Who is the biggest rock classic in this year?

We had the years of AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Guns N’ Roses etc. So who is the classic now?

I suggest Foo Fighters hold that status. DP argues it’s Coldplay. Who is right - and if not, who?

OP posts:
brokenbiscuitsx · 07/08/2021 08:03

Foo Fighters, Royal Blood and Nothing but Thieves? They are the rock bands that stand out as having current albums out.

Queens of the Stone Age and Biffy Clyro?

On a slightly different tangent. DP and I were talking about the death of the guitar solo recently. I don’t think we’ll have the likes of Slash or Jimi Hendrix did a while. If I had any musical talent at all I’d bring back the guitar solo, there’s nothing like it Blush

brokenbiscuitsx · 07/08/2021 08:06

Ahh I see what your saying OP, perhaps I should’ve read your post properly (not always good to go on Mums et as soon as you d woken up! 🤣)

Foo Fighters then, has to be. They’re probably the biggest rock band currently who’ve been around for ages and are still releasing albums.

FrankButchersDickieBow · 07/08/2021 08:11

Coldplay a rock band 🤣🤣🤣

AttaGirrrrl · 07/08/2021 08:17

The Arctic Monkeys?!

I’m not sure they were ever top of anything, and I’m sorry to say it was much more than 7-9 years ago Grin 17 maybe?

I’d vote for The Killers as the biggest rock band at the moment.

PearlHart · 07/08/2021 08:42

I think @karalime is on the right lines with Bring Me the Horizon, Avenged Sevenfold, Gojira and Volbeat. I'd also suggest Alter Bridge, Trivium and Godsmack. The guitar solo is definitely not dead - Mark Tremonti's solos are blistering!

PearlHart · 07/08/2021 08:44

Foo Fighters, Coldplay and Metallica - ffs Hmm

FastFood · 07/08/2021 08:50

The Strokes ? The White Stripes ?

honeylulu · 07/08/2021 08:54

Coldplay is not rock! It's music for adults who still wet the bed.

golddustwomen · 07/08/2021 09:01

@honeylulu ha ! I couldn't have put it better myself Grin

greenbluewho · 07/08/2021 09:08

Coldplay offend me on every level. Fecking awful shite.

Rammstein!!

HavfrueDenizKisi · 07/08/2021 09:12

Sorry had to come into the thread to say:

Coldplay! Jesus wept.

I'd say Muse.

Demelza82 · 07/08/2021 09:13

Kings Of Leon?

PearlHart · 07/08/2021 09:21

I liked Coldplay when they first appeared. Can’t stand them now, so dull. Tepid. Beige.

I think they have to be very well known to be considered the ‘AC/DC’ of our times though.

I will check out the guitar solos, need more in my life! Smile

Good shout, Kings of Leon too. I generally think they’re classic if non Rock fans have heard of them.

VienneseWhirligig · 07/08/2021 09:39

Coldplay put on a great show but are definitely not rock, and are style over substance- their music is crap but their staging is epic.

I'd say Rammstein, My Chemical Romance, The Killers, Muse - but there isn't one era defining band I don't think.

Chikapu · 07/08/2021 09:39

Rolling at Coldplay.
Biffy Clyro for me.

Hippopotas · 07/08/2021 09:45

[quote RightYesButNo]The Hu. Now that’s a rock band. ”Wolf Totem” makes me feel like I did the first time I heard “Immigrant Song” by Led Zeppelin.

whatdoidonowffs · 07/08/2021 09:56

Iron maiden anyone ?

DeathMetalMum · 07/08/2021 09:56

Rammstein and Slipknot are more metal than rock.

Agree with Biffy Clyro, Killers and Kings of Leon. Also suggest Fall Out Boy, and Panic at the Disco latter not quite as mainstream but I do hear their songs often on regular radio stations (ones the kids like to listen to).

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 07/08/2021 09:56
