Christ on a bike. Teenagers and towels. I love my children dearly but for the fact they leave towels on the floor. I have so much on my plate I'm trying not to transfer to them and rant at them... but god its fucking infuriating isn't it.

One of the many many annoying things teens do 🤣 grit my teeth most days!

Mybalconyiscracking · 13/08/2021 07:47

Mine have both got grade 7 GCSEs in physics, but still can’t grasp the concept of turning off a light switch..

DonLewis · 13/08/2021 07:50

I bought some lovely new hand towels a few weeks ago. My husband said, quick as a flash, they'll look great on the bathroom floor.

Deduct the cost of extra electricity from their allowance - won't take long before they get the idea......
HunkyPunk · 13/08/2021 08:00

Well, most of the time mine are able to remember the association between towels and the towel rail, but they seem to think that stuffed in a bundle behind it is the optimum position. Why?

1099 · 13/08/2021 08:05

You're lucky it's just towels, DS seems to think the floor is an acceptable storage location for most clothing (and towels).

OrangeBananaFish · 13/08/2021 08:13

My family can't seem to understand that laundry goes INSIDE the basket, not placed on top. OK so sometimes it is too full to fit anything else inside, but a lot of the time there is plenty of room.

LemonRoses · 13/08/2021 08:15

Give them responsibility for their own towels. Each has a coloured hanging ribbon on their towels. If they are left on floor rather than hung up, the teenager gets a wet towel next time. If they don’t put them in the laundry they have dirty towels. They learn.

A terrible idea as is would cost less than £10 a YEAR to leave a modern lightbulb on for 12 hours a day…they might think it’s worth the money not to ever get bagged about it!

PaterPower · 13/08/2021 08:25

Not just that they live on the floor - in my household’s case it’s also the apparently inalienable belief that each towel can only be used once.

(and they still act surprised / annoyed that we’ve run out of towels… because the “used” towels are piled in a heap in the bedrooms).

They have the responsibility, the individual towels, the consequence of soggy wet towel. Makes no difference in the slightest to the teenage brain process.

Mine also did well in physics, wonder if they could add this to the curriculum and save future parents from this!!!

It’s my pet hate; why do they remember to put on all their make up etc but not hang up a towel?!

GoodnightGrandma · 13/08/2021 08:48

My DC and DH screw the towel up and stuff it on the rail. Just can’t straighten it 😡😡😡

GoodnightGrandma · 13/08/2021 08:49

DH leaves the light on in the downstairs toilet, drives me absolutely mad.
And why does he need the light on in the daytime anyway ? To find it I suppose 🤣

BigButtons · 13/08/2021 08:50

Mine hang wet towels on the top floor banister rail. I suppose this is an improvement on the floor BUT it drives me crazy that I am the only one who returns them to the bathroom when dry.

Manzanilla55 · 13/08/2021 08:52

Mine has always out his towel on the bedroom door peg in his room.

Twiceover · 13/08/2021 09:01

DD2 always hangs up her towel. DD1 one never does. And then if she has the first shower she takes DD2's nicely hung up dry towel and uses it leaving her with the scrumpled up, damp one. Makes poor DD2 furious.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 13/08/2021 09:01

Told my daughter yesterday if she doesn't start turning her bedroom light off when she isn't in the room l will be deducting pocket money. Aarrggh when l turn into my dad??
But yes op it is very fucking annoying that you have to tell them every single day to do the same bloody thing!!!

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 13/08/2021 09:03

DH apparently has a very able scientific brain. You should see how he hangs laundry. He's banned.

GrandDuchessRomanov · 13/08/2021 09:04

I'm struggling with very issue at the moment only my offender is not a teen!

We have our 28 year old Nephew currently living with us and despite the fact that he managed to get a very good law degree and has a great job is utterly incapable of hanging a towel correctly.

It gives me the rage every time!

MedusasBadHairDay · 13/08/2021 09:06

My family like to bundle the towels up on top of the towel rail, just balanced precariously until of course the whole thing topples down onto the floor and then it's noones fault they are on the floor as they just fell there on their own Hmm
Ponoka7 · 13/08/2021 09:06

They don't do these things because it isn't important enough to them. I was on a prepayment meter, there was a danger of it running out. So to keep the router/WIFI on, my teens were super careful with electricity.
@Twiceover, can't DD1 have her towel in her room? When teens suffer the consequences, then they do what is needed.

pinkflask · 13/08/2021 09:07

@Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin - let’s hope she can’t use Google or she might work out the actual cost of leaving a light on and decide it’s well worth it! energylightbulbs.co.uk/energy-calculator

Ponoka7 · 13/08/2021 09:08

Just to add, having a dog who could chew what was left around, or a cat that would wee on stuff on the floor, also made my teens very tidy. So they are capable.

flameycakes · 13/08/2021 09:10

Mine cannot seem to grasp putting things back from where they got them. They will get the cordial out of cupboard, make a drink and not put it away. Drives me barmy.
