Would you go to a&e for this .. I’m having severe back and low down stomach and groin pain right now. Been going on for months Docters unsure what it is, no kidney infection had a kidney scan. Blood tests fine. I do have an inflamed cervix so have been referred to colposcopy but no appointment yet. I can hardly eat as I’m so bloated and full up with pressure. Back and groin pain is worse with urination. Right now it feels worse than ever and I’m crying and don’t know what to do.

Hi op, sorry you are struggling. A&E only advised in cases that are life threatening due to overloaded service and 6 hour wait.

You could try pharmacy, NHS 111 (call or online) or walk in centre - I would go for latter tbh, much shorter wait than A&E.

tiredanddangerous · 09/08/2021 15:52

If you can't manage the pain yes go to a&e.

Mumsnet generally thinks no one should go to a&e unless their leg is hanging off or they've stopped breathing but that's bullshit.

joystir59 · 09/08/2021 15:55

Yes go to a&e, please.

PlanDeRaccordement · 09/08/2021 15:55

Yes I’d go to A&E. The inflamed cervix could be it, or it could be another problem adding to it. At the very least they can address your pain levels.

rottd · 09/08/2021 15:56

phone 111 but if it's too painful then go to a&e for some pain relief at least.

If I followed MNs advice re a&e visits Id likely be dead & a relative definitely would.

Cocolapew · 09/08/2021 15:56

Yes I would Flowers

FlorenceNightshade · 09/08/2021 15:57

If the pain is so severe you can’t do anything else then a&e is appropriate! Not sure about rest of uk/world but in Scotland you can ring 111 24/7 now so if you can bear it do that but if not a&e.

Iknowtheanswer · 09/08/2021 15:57

I'd phone 111 first.

I was sent to A&E by a GP on Friday, and waiting 4 and a half hours to be seen. Pretty horrid experience.

YelloYelloYello · 09/08/2021 15:57

Have you heard of endometriosis?

A&E will be able to help you with pain management. So if the pain is terrible and you’ve tried to get an emergency GP appointment then yes you could take yourself to A&E.

lannistunut · 09/08/2021 15:59

I would try to get an urgent appointment first, but we have a decent out of hours doctors so if I call 111 I would often get an appointment there.

SueSaid · 09/08/2021 16:04

Op no one can tell you if you're constipated or have something serious, we aren't psychic. The correct action is to visit an urgent treatment centre, ring your own practice or ring 111 for a gp appointment .

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 09/08/2021 16:08

Between 2 DC-one broken bone and the other sent by 111 I have spent 11 hours in A&E in last week.

I would not think it would be a nice place to be in pain.

I would call GP and try and get pain relief, call 111 and see if there is an urgent care appointment?

Even with an "appointment" and sent by 111 my DC waited over 5 hours.

clary · 09/08/2021 16:10

Well it's not MN advice as much as the advice of the NHS www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/urgent-and-emergency-care-services/when-to-go-to-ae/

Op you will have a very long wait - several hours - at A&E. Especially as you are not suffering from something life threatening by the sound of it.

Local walk in centre will be open now with maybe a 1hr wait. If they think you need to be at A&E they will refer you there. Is there one near you? Can you get someone to drive you?

Whaam · 09/08/2021 16:10

I would go to A&E. Better safe than sorry.

endofthelinefinally · 09/08/2021 16:13

I would do 111 first. They can book an appointment for you wherever they think best.

MyFavouriteIsland · 09/08/2021 16:14

Yes, go to A&E, that's what it's there for.

alexdgr8 · 09/08/2021 16:18

OP please do something,
ring 111 at least, or go A & E.
hope you get some help soon.
let us know how you get on, when you can.
best wishes.

rottd · 09/08/2021 16:20

@clary the link you posted simply says life threatening emergencies & severe pain could be symptom of something life threatening.

clary · 09/08/2021 16:30

Yes it could, but the GP doesn't think so. We on MN are not medically qualified (well, I am not) and I was trying to encourage the op to go where she would be seen quickly by a medical professional. I mean lots if symptoms could be signs if something life threatening but my link lists the main ones best dealt with in A&E.

I wouldn't go to A&E atm unless I couldn't breathe, had chest pains or a v serious injury.

rottd · 09/08/2021 16:45

That's you though, I think anyone in severe pain should go to a&e. I'm not medically trained but I couldn't possibly say whether the OPs conditioning was life threatening or not. Crying with pain shouldn't be ignored.

I've been hospitalised with bad abdominal pain & was seen immediately as it was appendicitis. It didn't hurt enough to make me cry. If you can't breathe or had a serious injury you likely need to call 999!

clary · 09/08/2021 17:48

My point is that if I were in severe pain, I would rather wait for an hour at a walk-in centre staffed by expert nurses than wait for eight hours (that's the current average wait at my local A&E) in A&E which IME are not the nicest places. Just trying to help the OP (and maybe the NHS). I certainly did not say her pain should be ignored - but A&E is not the only option for emergency treatment, as some seem to think.

HealthKick2021 · 09/08/2021 17:54

Yes! Please go. My husband was in so much pain in his upper left abdomen. Turned out to be a severe infection in his gallbladder.

Xx

rottd · 09/08/2021 17:55

Of course it isn't the only option but what options there are is dependent on your location, I don't have one near me for example & the one that used to exist was at the hospital.
I've been to a&e a few times & never waited particularly long as you get triaged pretty quickly & that's when they know who's top of bottom of the list.

cheesecrackerz · 09/08/2021 18:25

Please go. With those symptoms you need to be seen ASAP as some red flag symptoms especially with an inflamed cervix. It has escalated from the time you were last seen by the GP, and to be in such severe pain is an emergency

Let us know how you get on Flowers

clary · 09/08/2021 19:16

Ok @rottd I did ask the op if there is one near her. Obviously if not then A&E may be better tho perhaps call NHS 111 first. I agree op, let us know how you are. Hoping you have gone somewhere by now.
