Parking thread with diagram

Bit of background. New build houses. We moved in about 6 weeks after the neighbours. Our house is has driveway parking for 2 cars, theirs only has one space. We only have one car and only use the extra space for visitors.
We get on ok with the neighbours, not overly friendly but say hi, take in each other’s parcels etc if needed.
When we first moved in their visitors would block our drive whether we were on it or not. DH is very calm and amenable and he didn’t mind knocking on their door daily to ask to be let out. Meanwhile I decided we could get round this by parking sticking out on to the pavement for a few days to stop them fitting over our drive iyswim? DH agreed to do this to appease me haha.
This seemed to work and they stopped parking over the drive even when we went back to parking on it normally.
For the last week they’ve been parking over our empty drive space as in the diagram. It means when we have visitors they have to park elsewhere (no parking spaces anywhere near by apart from driveways or blocking your own cars in). If our visitor parks over our other driveway space it blocks the junction for anyone coming on to or out of the street.
How can I sort this without speaking to them directly? There’s quite a few of them there at all times and they are quite loud so I don’t want to approach this on my own and DH doesn’t think they’re being unreasonable.
I think they should be blocking in their own car with their own visitors because that’s just the done thing isn’t it?
Am I being unreasonable? Do I just need to calm down and be more DH?

@bluecitygirl

Maybe park blocking their driveway and if they ask just say I thought that was how we are doing these days.
I love this and if I could drive I would do it. I doubt DH will be on board with this but he might agree to park blocking our own driveway.

I would park on the road in front of my house for an extended period of time.

They are very rude.

HalzTangz · 12/08/2021 18:35

Why don't you park your car where the empty space is for the visitor, that will force their visitor to either block the house they are visiting in or block the junction.

Personally I would just e a adult and speak with the neighbours, tell them you want the driveway keeping clear and could their visitors bloc them in.
Just because they are loud doesn't mean they aren't approachable. Them moving their cars each time your DH has asked indicates they are approachable

HalzTangz · 12/08/2021 18:40

Actually I would park where there visitors have parked and leave drive empty for few days, they will get the hint

Summersun2020 · 12/08/2021 18:44

Sorry but you and your husband sound absolutely bloody pathetic. Just knock and tell them to stop blocking your fucking drive!! Stop being a wet lettuce…no wonder they are taking the piss!
@Butterflymosaic I miss that thread(s)
Funnily enough I actually saw a RL ranger earlier and immediately thought of those threads!

Best entertainment over the rainy week we had!

PixieLaLa · 12/08/2021 18:52

Yeah that’s very twaty of your neighbours! If you don’t want to speak to them and DH won’t then just get him to park on the right all the time from now problem solved Smile

Exactly! I'm not sure why the OP was so keen on a solution which involved not talking to them.

If you ask and they still do.It then knock every. Single. Time they block your drive whether you need to move the car or not

DH is on the verge of this tonight. Neighbour back over the drive as he got back. They moved again but he had to go knock again. If I catch them outside I will have a word. I’m not sure if the neighbours are cf’s or if it’s just the visitors or maybe both? I’ve spoken to the people who’ll be visiting me tomorrow and asked them to park over my drive and if they can’t because someone is already on it, then to go knock next door and ask them to move.

You need a horse. Put a shout on FB and park a horse there for the day. Option on goats (more tricksy and escapey).

There is no reasoning with them. Time to get weird.

Here purely to see how this turns out and to commend OPs diagram! Star

NoSquirrels · 12/08/2021 22:06

You’re trying to sort out a problem without talking to them - it’s pointless.

Knock on. Be polite but firm. ‘Hello, neighbours. We’re having a few problems with your visitors blocking our drive. Could you have a word and let them all know to park over your drive instead, please? We bought a house with an extra parking space because my Mum/Sis/Friend/Etc is disabled so it’s really important that they know they can park when they visit us. Thanks so much!’

Rumplestrumpet · 12/08/2021 22:27

I agree with Nosquirrels - you need to speak to them. You don't need to be rude or aggressive, but he polite and firm - it's the only way to tackle this like adults.

Only the Brits play passive aggressive games like this with their neighbours 😆

(I'm a Brit btw!)

coodawoodashooda · 12/08/2021 22:37

Im irritated for you op.

coodawoodashooda · 13/08/2021 22:03

What happened?

LookItsMeAgain · 15/08/2021 17:54

How has a weekend of parking been for you @RubyReigns? Hopefully stress free and easy access Grin

Halloaten · 15/08/2021 18:12

I'd knock on every single time whether dh was home or a visitor coming or not. I'd probably get somebody with a trashed car to park on the drive and let their handbrake off to roll right into them.

It’s generally easier on a weekend because I’m hardly home and neighbours don’t have many, if any, visitors. It’s also been better since he’s been parked in the other space. They’ve only blocked him in one more time and he went and ever so politely, asked that visitors don’t block our drive. He didn’t wait for a reply he just walked back to the car and got in and waited until they moved. That was only yesterday afternoon though so I won’t celebrate just yet, let’s see how weekdays go.
