be.

Keeva2017 · 17/08/2021 18:29

@Billandben444 your advice is sound and when Iv gotten over my irrational bin rage il take your advice.

Just needed someone to hear my angry. Thanks everyone.

( landlord still gonna get it!)

OP posts:
cansu · 17/08/2021 18:30

You are being ridiculous. Given that she has absolutely no say in the scaffolding, what would she have said to you? I'm sorry but the landlord is putting up scaffolding to do some repairs. How would this have helped you?? How is this an issue in any case?
