Dog ate a kilo of neighbours food

Sitting here mortified, our dog has gone into the back garden and next door, through their open door, must have jumped up on the counter and has eaten a huge, round tupperware box full of their dinner 🙈😵it was spaghetti and meat (no garlic or onions she said) so our dog should be okay.
Dp has been round and apologised profusely and offered to pay for the food/pick up some nice Italian food from a restaurant nearby, they won’t accept.
They’re sort of laughing but mainly just gobsmacked, suffice to say that our dog can’t go in the garden again until they’ve gone (their house is a holiday home)
What would you do? It was a kilo of food!

@GCAcademic How did you guess 🤣Lab cross, she’s so greedy, it’s only ever been our problem with her, she’s terrible with food,I’ve been to the vets a few times as she will eat anything and everything when out for walks in the woods etc, it’s terrible

If your dog has eaten their dinner, I would offer to coke them dinner this evening or pay for a takeaway

OverByYer · 15/08/2021 17:36

Oh sorry just saw DP offered to get them dinner from a restaurant

OverByYer · 15/08/2021 17:36

Is quite funny though

AlexaShutUp · 15/08/2021 17:36

@Justilou1

I think the flowers, wine and chocs are great - and a card from the dog both apologizing and praising her cooking. (They’re obviously a little amused by the hairy little thief.)
Love the idea of the card praising her cooking! Grin

I'm not a doggie person, have never owned or wanted one. But I would find it quite funny if this happened to me. I'd probably be a bit gobsmacked initially about the fact that my dinner had suddenly vanished, but then I'd see the funny side and probably feel a bit bad for the mortified dog owners!

GCAcademic · 15/08/2021 17:37

I knew it had to be a lab! Although, our now deceased (not due to this incident) working cocker once got up onto the worktop (using a chair that an idiot family member had conveniently left there) and ate two thirds of a massive shepherds pie that would have served at least six people. It was way more than a kilo of food and had plenty of onions and garlic in it. Her stomach was like a balloon and she could hardly move, but she was fine eventually, though the next couple of days, as the shepherds pie worked its way through her system was not pleasant, and I have never been able to face eating that meal again thanks to the, erm, outputs.

@StrangeToSee It’s right next door, so she’s asked around and done it so bloody quickly! Yes, Dp is very annoyed but I’m quietly seeing the funny side too 😬I will get them nice gifts tomorrow and basically won’t be allowed into the back garden now whilst they’re here ( can go in once they leave as obviously their house will be all locked up)

@Justilou1 The apology/food praising card is a brilliant idea, def doing that

Bottle of wine and that's the end of it . Just make sure it doesn't happen again.
When I was a kid our cat ran out of next doors house with a lamb chop in her mouth Blush

Recipe book.

Summerisoverrated · 15/08/2021 17:40

@GCAcademic Oh god, glad she was ok, I am worried about it, surely it must have had some onion and garlic in, she lives for cooking-unless she hasn’t added her sauce yet 🤷🏻‍♀️🙏

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😬rofl that’s brightened my day!
But seriously, what you plan to do is lovely (and definitely dog proof your garden!)

Summerisoverrated · 15/08/2021 17:41

I’m just thinking about it and if I’d spend time cooking Spag Bol or lasagna, I’d be quite pissed off 🙈they’ve taken it well

Hilarious. Probably did them a favour as pasta and meat sounds vile. One of my friends had a dalmatian puppy once and whilst standing in the street chatting, she saw it out it's head in her friend's shopping bags and snarf two pasties. She didn't say anything apparently.

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 15/08/2021 17:42

I've owned (and still have!) dogs that would do this given half a chance. I would think it was hilarious and not be at all cross. I'd only be worried in case the dog was ill. I might be a bit fed up if I was really busy and needed my tea before/after work or something but would realise it was an accident and have a take away or cheese on toast. I'd really appreciate your offer.

I do love dogs though 😍

We offered Uber eats to deliver a pizza but they don’t know what it is and she turned her nose up 🙈older, retired couple-proper home cooked food type lady

Years ago a friend went into her kitchen to find her cat sat in the middle of the floor devouring a roast chicken. She wasn’t cooking chicken. They looked out of the window and could see a long grease mark up their path where the cat had dragged the chicken but had no idea which house it was from!

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 15/08/2021 17:45

Gift for the neighbours and making sure the dog isn't downwind of me for the rest of the evening.

1forAll74 · 15/08/2021 17:45

I would laugh about such a thing, and hope the neighbours had a sense of humour too.. I rather like those YOU TUBE videos. where a dog sidles up to a table, before people are sitting down, and it sneaks a nice rump steak off a plate.

Oogachuckachopsy · 15/08/2021 17:45

Sounds like your dog did them a favour. Spaghetti with no garlic must be incredibly bleak.

ShowOfHands · 15/08/2021 17:50

I'd only buy wine if you know they drink. Ditto chocolates, do they eat them?

People buy a bottle of wine as a gesture all the time and it makes me uncomfortable as a house of teetotallers. Don't eat much chocolate either. I know it's a nice gesture but to some people it's useless. I've got a Merlot, a Shiraz and a Pinot Grigio in the cupboard. I barely know what they are and have no clue what to do with them. They're from well meaning neighbours for various reasons. I don't know what to DO with them. I offered a couple of them to friends but they "don't drink that". It's too easy to assume alcohol tastes.

Of course it's a Labrador they're awful for stealing ours had sons birthday cake when he was six. Cleared four plates of food MIL had laid out for her bridge friends.

There's no stopping them. She had the Xmas tree over three times looking for candy canes
