to think it wrong for the parent of very young children to disappear into the (celebrity) jungle for three weeks

ie Cerys Matthews (kids are four and two)
in the same year as getting divorced as well, which must have already been unsettling for her children

Go on, who'll be the first to tell me off for being judgemental?

OP posts:
soopermum1 · 30/11/2007 09:32

think it was kerry katona who missed her daughter's first birthday, but that doesn't surprise me. can see the point if person has to earn a living, sometimes its's worth 3 weeks of separation for the cash that will come in for doing it and for the jobs afterwards. however, kerry katona was married to not-that'skint westlifer bryan mcfadden at the time. maybe she saw the writing on the wall and reckoned she needed to get some cash behind her quick before he dumped her for a younger, slimmer, better singer

wannaBe · 30/11/2007 09:38

who the hell are any of them?

And why the hell do people actually watch it?

mumblechum · 30/11/2007 09:40

My thoughts exactly wannabe - watched the trailer last night and didn't recognise a single one.

JinglyJangly · 30/11/2007 09:59

Kerry Katona went in the jungle and i think her kids were younger than Cerys matthews kids.

Funnily enough, I was thinking the same thing last night my kids are 5 and 2 and I personally couldn't leave them for that length of time.

ScottishMummy · 30/11/2007 10:00

clearly she has weighed up her priorities/must do list and being surrounded by other vapid attention seeking washed up me-me-me wannabes was more important than her 2 children

LOL i doubt very much whether cerys is the primary care giver to the 2 wee ones. i expect nanny is.

dont watch but am aware through newspapaers

Camillathechicken · 30/11/2007 10:04

i am a bit torn

what about mums / dads who are in the armed forces and are away weeks at a time, or work on oil rigs, or work away for whatever reason..

the slebs do it for the same reason, to earn money, progress in their chosen careers

just because one is deemed a less worthy option than the other, it does not take away from the fact that some children to have their parents away .. i am sure that not all children whose parents work away are trauamtised and damaged for ever

allgonebellyup · 30/11/2007 10:06

Do think you are being harsh to Cerys.

ScottishMummy · 30/11/2007 10:29

oh didiums im sure cerys will get over it

nailpolish · 30/11/2007 10:35

im agree its her job

plenty of people do it. you have no choice if its your job. bills have to be paid.

wannaBe · 30/11/2007 10:38

but it's not really a job is it?

otherwise we could all go into the jungle for three-week stints and earn £££ for doing sod all.

Why don't they get real jobs?

Camillathechicken · 30/11/2007 10:41

so being in the public eye is not a 'job'?she is a pop singer, no? that is her job.. and via that she has been invited on a sleb show..

if there was no sleb industry , there would be no magazines, lot less newspapers , books, tv shows, it would have a big impact on the economy

ScottishMummy · 30/11/2007 10:41

this is someone who was handsomely renumerated for her music career we are not talking an ordinary parent taking a career move away to make some deserved dosh or advance career or AF who need to go on postings - cerys gets huge financial gain and guess what we are all talking about her, but were not before this - gains notoriety too

what about katie hopkins then?

her children are.. 5 and 3 I think? She rose to "celebrity" (and I use the term loosely) by being a bitch on a gameshow. Before that she did have a successful career doing something which was not in the public eye.

does earning money by being a loser on a gameshow count as being a celebrity then?

ScottishMummy · 30/11/2007 10:49

katie who^? schleb celeb i suppose is any no mark with a publicist and some column inches, o and public discussing 'em
so by that criteria too many of them

LoveAngelGabriel · 30/11/2007 10:51

I don't have a problem with a parent leaving their child in good care for a while for whatever reason. I do think these shows are generally a very sad sight to behold. Complete nobodies, has beens and never weres doing...what, precisely? Pathetic.

3Ddonut · 30/11/2007 10:56

Just to change track slightly, I heard Cerys on the radio this morning, she had just come out of the jungle and said 'I thought that he'd be here (that guy she was 'friendly' with)' then a bit more about him, then 'ah well the kids are here' as an afterthought, I was shocked at that.

Aside from the fact this telly show is complete crap, surely she is getting paid handsomely for it, and will presumable up her earning power in the future.

She is effectively going away as part of her job. And as a singer I expect going away touring etc is part of the deal and this jungle escapade is comparable to that.

And yes, she has just got divorced. So she needs to earn money to support herself and her children.

I don't understand the problem - it's only three weeks, it's not as if her children are going to turn into gibbering wrecks for crying out loud.

LoveAngelGabriel · 30/11/2007 11:10

Cerys isn't a nobody, she's a has been. How do I know? Because she is appearing on this show!

(I liked Catatonia and some of her solo stuff, but to appear on this show she is really scraping the bottom of the barrel, sorry)

kerala · 30/11/2007 11:12

I was abit surprised to see Myleene in India - I thought she had literally just had a baby or are my dates confused?

Suppose I am quite impressed as I counted a trip to the park as a major achievement during the first six weeks or so.

My eldest went off to France with her grandparents for 3 weeks when she was 3.5 at her request. She didn't miss us at all and was "too busy" to speak to us when they rang home

chopchopbusybusy · 30/11/2007 12:16

I don't see why this is any more wrong than any other job which involves working away from home. She will probably make a fair bit of money from this (and the publicity will no doubt improve her record sales). This will enable her to be able to sit on her arse without working for a while. She may or may not choose to spend this time with her children.

For the record I can't understand why anyone watches this pile of poo anyway.
