Do you get a “woosh” behind your eyes when tired?

I just assumed everyone did, but DP has never heard about it and I just googled and couldn’t find anything

Whenever I’m tired, I close my eyes and hear a loud “whoosh” that seems to come from behind my eyes. What is that?! Am I alone????

Yabu - No I don’t get woosh
Yanbu - yeh it’s normal!

I can't say I do or if I do I haven't noticed.

RubyFowler · 06/08/2021 21:28

Don't hear, but sometimes get a whooshy feeling.

MyNameForToday1980 · 06/08/2021 21:29

If I close my eyes tightly when I'm tired I get the whoosh in my ears.

user1471453601 · 06/08/2021 21:30

I get a kind of "boom" in my ears. More like blood pounding in my veins than an actual noise. Is it that kind of thing?

LadyLaSnack · 06/08/2021 21:31

Yes - I hadn't ever put words to this before but I just managed to do it on demand!

It's like a yawn behind the eyes.

verynearlygotme · 06/08/2021 21:34

I don't get a whoosh, for me sounds distort slightly and when I hear that, I know that I am really tired.

Shirleyphallus · 06/08/2021 21:35

No, but my feet get warm when I have a wee if I’m tired!

SomePig · 06/08/2021 21:36

Yes! I get the wooosh! OP you are not alone! Bloody hard thing to google - I too have tried- but hadn’t thought to call it a wooosh.

I get at other times too. Always with an orgasm. Sometimes when getting a head massage with one of those things that look like a spider with wire legs. And recently, oddly, I was stressed out about something and whenever it would pop into my head I would get a wooosh along with a horrid rush of adrenaline through my legs and toes. So not always associated with pleasure. I’d be interested to hear if anyone has it in those circumstances or any others.

Yep, that’s a good way to describe it!
chipshopElvis · 06/08/2021 21:38

I get a woosh in my ears when I close my eyes...

thesplashing · 06/08/2021 21:39

Weirdly got it on demand as reading this - I also get it if I'm having beauty treatments on or near my eyes.

isitjustlockdown · 06/08/2021 21:42

I get this, but I always describe it as a feeling of static, like an out of tune tv screen behind the eyes (but not affecting sight), sometimes going all of the way to the ears.

I have tried to google it many many times, but cannot find anything. Very strange sensation indeed.

PiddleOfPuppies · 06/08/2021 21:45

Ahh, yes. It's not a whoosh, it's a rumble between my eyes and my ears.

morningteaisthebest · 06/08/2021 21:49

Yes. Just made myself do it a few times.

I get this too!
Hawdyerwheesht · 06/08/2021 21:53

Google tensor tympani control

Dementedswan · 06/08/2021 21:54

No bit I have permanent tinnitus, when I'm tired I get a shooting pain in my head and chest which keeps me up longer 🙃

fan90 · 06/08/2021 21:59

Oh I just did and I can control it! It's a crackling noise for me but it's not behind my eyes, it's deep inside my ears.
puckingfixies · 06/08/2021 22:03

Is it accompanied by bright lights OP? I suffer from exploding head syndrome when tired (10% of people will experience it at least once), sounds worse than it is - it's completely harmless.

QueenPeary · 06/08/2021 22:08

Yes, when I’m tired and especially if I’ve been somewhere smoky. Close my eyes and get a noise just behind my eyes that’s like a booming or rumbling sound. I call it eye thunder :)

bleachblondemom · 06/08/2021 22:13

I don’t hear a whoosh but I see a whoosh

UnfinishedBunting · 06/08/2021 22:14

Yes, it's your tensor tympani muscle.

UnfinishedBunting · 06/08/2021 22:16

Apparently ~16% of people can voluntarily control this muscle - I can!

TimeForTeaAndG · 06/08/2021 22:17

When I'm really tired I "see" things moving really quickly in my peripheral vision.

I also experience exploding head syndrome (DH thinks I'm mental) and I sometimes get a whooshing in my ears as if my blood pressure suddenly changes even though I've not stood up/sat down.

Bodies are weird.

ZombieEthel · 06/08/2021 22:18

Not a whoosh but I often get a crackling sound.
