have overtaken Britain in fully vaccinated percentages. For all the vitriol spouted here against them for months and months, you have to wonder about the press also, driving opinions and backing up Brexit. Well done lads.

OP posts:
pinkcircustop · 03/08/2021 12:41

What bullshit are you trying to peddle, OP? Confused

magicstar1 · 03/08/2021 12:43

@LemonFantaGin

Also Irish and not seen what your talking about, please could you link it?
Same here
SaskiaRembrandt · 03/08/2021 12:47

@FamishedAtAnAirport

Oh god. Is this going to be one of those threads where the op never backs up their claims with any actual evidence?
Yes, then disappears and tries to pretend it never happened.
CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/08/2021 12:48

@CuteOrangeElephant

It's funny isn't it. So much vitriol from English posters when the UK was ahead with the vaccinations. They called the EU vaccination programme a shitshow, lots of faux concern about the EU killing it's elderly citizens, the conviction that this was going to break up the EU.

Now several European countries have overtaken the UK not a peep.

Ah! Selective reading.

Vitriol against EU for slowing things down.

Not against European countries who were trying to get hold of vaccines.

Against specific politicians for their ill thought spouting of crap, all across the world, UK included.

A lot of speculation about who shot John with comparative data about the various vaccines, incomplete understanding of the science and a jolly good scary headline! All of which turned out to be bollocks and still the EU are chasing 'reparation'!

Funny that the UK has started to send its promised 100million doses of vaccine does abroad, 5 million in the next month. The US has started sending its promised 500million doses.

France sent the first batch - 100,000 doses of AZ - remember those stored unwanted doses of that ever so dangerous vaccine they had? They used some of it to inaugurate the G7 donation plan. Macron wants everyone to send 5% of their vaccines, despite many countries having already pledged far more, basically Macron has 500,000 in mind for an immediate response, UK 5million - an order of difference.

It's not as simple as some have ever wanted it to be. Politicking rarely is!

Actually nor is 'this country has vaccinated more than that country" It depends on what data you look at!

According to WHO as of yesterday

UK has 123.6 doses administered per 100 people.
Ireland 111
France 102
Spain and Portugal about 114
Canada 124

Russia 34
India 32
Much of Africa 0 - 2

What is there about those figures that makes anyone want to crow?

WhatsMyNameGonnaBeNow · 03/08/2021 12:49

Another poster checking in from ROI a little bit puzzled. I don’t see how our % vaccination rate is any reflection on the UK, why would it be?

Ok yes the British press and elements of Johnson’s government have been getting a bit carried away with their world leading, blitz spirit shite but that’s just par for the course. Surely taking Ireland’s vaccination rate and using it to criticise the UKs rate is just more of the same? Our population is a fraction of the UK, it’s hardly a shock that once the vaccinations got going we’d catch up or overtake in percentage terms.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/08/2021 12:50

Oh do sod off @WhatsMyNameGonnaBeNow

Stop being so bloody logical!

PicsInRed · 03/08/2021 12:50

Some people are absolutely frothing to see the UK fail aren't they, which must be such a frustrating and futile existence.

I'm Confused Ted.

SusannahSophia · 03/08/2021 12:57

Perhaps Ireland have been more successful vaccinating the harder to reach groups? Or have a smaller proportion of vaccine sceptics?

sashagabadon · 03/08/2021 13:05

I think Irish attitudes to the vaccine in terms of take up etc are very similar to the Brits. We generally trust the science.
We've definitely reached a bit of a wall here in the UK now with take up. It's a wall most countries are going to reach sooner or later.
We're also not (yet) vaccinating most under 18 year olds so other countries will catch up / overtake if their rules on this are different.
Personally I am happy we are not routinely vaccinating younger teens here. I am not going to vaccinate my son.
I would prefer to let other countries go ahead and then we can watch and see what the problems may or may not be.
If that means we get "overtaken" then I am happy with that!

Idontwantyourfreedom · 03/08/2021 13:06

What are you on about?

AryaStarkWolf · 03/08/2021 13:09

Irish here too and didn't notice any anti-Irish vitriol on this subject Hmm

romdowa · 03/08/2021 13:26

Is this honestly what occupies your mind? Get a grip 🙄 I'm mortified for you

gabsdot45 · 03/08/2021 13:53

I'm Irish and I hadn't heard this , but I'm delighted and proud to hear it. I was quite critical of our slow start to the vaccine program but we've really caught up well, particularly in the last month. Vaccines are on offer to 16+ and there were walk in centers open over the weekend which were very busy.

Clavinova · 03/08/2021 14:12

To be fair, it depends on whose chart you look at - the New York Times have placed the UK slightly ahead of Ireland in their daily vaccination tracker;

Seashor · 03/08/2021 14:17

X2boys I absolutely agree with you , people for some reason are very anti the English who are one of the kindest people on the planet and no I’m not English but take as I find.

RitaFires · 03/08/2021 14:18

I think the difference is that that is total doses and Ireland uses the one dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine which the UK doesn't so Ireland can have the same or more people fully vaccinated on less overall doses.

Notimeforaname · 03/08/2021 14:20

Yeah another poster from ROI here and must agree with the rest,I've heard nothing like what your op describes..

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/08/2021 14:23

@RitaFires you are probably right. That would account for the 1% difference in 'fully vaccinated' rates Smile

And Macron's stirring the pot!

Fifthtimelucky · 03/08/2021 14:27

I haven't seen any vitriol but I think it's not surprising that the UK is slipping down the league tables after our good start. Unlike lots of other countries we are not vaccinating under 18s. We are also still recommending at least 8 weeks between vaccinations, whereas I understand some countries are giving them closer together.

I suspect that with a very few exceptions the UK has vaccinated (at least once) all adults who want to be vaccinated. I know one of the exceptions. He has made two appointments, but both times had to cancel because he had to self isolate. He's hoping to be able to make his 3rd appointment next week.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 03/08/2021 14:31

What bullshit are you trying to peddle, OP?
Exactly this. Don't be trying to stir up shit. There has been no vitriol.

Bellend101 · 03/08/2021 14:33

How strange that a country with 4 million adults would have a quicker vaccination rate than four nations (it's the UK, not Britain FYI OP) with a combined adult population of almost 54 million 🤔

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/08/2021 14:36

See @Bellend101 you're doing it too!

Just fucking stop it. Logic is a heinous crime!

BrozTito · 03/08/2021 14:37

Im a remainer but the tears and tantrums about literally anything british or english since we left the EU has been quite the pathetic eye opener.
