To think I'll never find a beachfront holiday let?

Trying to book a last minute couple of nights away, my main criteria is to find somewhere that you open the door and you are on the beach. All the booking websites are utterly useless at this! I don't want to be over the road, down the road or round the corner. I just want to be on the beach.

Several in Cornwall, if you can pay upwards of £3,000 per week.

TheSloaneRanger · 17/08/2021 09:34

Which area are you looking at?

Hopeisallineed · 17/08/2021 09:35

I would think they are hard to come by in the best of times.

heldinadream · 17/08/2021 09:38

You do know that if you build next to a beach like that it's a flood risk, almost anywhere?

They really are very rare in this country.

Cam2020 · 17/08/2021 09:39

Probably a bit late for that!

Tolcarne beach hotel worth a try.

MoiraNotRuby · 17/08/2021 09:39

@TheSloaneRanger

Which area are you looking at?
Anywhere within reasonable distance of a train station. The setting matters more than the location. Think maybe I need to look at campsites instead.

Laska2Meryls · 17/08/2021 09:42

Mudeford beach hut hire ? But youll be lucky I reckon ..

TheSloaneRanger · 17/08/2021 09:42

Whitstable, Seasalter Dungeness, Deal, Sandwich any good? Loads of camp sites on Romney Mars apparently. They maybe worth a look
Family visited them

kungfupannda · 17/08/2021 09:44

That kind of property will be vanishingly rare. We've just stayed in a cottage in a seaside village that was about as close to the beach as you can get - we still had to cross a small road. There is one cottage right on the dunes on that stretch of coastland but it’s essentially a glorified beach hut.

VanillaAndOrange · 17/08/2021 09:46

I think there are some in Teignmouth.

kwiksavenofrillsusername · 17/08/2021 09:52

UK holidays are pretty booked up this year, so the places on the beach are probably all snapped up. You might get lucky and find a really expensive one.

We stayed in an Airbnb in Kingsdown in Kent which was right on a pebbly beach, although there was a tiny road for car access blocking the way. Oh and a yurt in a Haven camp that was in a field basically next to the beach, but obviously you have to enjoy camping for that one. Actually, camping is probably the closest we’ve been to being right on the sand.

Rainbowshine · 17/08/2021 09:57

You’re not going to be able to combine the station vicinity with the beach unless you go to Barmouth or something. Most stations are well away from the beach due to flood and erosion. You need to consider which is more important. And then find somewhere available! Good luck with it, I think you will find it a challenge

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 17/08/2021 09:58

Go camping!!

Winemewhynot · 17/08/2021 10:00

Good luck with that last minute Larry! It’s highly unlikely you’ll find a beachfront property, in august, when abroad travel is limited. People book those kind of properties months/years in advance!

MinnieMountain · 17/08/2021 10:11

You might find a caravan site right by the sea.

ShingleBeach · 17/08/2021 10:11

Camber has some.

They’ll be booked for this year though, surely.

How do you feel about opening on to a pedestrian prom and then the beach? As in Bexhill.

SE13Mummy · 17/08/2021 10:14

We stay in a beachfront rental most years but book about two years in advance. You may find you get lucky with a last minute cancellation advertised on a Facebook group.

Lockheart · 17/08/2021 10:17

Think whatever you like, but if you want a last minute beach holiday in August in a prime location in a pandemic when its difficult to travel abroad then you may find yourself needing to adjust your expectations somewhat.

Mantlemoose · 17/08/2021 10:17

ignore last post - quite a few on airbnb

Sure, except the one you posted isnt actually free til November (your link shows me a week in January 2022), which isn't exactly useful for a last minute break in August, or even September....
Doomscrolling · 17/08/2021 10:29

Not a chance, mate. They’re like hen’s teeth in a normal August. In a year when most people are staying in the U.K., you might as well ask for a unicorn to pull your train.

Day trips?

dancealittleclosertome · 17/08/2021 10:30

Have a look in Nefyn and Morfa Nefyn - north Wales.

DragonMamma · 17/08/2021 10:30

No chance unless you have unlimited funds and even then I think you’d struggle!
