Crazy bravery? To picks spiders up in my hand to throw them out of door/ window?

Dangermouse5 · 14/08/2021 23:07

My DCs think I am mad. Or super tough.

I stopped doing this for a few years when there was a spate of black widow 🕷 spiders riding into U.K. on bananas. But have started again. I grab them in my hand and throw them out nearest window or door. So much easier than the ' trap into a plastic cup with cardboard underneath'
method. When you actually might then drop them and have to spend at least half an hour trying to catch the flighty things or lie that you killed them (rarely kill a spider, I can't do it) .

Not beetles. Beetles are scary. Shock... But spiders ... meh.
Not big spiders mind. Just spiders without beetle sized bodies.

My cousin threatens to burn her house down (possibly regularly) when she finds a spider. Grin

What crazy bravery parental (or other) do you MNers do?

@Dangermouse5 DH and both DC witnessed the incident and the massiveness of said bee. Thankfully the neighbours did not. Grin The basdtard flew through the house and out a front window. So no care packages are required. Although, there is a spider in the bathroom if you want to attend and deal with it.

ScrambedSmeg

I like your DD

I hope Bernard is ok and enjoying her fantastic cliff (wall) face designer home ! I bet DD is feeding her random flies she has found. She sounds a kind soul.

@Henrytheehoover

I can deal with spider in your bathroom, might take me a while to drive there ...

But am so glad said bee bumbled out the window!! I bet your neighbours don't believe you in size of bee. Have you pre- warned them that Giant Bee is mulling around possibly in their garden waiting down his moment and Google satellite is watching him?

I have to shout out to stoical MNers EBearhug JadeLancs and AnOrdinaryMum and several other PPs

Brave indeed

That invisible level of bravery that no one else sees. But tonight we see you!!! SmileSmile

It's probably a queen and nesting in one of their lofts as we speak.

Shudder.

I pick out all the food bits in the kitchen plug hole when DP decides that scraping food into the bin first isn’t for him.

I just scrape it out with my bare hands. All those little onions and carrots, some form of meat piece too.

justfuckoffthelottayer · 15/08/2021 01:21

I do the same and my potplantz keep getting huge spider webs all over the place unfortunately spider webs are not really wanted in my garden so I break them with my bare hands pick up the spiders with my hands and put them over the fence And there has been a spate of widow spiders in my garden not scared Wink

Dangermouse5 · 15/08/2021 01:24

Ps @Iamthewombat

I don't wear sleeves , it's ok, you don't need to worry as it's a smooth move.

Thanks for the Badebas tip earlier, I shall now use coconut shampoo as a pretend way to my Teenagers (that ahem I may want to get into shower more often) if they shower in it, as it smells a bit like conkers, spiders will not come near^^ them...

Or maybe.., I ought really buy that stuff? Top tip for the spiderphobes though 😍🥰 Love the random useful stuff I learn in MN! "TIL..."

Every two hours i am currently hand feeding (and helping to to poo) a baby rat we found in the road on a bike ride. I'm vegan, and a complete wanker,I don't know why I'm doing it. Leaving it just felt wrong..

Hats off to you op. I could never handle a spider mind.

That is amazing kindness for a baby rat you found. I hope s/he makes it through the night and the next few days (weeks?) til she/he can survive on their own. You sound very kind hearted.

I did lol reading the funny line in your post- as you have the down to pat a self deprecative thing going - but you do know we respect vegans ! Or any choice ppl make.

But GetinthereLewis

I can't ask how you help a baby rat poo. I should not ask. I can guess a little. Must kid ask. Don't need to know the answer. Mustn't ask. Damn, I'm asking . But don't tell me fgs!!!

Clearly I meant must not ask in middle paragraph
Not must kid ask

(Jeepers! Never asking kids anything like that. ... Lordy Lordy... tho' clearly they would simply Google it and not even bat an eyelid "yeah reasonable question from mum"...)

Yes spiders are freaky. Me and DP both run around like little girls when dealing with them. It's a team effort.

CorianderBee · 15/08/2021 02:16

Although tbf I'd be fine with a beetle 🤷‍♀️ or a moth, birds are fine, snakes I'm good with too, flies I'm a ninja at killing. But spiders and cockroaches naaaah.

GetInThereLewis · 15/08/2021 02:18

I sort of rub its tummy/under its tail area with a cotton wool bud! I apologise to anyone reading this over breakfast.

CorianderBee · 15/08/2021 02:18

Also my sister wasn't scared of spiders... until she woke up in a tent in rural Tanzania to a clicking sound. Turned on a lamp. Tarantula on her pillow about 2in from her face. Now she's worse than me 😂

Dangermouse5 · 15/08/2021 02:31

CorinaderBee

Loving the image of you and DP as a team working together to slide n' hide away from spiders!

And totes impressed at the rest.

Given you are probs NZ , Aus or any of the other beautiful southern hemisphere nations as you are up late in UK time and mentioning oh so casually SNAKES ....!!! GrinShockGrin

I easily concede we don't generally have scary poisonous spiders in U.K. You are required to run away from proper scary dangerous spiders anywhere else and is probably a good idea to ! Smile

Ps. Thankyou for keeping me company
It's not been an easy night, bc like most British people, we love a distraction! 🎶 When the going gets tough, 🎵 the tough get joking 🎶 SmileWink
