Hi all 2nd thread as the last one was filling up fast.

I can't help but wonder if that's what a lot of the TRA starting shouting so loudly about - "You're not taking any notice of us! Look at me. LOOK AT ME!". But MW has taken it so much further, MW wants us punished.

Many TRAs do. I dread to think what they would have been like in the 17th century witch-hunts, or the Inquisition or similar.

Plus ca change.

Charles Dickens and the Brontes were taking the mickey out of the fallen women/its all for your own good/ workhouse relief will be given grudgingly to the evil if they repent misogynistic men about 200 years ago. Mr Murdstone and Mr Brocklehurst being two examples where what they say in the books could be posted into a twitter thread and look very much in place.

It's depressing as it makes clear, the underlying attitudes towards women never go away, they just at times bubble under the surface until they find the current socially acceptable outlet.

@Orgasmagorical

This is such an important facet to acknowledge in all of this. Most people don't actually care if someone is gender non conforming. I don't care what someone wants to be called or how they want to dress. It's not actually that interesting.

I can't help but wonder if that's what a lot of the TRA starting shouting so loudly about - "You're not taking any notice of us! Look at me. LOOK AT ME!". But MW has taken it so much further, MW wants us punished. Or is there a teeny tiny touch of sexual sadism disorder in the mix.

Yes, agreed. Especially after reading that story about MW attending a party, where all was going fine people getting on well. Then suddenly out of nowhere MW demands to know whether the people attending believe them to be a woman or not?! And everyone else was made to feel extremely uncomfortable so that MW could reassure themselves.

How narcissistic is that? They needed to ensure that everyone attending stopped what they were doing and validated MW's view of themselves. What kind of a person does that?

Artichokeleaves · 15/08/2021 18:39

I'm not sure MW created that situation for personal reassurance. It would seem from the description that it was more a confident act of control. People were forced in front of the crowd to swear fealty or face the social consequences. Exceptionally rude, self centred, grandiose and domineering.

I'd have put down my glass and discovered an urgent need to wash my goldfish's hair.

Peppapigforlife · 15/08/2021 18:47

What a toxic mess. The crazy part is I was abused by a transperson when I showed up at a women's shelter. They were the most abusive person in there and made other people's lives a nightmare. İt was a really horrible place for everyone. We were sharing rooms with all kinds of trauma and there was a lot of aggresiveness. The transperson got their own room and special treatment and still kept shouting about how 'poorly' they were being treated. The staff shut down the computer room during the women's only session because the trans person got upset that I asked them to stop shouting about their boyfriend whilst I was trying to work and improve my life prospects. So yeah of course women have it so easy turning up at a shelter and being welcomed with loving arms. 😂

Orgasmagorical · 15/08/2021 19:02

I'm sorry you experienced that, Peppapig Flowers. That strengthens my opinion that it's all about the attention some trans people are so desperate for.

As I think a PP has already said, if MW was really all for transpeople's rights, surely MW would be calling for separate spaces for transpeople, not making a fuss about what female RCC users want or should have a right to. Why is MW bothered?

I'd have put down my glass and discovered an urgent need to wash my goldfish's hair.

Place marking because I tried to follow the link from the old thread and it didn't bring me here.

Will now catch up reading.

Separate spaces aren't enough. Only a zero sum game in which women lose single sex spaces, even at their most traumatised and vulnerable, are enough.

The least worrying possible explanation is that MW and all those like MW prioritise the validation of their feminine identities in all places, without exception, even more than the immediate needs of raped women with female bodies.

The worst possible explanation is sinister and terrifying.

herewegogc · 15/08/2021 19:39

'The worst possible explanation is sinister and terrifying.' Yes and the concentrated effort to dismantle safeguarding of women and girls puts me in mind of P.I.E back in the 70s. Sorry about the wiki link. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PaedophileInformationn_Exchange. I can't see any other end game.

You're right, it was domineering and attempt to assert control, which is even more sinister.

This person should be nowhere near vulnerable women.

AtlasNeverShrugged · 16/08/2021 08:53

What can we, ordinary women, do to help change this situation? Sad

Just joined the Greens. Am off if he doesn't get elected though. Join here
join.greenparty.org.uk
by 27 Aug to Vote for the next Leader of the Green Party.

REALITY CHECK: SHAHRAR ALI ENTERS GREEN PARTY LEADERSHIP BY-ELECTION
“We need a reality check and political course correction – for the sake of the planet, for the sake of human rights and for the sake of how we do politics.”
• Campaigning on a pledge to prioritise climate and ecological emergency
• Pledge to champion mature debate in politics and reach out to politically homeless women & ex-Labour
• Seeking support of Green Party members to become first BME leader of a UK Parliamentary party
• Shahrar received 24% of first preference votes in Leadership contest in 2020

Climate Reality Check
“I’ve been political for as long as I can remember. As a child, when I’ve asked my parents why people in faraway lands fought with one another it must have been out of incredulity that a planet, which bore such riches, could be cause for any kind of disharmony. Why didn’t people just get on? Though older and wiser about widespread inequality, this question still bugs me today – whether in awe of the mechanics of our planetary ecosystem or fascinated by human nature and motivation.

“I’m standing through necessity. We are the last generation able to save the planet from ourselves. Despite decades of knowing that we were living unsustainably, we carry on trying to have our cake and eat it – with a return to post-Covid short-haul flights and overconsumption. Millennia of technological advancement and unabated pursuit of desires have led to our standing on the edge of an abyss – collectively responsible for countless species extinctions, ecological devastation and now the prospect of universal death.

“After my active involvement for nearly two decades, I don’t think we have achieved enough. Yes, we’ve enjoyed record local election results – but one MP and influence in just a handful councils is snail’s pace compared to the political transformation we require. With environmental consciousness and extreme weather calamities at an all-time high, we should be polling double-digit figures.

Debating Reality Check
“When I joined, in 2002, Green Party conference felt like a university of ideas – where we could debate one another in good faith and still indulge in a round of drinks and laugh together. Today, we have become fractious and risk losing our sense of collective purpose (and humour).

“This conflict is evident in discussion of provision of services for transgender people and those who feel impacted by changes to services provided on same-sex lines, especially women. We must return to a culture of open debate, where the taking of offence is not used as a means to prevent those who do wish to debate from doing so.

“Party unity will not come from wishfully brushing problems under the carpet, or sitting on the fence while bullies continue their lies and intimidation, but from tackling challenges head on – and having those difficult conversations.

“You need a leader not afraid to question, and to actively take a stand against, the abuse directed upon women – many of whom have been driven to resign from parties and others of whom are resisting from within. I will not stand by as a novelist receives rape and death threats for publishing a thought piece. I understand that a rape victim has the right to choose to be examined by a clinician of her sex as a matter of basic human dignity.

“I will defend and champion all the protected characteristics enshrined in the Equality Act 2010. This includes the sex-based rights of women and girls, some 52% of the population; a population we can see being persecuted in Afghanistan today.

“We must welcome women back to our party, many of whom are feeling politically homeless. No campaign for mass social and political transformation has ever succeeded without them. There will be no human rights for all if we do not succeed in averting universal death from the climate crisis we face.

“We need a reality check and political course correction – for the sake of the planet, for the sake of human rights and for the sake of how we do politics.”
