CBeebies, is it just me …

Or is it becoming horribly dumbed down and turning into Milkshake?
The presenters just shriek and dance around at every opportunity with no sense of rapport with their audience imho. Most of the programmes are now animation with no interaction with the children watching.
I yearn for Sid, Pui and Chris, please come back.
I do like Katy and Rebecca though.

@Helendee

I loved Numberjacks, I can cook, Show me, Show me, Storymakers, Boogie Beebies, so many.
Numberjacks! My DS is 7 and spotted this on YouTube at about 4 when I was looking for some kids number videos for him. He loved it so much. The Numbertaker is genuinely frightening!

The DC suddenly dropped CBeebies when they started finding more on Netflix they liked. They like Archibald’s Next Big Thing, True and the Rainbow Kingdom, and DS likes Pokémon now. DD is 4 and enjoys a lot on Disney Plus.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 09/08/2021 22:35

I think the animated shows are better, but I always preferred animated shows as a kid too. Bluey, Octonauts, Hey Duggy, Bitz and Bob, alphablocks and number blocks are probably my 4 year olds favs, he always turns off when it gets the furchester hotel which I actually quite like lol.

He is also a bit peppa pig and paw patrol fan but we watch those on Netflix. I'm resisting entertainment with advertisements in for as long as possible!

Sandalsintherain · 09/08/2021 22:37

Molly and Mack is great... My DS likes to go around declaring "the big hub is open!"... in a lovely wee Scottish accent. We're from South London Grin

Bluey is horrific. The parents are permissive past the point of sanity, the kids are all awful, and my daughter now calls our toilet the 'dunny'

Do you reckon? I don't find the parents permissive- you see them enforce boundaries a few times. Mum refuses to let Bluey stay up, even when Bluey says she's not tired and can't sleep, Dad refuses to play games with Bluey until she resolves an argument with Bingo, Dad doesn't let the kids play in the sun without suncream on, they expect the kids to clean up their playroom and Mum makes Bingo mop up the muddy footprints she leaves on the floor. There are quite a few examples. They use natural consequences rather than enforcing a punishment-style system, but that's a legitimate parenting style.

I've also never seen them refer to the toilet as a dunny Confused

You’ve not watched the right episodes Grin I think the one at the cinema has an exchange about not touching the dunny brush and there’s a recurring theme that mum doesn’t like the girls to say dunny. But Chloe’s not allowed to say naughty, she has to say cheeky…
MaggieFS · 09/08/2021 22:38

Love the Bitz and Bob tune.

I haven't actually sat through Bluey yet. Sounds like I might have to.

Queuing4Fergs · 09/08/2021 22:39

Sid and Andy's number raps were some of the best BBC viewing I've ever seen. It might have been the extreme sleep deprivation that characterised 2010 - 2013 but I used to cry with laughter and when they came on, it would literally make my day

Oh my goodness I've enjoyed this thread but this in particular has resurrected a memory I had clearly buried deeply. Along with many of the classics already mentioned my eldest who is nearly fourteen dearly loved the bedtime hour every night when it was "In the Night Garden", 64 Zoo Lane and Charlie and Lola. The best bit was the song at the end though when it was sung by Alex and Kerry. "The time has come to say goodnight, to say sleep tight til the morning light"......I feel a weird mix of nostalgia and like I have ptsd reading this thread.
Buttons294749 · 09/08/2021 22:48

Oh god fuck Bluey! Hate that show so much haha
We enjoy
Number/alpha blocks
Mr tumble in his various incarnations.
JOJO and gran gran
Octonaughts
I also enjoy singing the theme tune to Sarah and duck Blush

CirqueDeMorgue · 09/08/2021 22:49

Is Mr Tumble still about?

Marmalady75 · 09/08/2021 22:53

I can’t believe there are only a couple of mentions for Octonauts. I dread playing the animal game now with ds because instead of him picking something like a cow or sheep for me to guess it’s more like a coconut crab, loggerhead sea turtle or golden coral 🤣

MaggieFS · 09/08/2021 22:55

Mr Tumble/Justin's House/101 other programmes is the modern day Peter Pan who never grows up.

Or something more macabre, someone who never dies.

I could cope with once a day. Perhaps even twice, but he's on all the bloody time.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 09/08/2021 22:56

Oh I miss CBeebies now! My youngest does still watch it a bit but only selected things on iPlayer.

He loved / loves the Shakespeare productions and the pantos though!

It’s now mostly cbbc and in particular Odd Squad. I can’t get him onto Horrible histories which my Dd loved from 5 upwards - I’d happily watch those alone!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 09/08/2021 22:57

@Marmalady75 Octonauts is fantastic!

drpet49 · 09/08/2021 23:01

YABU- CBeebies is great. There are quite a few shows on with real life actors rather than animation.

ThirdElephant · 09/08/2021 23:02

There’s a ‘Dunny’ episode!

Right. I'll make a mental note to skip that one!

CakeandGo · 09/08/2021 23:10

Ah Chris, Pui and the fluttering cunt.
Good times.

Bhappy12 · 09/08/2021 23:35

We don't have cbeebies on much (tend to watch on demand) but there's definitely more crappy low quality shows now than there used to be. I think there's also more choice, though?
Favourites in our house are Yaka Dee and Mr. Tumble. I personally find them both redicilously irritating, but my speech delayed toddler who's chosen BSL as their preferred language finds a lot of value in them. (I realised Mr. Tumble is makaton, but BSL, but most of it is close enough for my toddler who just seems happy to have something vaguely accessible as their deaf)

omgthepain · 09/08/2021 23:38

Can I just say I'm ok with it
Except

Topsy and Tim
That stupid music
The stupid storylines
The way they repeat everything like "that's when mummy said let's try again"

Bloody awful

Agreed, during that time period I had four kids under the age of six and CBeebies was a godsend! Sid and Andy's number raps were a particular highlight, we loved Show Me, Show Me (my eldest was MAD about the Groovy Mooves/Freeze section 😂), Numberjacks, Balamory, Fimbles (with Roly Mo), the Lunchtime song,

They are all far too cool/grown up now but I look back with massive fondness on our CBeebies days 😍
