Aibu to not know how I got herpes type 1?

I have been with my partner for 12 years. I tested positive for genital herpes type one but his blood tests is negative. I have only been with him in the past 12 yrs and it is definitely a new infection. I am just so confused as to how this is possible? He has cheated on me in the past but how is it possible I have it but he doesn't? I just feel so destroyed my world has been turned upside down. I haven't blamed him for it obviously nor has he said I've been unfaithful (which I most definitely haven't) but I just am still struggling with this almost 5 months later. I just don't know how to live with this. And I have done a lot of research and understand how common hsv1 is but I still can help but feel dirty and ashamed how do I get over this?

It’s very unlikely that a swab is a false positive, they say swabs are nearly 100 percent accurate which is why they use them over blood tests

Blood tests can be easily done online via any private company for anywhere from £70 , I did one myself out of curiosity many years after being diagnosed but the NHS have always told me they don’t do bloods as 1. So many people have HSV and show no symptoms and due to the impact on MH doctors say there’s no point in these ppl finding out basically and 2. They aren’t as accurate as swabs

Tbh I think as I said before it could be both your infections are new which is why they aren’t showing on the blood results as it takes 12 weeks

Even if your infections are dormant for years your blood results will still show antibodies so that cannot be the reason both bloods are negative

Another option could be at ops infection is old and has been dormant but that wouldn’t explain why her bloods are negative
