Hen Party

It's a friend from works hen party tomorrow and we're all travelling and staying in an apartment a few hours away (14 of us who all work together) and one of the girls who is going has been at work today and complaining of not feeling well, basically covid symptoms, she hasn't gone for a PCR test but has said she's done a lateral flow and is negative. Another girl has already said she's not going because of it as when she had covid all her laterals were negative and she has the same symptoms. Just feel bad if I say I'm not going because she's waited so long because of the lockdowns and it's very last minute! What do I do?!

I did a PCR last Sunday evening. Booked, went there and completed in less than 30 mins. Results texted in less than 12 hours. She needs to do one.

She's been told by the girls she was working with to do one this morning because the results would've been back in time but now she's left it too late as we leave at 8am

Has anyone suggested that the unwell person not go so the rest feel comfortable going?

Aquamarine1029 · 14/08/2021 02:24

My daughter tested negative twice and has now tested positive with a PCR. I wouldn't be going.

avamiah · 14/08/2021 02:26

She needs to do the at home self test ( in the white and blue box)
It gives a result in less than 15 mins .

They are spot on.

cariadlet · 14/08/2021 02:36

@avamiah The home testing ones in the blue and white boxes are lateral flow tests. They're not as reliable as the PCR ones.

Saoirse82 · 14/08/2021 02:49

The lateral flows are a dead loss.

avamiah · 14/08/2021 03:02

@cariadlet,
That’s what my daughter,s school told us to use and I’ve been using them to as my mum is 84 and lives with me.

We did initially go to the “walk in” place as there are lots of them as we live in London and we were both negative, that’s when they gave us the home kits.

lunar1 · 14/08/2021 03:13

She can't go then, it would be extremely unfair on everyone else. She should have got a PCR.

BeenThruMoreThanALilBit · 14/08/2021 03:42

Don’t go, take the bride out later separately for dinner

They're not very reliable. My daughter had a positive PCR but the at home test was negative.
Letthelightoflove · 14/08/2021 06:10

I wouldn’t go OP - it’s tough on the bride but that’s not your doing.
What did you decide to do?

Rumplestrumpet · 14/08/2021 06:10

Colleague with symptoms had choice of a PCR test and chose not to do one. She needs to stay home.

Someone needs to tell her this - is there a maid of honour in the group? I'd say she's best placed for the unenviable task!

Ticketchancer · 14/08/2021 06:19

Someone needs to tell her she shouldn’t go

IloveJudgeJudy · 14/08/2021 06:21

DS1 tested negative with a few lateral flows then positive with a PCR.

Dontjudgeme101 · 14/08/2021 06:42

Are you going op?

hellywelly3 · 14/08/2021 06:51

As a household that’s currently suffering from covid after double jab there’s no way I’d go. It has completely wiped us all out except youngest child.

sheusesmagazines · 14/08/2021 06:53

This could take out your whole workplace for over 2 weeks!!! She needs to not go!!!
I was on holiday whilst our whole team was exposed to Covid during a work social event and was left manning 2 sites by myself! Nightmare

girlmom21 · 14/08/2021 07:08

Your friend is a selfish arse. I wouldn't go.

Ticketchancer · 14/08/2021 07:12

The bride needs to tell her that she shouldn’t go with covid symptoms, she could have taken a pcr to deem herself fit and she didn’t.

Happy36 · 14/08/2021 07:12

The person with symptoms obviously can't go.

cariadlet · 14/08/2021 07:13

@ avamiah I've also got some of the kits at home (dp and I have both been given them by our workplaces). We did use them when we were self - isolating after being pinged by the app but didn't assume that our negative results were 100% accurate.

If a lateral flow test comes up positive then you can be pretty confident that you have covid. Unfortunately, they do also produce a fair number of false negatives.

Mumski45 · 14/08/2021 07:16

She needs to be told she shouldn't go. Does the bride know? Is the wedding imminent as she could cause the whole group including bride to have to isolate for 10 days. Hopefully the wedding is more than 10 days away.

Loloball · 14/08/2021 07:17

They really aren’t spot on from my experience. Personally I would say she needs to go and have a pcr test done.
CupoTeap · 14/08/2021 07:47

How close is the wedding? I'd be speaking to the bride!
