Why does Mumsnet frequently pull threads off?

It seems very micro management. I was reading a really informative thread today and it has been pulled.

For a site that allows swearing, it is super sensitive. They will also say they are checking things in the background but I have never seen a thread put back on.

It’s just petty.

Shtisel was also recommended. I too wanted to read the rest of the thread.
@EddyF one of us is probably the Netflix documentary. There is a film called unorthodox which is also really interesting.
Thank you very much.

They also allow an awful lot of thinly veiled bullying, nastiness and unjustified pile ons of posters which they don't seem to care about. But of course they're all about support and advice Smile

EddyF · 15/08/2021 22:56

Thank you so much. This is the one I also wanted.

As a PP said, I am also glad MN have standards and is properly monitored. One of the reasons I like the site

Theunamedcat · 15/08/2021 23:29

Maybe we should have a troll bridge section where the interesting fantasy threads are put rather than taking them down

NuzzleandScratch · 15/08/2021 23:45

What happened to the one about the lady hospitalised with Covid? Was that made up? I was quite worried about her!

joystir59 · 15/08/2021 23:48

I also am interested as to why that thread about the woman in hospital with covid was pulled although I'd started to have doubts about it being genuine.

PlayDohDots · 15/08/2021 23:55

You can read deleted threads by going to your browser history and copying the url, which now shows up as the deletion message. Then use Google Chrome and type cache: into the address bar followed by pasting the url. There should be no spaces so it should read "cache:www.musnet.com/Talk/..."

You can manually change the page number by typing in the desired number at the end of the url.

You may not be able to access the final few comments or pages if it was a controversial thread that moved very quickly before it could get cached. However it's usually quite effective to get an idea of why a thread ended up deleted or to retrieve and links/info you forgot to save.

I’ve woken up to three deleted threads this morning 🙄

Smileyaxolotl1 · 18/08/2021 08:36

They pull threads which go against their leftie woke sensibilities. Happens all the time.

Other forums are available, if you don't like it.

... and?
Saucery · 18/08/2021 08:50

That thread was repeatedly drawn back to questions about how Jewish communities afford their lifestyle. Not just one disingenuous post, but several. It made a mockery of the genuine posters with insight and links. There was even one comment that blatantly stated “I’m not interested in the religion as such…..”. No, I bet you’re not, steering the tread constantly to But HOW do they afford to live in those big houses????

And there reasons were?

It's usually pretty clear why a thread has been deleted and, for the most part, I agree with their reasons.

afghanistanwhatnow · 18/08/2021 09:07

OP I agree it's pathetic that people can't have debate and listen to other peoples opinions and an Internet forum without having so much removed.

I started a thread weeks ago about racism and it was IMO a well needed thread and it got torn down

I quite like that idea. I'm not very good at spotting trolls so it would helpful training ground for the guileless.
WomanStanleyWoman · 18/08/2021 09:17

... and?

And it’s fucking irritating. As are the kind of people who like to play Head Girl.

WomanStanleyWoman · 18/08/2021 09:17

Spurious.

This for sure. Some threads - despite being reported, sometimes even by the OP - are allowed to continue even though they’re totally unacceptable and affecting the OP. Then other threads get pulled for silly reasons. I guess it’s up to whoever is modding that day though.
ChipButties · 18/08/2021 10:05

And I love some of the troll threads, they’re interesting! 😂

DynamoKev · 18/08/2021 10:16

I was really enjoying the Jewish thread - it's such a shame the baby gets thrown out with bathwater due to a few dodgy posts.
MNHQ could remove the offending posts but I suppose it's just easier to nuke the whole thread.

DynamoKev · 18/08/2021 10:18

Those posts could have been removed without destroying the whole thing
AlfonsoTheMango · 18/08/2021 10:24

I agree. The thread was interesting and informative.

knittingaddict · 18/08/2021 10:26

I meant their. Sorry.
