Neighbour drink driving?

Doggydoodah123 · 05/08/2021 18:09

Neighbour has a known alcohol problem. I know he's been drinking this afternoon and he's just driven off in the car. There's a good chance that he's over the limit. I've no idea where he's gone but aibu to phone police and report him? What would the police even do if theyve no idea where to find him? Part of me feels like I should mind my own business but then I worry for people he could potentially hurt by drink driving. He has a previous record for this too.

Ring the police, do you know his reg number, I wonder if they can locate the car through his name or address.

I made note of his reg number a few months ago just incase. I guess I'm just scared that they will know its me who's dobbed him in!

You don’t need his reg

You ring
You say you suspect drink driving
If you have reg you give
If you don’t - they will get from his address

That’s what you do

AtticusHoysAnus · 05/08/2021 18:16

Ring them definitely.

They'll put out an attention drawn to the vehicle, best if you have registration and make model, colour.

Fuck drink drivers, when they cause carnage it always seems to be the others involved that end up dead.

MadeForThis · 05/08/2021 18:19

Report it.

My cousin's neighbour was drink driving and when he drove home he missed his driveway completely and crashed into the back of her car.

HJ40 · 05/08/2021 18:19

Of course you ring. 999 before he possibly kills someone.

Marmitemarinaded · 05/08/2021 18:20

^ I guess I'm just scared that they will know its me who's dobbed him in!*

Unlikely
In any event, consider the bigger picture OP

Burnt0utMum · 05/08/2021 18:20

Yes report it before he hurts or kills someone

SillyBub · 05/08/2021 18:22

I don't know my grandad, who was a professional footballer, because he was killed by a drunk driver. My mum and her brothers grew up without a father and in poverty because of it. Just report it. Report it now and every single time.

MuddyStiletto · 05/08/2021 18:23

I couldn't give a fuck whether they knew it was me who reported them
If you even suspect he has then report him now

SillyBub · 05/08/2021 18:25

Sorry, my point about him being a professional footballer was related to the fact that my grandma, mum and uncles had a very comfortable life. A life that was instantly taken away and made exceptionally difficult emotionally and financially because of drink driving.

user16395699 · 05/08/2021 18:27

Of course it's your business. He's driving a car on public roads whilst drunk. That's everybody's business.

We all have a responsibility not to turn a blind eye to things like this.

littletinyboxes · 05/08/2021 18:27

If he's got a drink problem and is regularly driving I think you'll actually be doing him a favour by reporting him. It's only a matter of time before he causes an accident and potentially kills himself or someone else- better for everyone (including him) that he is caught and banned from driving before that happens.

SuperSange · 05/08/2021 18:33

Do you call 101 or 999 for someone you know habitually drink drives and has been banned for it before? I'm considering reporting someone but couldn't put a time or place on it.

girlmom21 · 05/08/2021 18:36

Definitely call the police. You might just save his life or, more importantly, someone else's.

StoneofDestiny · 05/08/2021 18:41

Ring 999 - he could kill somebody!

StoneofDestiny · 05/08/2021 18:43

Not sure why you'd hesitate - would you hesitate if you saw him setting off with a loaded gun? Same issue - he is equipped to kill, not equipped to drive.

Calmyertits · 05/08/2021 18:49

Call 999, if he gets spotted, hell get stopped and itll be treated like a routine stop and hell be none the wiser. If hes not spotted, intel or a marker usually goes on the vehicle.

Funnylittlefloozie · 05/08/2021 18:49

If he hit and killed a child, would you be worried? If yes, just make the call.

1forAll74 · 05/08/2021 19:03

Loads of drink and druggie drivers kill other people everyday, and kill themselves too. I read about them every day, and this is just in the county where I live.

Mangozesty · 05/08/2021 19:04

Why an earth are you asking on here? Call the police immediately and every time it happens.

Mangozesty · 05/08/2021 19:04

Absolutely!
newnortherner111 · 05/08/2021 19:09

I hope you've called the police by now. Do it every time without fail, indeed if its practical and no-one else drives the car, perhaps block him in next time.

tactum · 05/08/2021 19:28

I did this on my neighbour but in a more general context - I knew she was an alcoholic and regularly driving so rang 101. They were grateful for info and put her reg number on a 'ping' list so it would flash up if a patrol car passed her so they could observe and stop if necessary.

I also rang one one specific occasion when I knew she was driving drunk and where she was going and she was stopped. I also rang and reported her for theft when she stole alcohol from my house.

All was done with the intention of trying to get her help, and with the full endorsment of her husband who was at his wit's end. She's not alive anymore.....

Doggydoodah123 · 05/08/2021 19:31

Thank you, it's been reported. I hesitated because I don't know for sure that he's over the limit. I saw him bring alcohol in to the house and another family member saw him disposing of the bottles. Based on his history I have assumed he is probably over the limit, although I don't know for definite.
