To take the empty pushchair shopping?

As a precursor to this rather mundane dilemma Wink I don't drive

Twice a week I drop DD at nursery for the afternoon, walk the mile home then walk another mile into town for food shopping. When I'm finished, I either get a taxi home or walk the mile, mostly up a steep hill, with the shopping. Taking the pushchair home is cutting into my valuable time to get anything done!

WIBU to just take the empty pushchair to town with me, fill it with shopping and push it home or will people think I've left my baby behind somewhere Blush I know I could order online but I find fresh stuff keeps going out of date too quickly

Of course you should. It seems like a sensible option for getting the shopping home.

Datingandnoideahowto · 02/08/2021 13:41

That sounds like a sensible plan.

sunlight81 · 02/08/2021 13:42

Hell yeah ... but put a dolly in it to really screw with peoples heads

Lifeonashoestring · 02/08/2021 13:44

I do this as the shop is on the way home from the nursery drop off. Hardly going to walk the whole way home, to walk back to the shop to then have to carry several shopping bags home. No ones ever said anything!

Absolutely take the empty pushchair! I took mine for a run when DD had a settle session at nursery 😂

Alternatively get a granny trolley and put DD in a carrier/sling?

DisgruntledPelican · 02/08/2021 13:49

I’ve done this before. Not as far to walk, but I’m lazy and it came in handy.

Our nursery has a buggy shed though so I leave it there most of the time. Not an option?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 02/08/2021 13:51

When our dachshund slipped a disc my mother used to take him shopping with her in the pushchair I had outgrown. (Well, he howled the whole time she was out, poor little animal, because he got frightened when he was on his own and couldn't walk.) She didn'arf get some funny looks, but it made perfect sense at the time, and it meant she didn't have to carry the shopping.

Skyeheather · 02/08/2021 13:52

This is what I'm planning to do when DS starts nursery next year. The pushchair is very handy for transporting the shopping! My eldest son's nursery used to let me leave the pushchair in reception, folded up and pushed under the seats so nobody tripped over it.

eightyfourandahalf · 02/08/2021 13:53

Why on earth wouldn't you.

Pushchairs are amazing for shopping and put all sort of stuff in them (baby included or not)

It's a sad day when you really can't justify taking it with you anymore and you need to stick to rucksacks.

Ideally one you've made yourself out of bog-roll tubes, tatty bits of cloth and screwed-up newspaper Grin
soapylaces · 02/08/2021 13:56

Sounds perfectly sensible to me. Do it!

BunnyBerries · 02/08/2021 14:00

Everyone who even notices an empty pushchair assumes the person had just dropped off their child at nursery etc. No one thinks another second about it. So don't waste your time, life is too short, go shopping, for a jog, whatever you like with it! Smile

Danikm151 · 02/08/2021 14:01

Leave the buggy at nursery

EarringsandLipstick · 02/08/2021 14:02

Is there not a buggy park at nursery?

There's nothing UR about your suggestion but I have to admit, I couldn't do it! That's because I'd worry too much about what people would think of me & feel mortified. Just couldn't.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 02/08/2021 14:03

Definitely. I used to do this after dropping my boys at nursery

iwannabelikeyouhoohoo · 02/08/2021 14:04

I always feel like a complete twat pushing an empty pram but I do it frequently because dd’s nursery is a long way from the house and I’m not walking all the way home only to retrace my steps again when I do my jobs for the day.

VioletVesper · 02/08/2021 14:04

Definitely do it! I really missed the pushchair once my son no longer needed it. It’s like a wheelbarrow you can shove all your stuff in Smile

emmathedilemma · 02/08/2021 14:09

Who cares what people think if it makes life easier for you??

NuffSaidSam · 02/08/2021 14:11

YABU to not have been doing this all along. It's such a practical, sensible solution to the problem.

Notebooksarefabulous · 02/08/2021 14:12

Will the nursery let you stash the folded buggy at the location? Thats what I used to do to save walking home with an empty pushchair - ours was by the nursery stage a very small one once folded.
Also.......... get a shopping trolley - a total life saver if you need to get shopping without a car (and no longer a pushchair basket to stash groceries in!)

honeylulu · 02/08/2021 14:15

Yes! I used to do this when I collected the Christmas turkey from the butcher in town. Walking home pushing my turkey "baby", lol!

1forAll74 · 02/08/2021 14:16

I would go to the garden centre with the pushchair, and fill it with plants,. and a bit of shopping if needs be.

ittakes2 · 02/08/2021 14:20

You could but are you not allowed to leave her pram at the nursery? At our nursery we could.

crazymicrowave123 · 02/08/2021 14:21

Will there be any opportunity for you to drive in the future?
