To do an LFT on my dog?

My dog is really sneezy and coughing a bit. I’ve seen somewhere that the can carry Covid.
Would an LFT work? Her nose is a bit runny, I could easily sample her.

I’ve got about 100 LFT in my house… I’d be tempted to be honest. One of my dogs would stick it up her own nose if a bit of chicken was on offer.

Tho it probably isn’t CV.

PerhapsCarriageGreen · 01/08/2021 23:04

Kennel cough has gone round my area like wild fire. Call your vet.

Peteycat · 01/08/2021 23:11

Haha Muttsnutts.

So... Im the deranged one. Here we have somebody threatening to test a dog to check whether it is carrying a human virus. The merry go round of fear and insanity continues.

WouldBeGood · 01/08/2021 23:12

@Snufflensneeze this is a joke, right?

Peteycat · 01/08/2021 23:16

Would Be Good... I really hope so.

I despair at the moment. Gotta go.. Just sneezed, booking myself in at the vets for a thorough check over. May have cat flu.

WouldBeGood · 01/08/2021 23:17

You can’t be too careful, @Peteycat!!

Mummyrowland · 01/08/2021 23:21

Lfts are for humans not pets! Don't be so ridiculous.

Houseofvelour · 01/08/2021 23:28

Literally just following because I'm intrigued

SucksToBeYouHun · 02/08/2021 00:01

The world has gone fucking mad, yeah please test him and let us know how you get on ...

Wheresmybiscuit3 · 02/08/2021 00:04

I’d just like to hear what you decided really. Did you?

AlwaysLatte · 02/08/2021 00:41

What will you do about entering the results on the NHS website, though? They won't have Mr Rover on their system.

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 02/08/2021 00:51

Offer her some hand sanitiser.

Mockolate · 02/08/2021 02:17

We don't have a dog
We do have a few unused tests lying about though (kids at school, brought home several kits a week) got through most of them but still got some left!
I'd be tempted to try just to see Grin
Although (and I appreciate I know naff all about dogs) but if they're the same tests we have, are they really going to sit and let you stick a test up its nose and down its throat?! )
Good luck lol

Snufflensneeze · 02/08/2021 08:00

Well I’m sorry to be a bore, you’ll all be pleased to know that no, I didn’t attempt to use my dogs snotty nose drip on an LFT and she’s already had the kennel cough snoofer vaccine up the nose anyway.

Although I was extremely tempted to see if there was a positive

She’s still got a runny nose and is sneezing now and again so i suspect a bit of hay fever or something is tickling her.

OP posts:
icedcoffees · 02/08/2021 08:04

Having the vaccine won't stop her getting kennel cough.

If she's coughing it's highly likely she has KC and needs vet treatment. It's everywhere at the moment and super contagious.

Demelza82 · 02/08/2021 08:27

The dog obsessive reach a whole new low

StrangeToSee · 02/08/2021 08:55

I’m not sure if it would work on her runny nose, but if she has it you probably do too? Have you done a LFT on yourself?

Didn’t some tigers test covid positive in a zoo recently?

coffeepleeease · 03/08/2021 00:00

Your dog needs a PCR. LFTs are for asymptomatic people dogs

OhGiveUp · 03/08/2021 00:08

My dog had KC a couple of months ago despite being vaccinated against it.
However, when we had the hot spell a couple of weeks back, she was coughing and sneezing like nobody's business.
A trip to the vet confirmed it was hay fever.
Antihistamines from Aldi sorted it. ( Recommended by the vet )
Since the cooler weather, she's stopped coughing and sneezing, so her antihistamines have stopped too.

Insane!
