Think my landlord neighbours are BU

Next door is a lovely lady who rents. We are street of semi detached and she is the not attached side. We don’t have drives but we have separate paths between our houses. Come home today to find scaffolding on our path, completing blocking access to our back garden.

If the the landlord or agency had asked I would have said yes but to not even mention it? I think they have rights? But they are fucking unneighbourly right? Tennant and landlord.

I think the very definition of neighbourly is moaning on mumsnet about the behaviour of your neighbours rather than talking to them, so well done, you're the perfect neighbour.

memberofthewedding · 17/08/2021 18:34

Send the LL with a notice informing him/her of your charges for rental of your property and that you will instruct your solicitor accordingly. That should concentrate their mind.

Passmethefrazzles · 17/08/2021 18:45

Not sure if I’ve misread this but is the scaffolding on your property?

Dangernouse5 · 17/08/2021 18:50

There are two separate paths, each own half the land in between houses. The scaffolding has been put up in both including blocking OPs path on her land

The LL/ managing agent should have sought permission as you could insist it is removed. Of course you won't do that, but a complaint addressed to landlord at NDNs address and also complaint letter to managing agent is definitely a reasonable response.

Keeva2017 · 17/08/2021 18:54

Alright, calm down @sirfredfredgeorge I am the best neighbour and moaning on aibu is a medically proven method of rage reduction.

Don’t we all get annoyed at minor things? Didn’t I say it was the landlord I was angry at?

Il still put her bins out for her when she forgets every other week.

That's really bad. Not the tenant but the landlord. Blocking your property isn't acceptable. I would call the letting agency tomorrow and say you're not happy about it and they can't block your property without asking you. Rude and entitled behaviour.

You're fine OP

MN is a perfectly acceptable outlet!! Rage all you want. I would be too. And is also be annoyed that tennant didn't let me know but be unsure how much notice or info she had (enough to pre move her bins though!). Your ire is rightly reserved for the managing agents / LL whomever arranged the building work without making sure they informed you to ask to put scaffolding up in your land and block your access to your back garden. Some people keep bikes and motor bikes stored in back gardens if don't have garages- so it could have caused significant problems.

We all know building work is important to maintain property but asking permission to erect scaffolding on a NdN land and a heads up with as much notice as possible is important too.

SeasonFinale · 17/08/2021 19:15

We had scaffolding put up on our land for work on our house. However when I got back they had attached part to the next door neighbour's wall!! I was horrified and told the builders off and went straight round to apologise to the neighbour who incidentally was okay about it (presumably because I was apologetic).

So please beaware that even the landlord may not be aware that the builders have done this and assumed it was being set up on their own land. Maybe ask the builder who said they had permission to set up in the way they have and you may find that they have done it of their own volition.

Keeva2017 · 17/08/2021 19:18

@Dangernouse5 thanks! Iv always considered mumsnet a safe place for pointless rage and ranting.

OP posts:
RincewindsHat · 17/08/2021 19:19

Maybe she also doesn't know anything and thinks the scaffolding is yours, so she's right to move her bins off her path? I think you need to talk to her.

LakieLady · 17/08/2021 19:28

Your rage is NBU, but it is misdirected!

I had similar when my neighbour was having her extension built - came home to find I couldn't get my car on my drive because the scaffolders had put their scaffolding all over it.

Neighbour was mortified (and bought me flowers by way of apology). She got on to her builder, who got on the scaffolders and told them to come and sort it, which they did the following day. The builder was really apologetic, and livid with the scaffolders. They were a firm he'd never used before, and he decided he'd never use them again.

Then, when they took it down at the end of the job, they dropped a scaffold board and clip onto the roof of my garage, it went straight through and damaged one of DP's motorbikes. We thought it was deliberate, because we'd complained.

The builder repaired all the damage and paid for the motorbike repairs.

Scaffolders are a nightmare imo.

lannistunut · 17/08/2021 19:32

Instead of ranting, just get it taken down. They can not put scaffolding on your land without your permission.

HalzTangz · 17/08/2021 19:34

@Keeva2017

It’s the landlord I’m angry at but tenant could have knocked on surely. Not to mention as dp was leaving she was moving her bins on to our path so ensure she had a clear path Hmm
No, the landlord should have made you aware, it's not down to tenants to get involved in any part of remedial works carried out by a landlord

LLs still have to make an agreement with the T for convenient times to do these repairs! So the T should have known they were coming.

If workpeople had turned up without notice at my home when I was a tenant I would have sent them packing unless it was an extreme emergency.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 19/08/2021 17:24

I would also be miffed that the tenant hadn't mentioned it but I suppose she might have assumed the LL had had the common courtesy to do so.

thanksforyourcommentrandomman · 19/08/2021 17:27

The neighbour obviously knew because she moved her bins, I would have moved them off your path firstly and then asked why she'd done that. But yes, definitely take it up with the rental agency, they cannot put scaffolding on your property without permission
