To think I'll never find a beachfront holiday let?

Trying to book a last minute couple of nights away, my main criteria is to find somewhere that you open the door and you are on the beach. All the booking websites are utterly useless at this! I don't want to be over the road, down the road or round the corner. I just want to be on the beach.

We were looking at a place in Galloway, south west Scotland. Literally step out of the door onto the beach. We were looking for next summer; looking for bookings to start this Saturday, as you want a last minute deal, I can't see if so presume it's booked. We decided against it as there were nicer cottages inland, you were paying a premium for the location, and I suspected you'd have sand being blown in if the weather is more "Scottish" than usual, which would be a nuisance. I can check my internet history at home tonight if you're interested in staying there when it is available, but I couldn't find anything last minute. with a push on UK based holidays, they're likely to have been snapped up.

The properties on booking.com are filling up for next year!

Get train to Newcastle then metro to south shields

Try Lounge Lettings in Tywyn. They rent out a few houses which are across a path from the beach, and the station is only a few minutes walk.

drspouse · 17/08/2021 11:25

You might find a caravan site right by the sea.

There are quite a lot of stations on the West Cumbria line that are right by the sea, and some of them have caravan sites near them.

This is totally unrealistic at the last minute in the UK. Rather than focussing on having the perfect break, can I suggest you would do better to find a holiday which ticks most of your boxes rather than all of them.

edin16 · 17/08/2021 12:57

I've just joined a Facebook group called holiday cottages uk and managed to get a last minute break. There's always people searching and getting lots of replies on it.

MoiraNotRuby · 18/08/2021 08:19

Thanks for all the suggestions, much appreciated. Tywyn looks lovely!!!

How far are you prepared to travel? This is along the coast from me, Sea Otter Cottage has bank holiday weekend free for a few days (our bank holiday is the beginning of August, the schools are back now) and you could just about do it on public transport, although you're probably better off getting a taxi from Wick station rather than waiting for a bus.

Lots in Camber sands. Search kent holiday lets, also search Pett Level and Winchelsea beach.

If yiy are very kuckt you might get a cancellation, therw must be people cancelling due to covid...

Also search Woolaconbe as there are lots of holiday lets and b and bs on the promenade - especially to the north towards Combesgate beach

uggmum · 18/08/2021 09:00

Worth looking at the Isle of Wight. There are plenty of lovely places where you can walk out straight onto the beach.

Availability may be an issue at short notice

TyneView · 18/08/2021 10:04

Hotel right on the beach (you could say 'in' the beach) with some availability. www.marsdengrotto.com.

Peppapigforlife · 18/08/2021 10:06

Why don't you use the map function on air BnB so you can see which properties are available all over the country on the edge of the water? Sandgate has air bnbs on the beach but don't know their availability.

lljkk · 18/08/2021 10:09

dates, OP? Is this next week or what, must it be school holidays?

TyneView · 18/08/2021 10:09

And another...nicer outside than in...but you wanted location.

agreeing with others that you are by unlikely to find anything now for er now.
I know quite a few such properties for next year but wondering -
Areas ?
Budget ?
Sand or pebble ?
Windy surfy type beach or small cove type beach ?
Safe for small children type beach ?
Remote difficult access no facilities or more built up?
Train access - will you be without a car ?
Without an idea it’s hard to help. I also thought of whitstable/Herne bay or eg scilly isles and quite a few places in Cornwall and east anglia (Suffolk in partic) etc etc.
If I were you I’d sort my budget and then do a google maps search in prêferred areas then onto websites linked.

Look into renting a static caravan, park Dean has lots of statics overlooking the sea, also look at other campsites by the beach
