I am slowly going out my mind. Tips for getting a 1 year old to sleep in a travel cot? How do I get wine delivered?

Forget all thoughts of normal bedtime.

Let them fall asleep on the bed, move into cot if that's doable. Otherwise, lights off, telly on with something quiet, ignore child.

DonLewis · 01/08/2021 19:28

I'd abandon it all. Get some wine and put a film on and watch together, snuggled up in bed together. It'll be a far nicer evening that way.

mumonthehill · 01/08/2021 19:28

We once put ds to sleep in the bath of a travelodge, we were desperate…..

Bollindger · 01/08/2021 19:29

Go out. Is there a shop in walking distance?

Babymamamama · 01/08/2021 19:30

Oh goodness I can super sympathise I had to sleep unplanned in a travelodge the other night. Don’t ask! At this point, put your baby in sling, go down to the bar, order your wine, have a wander and jiggle baby about a bit and try again with bedtime in an hour or so. Hope you’ve got earplugs I found travelodge pretty noisy (other guests Hmm). The travelodge i was at the only people at the bar were parents with their kids…everyone else I assume had escaped to a proper pub. Envy

Oh my god thank you (I am so bored!) Child thinks bed is basically a play park, even changing her nappy on it was like chasing a greased eel! No chance of falling asleep in the bed. Thankfully, she seems to be giving in... slowly. Slowly.

Mine never went to bed this early if we were away. We were up late and they’d eventually drop off.
Are you on your own? If not, send your oh to get wine.

Babymamamama · 01/08/2021 19:33

They don’t even have black out curtains! My DD was very critical of the decor/colour schemes and was absolutely flabbergasted when I told her it was a brand new hotel Confused

TigersandTeddybears · 01/08/2021 19:34

If it really doesn't work out, try driving to sleep or pushing the buggy to sleep. Bonus if you can plan your journey so you get some wine, crisps and chocolate en route.

Have you tried a bath? They can burn off a lot of energy in water.

Check out deliveroo for your area, some deliver groceries or takeaway which include booze. Personally I'd settle for a pizza and a tub of ice cream and a movie together.

LividLaVidaLoca · 01/08/2021 19:35

I had similar with mine last week.

Turns out the room was pretty baby-proof except for the phone, which I had to unplug.

We cosleep and DH wasn’t there, so I shoved pillows under the sheet as a roll barrier and he slept in with me (don’t do that with a young baby who might suffocate, mine’s a toddler).

purplesequins · 01/08/2021 19:38

it's still early. is there a playground?

a8mint · 01/08/2021 19:41

It was only 7.20 when you posted!!

MamaEs · 01/08/2021 19:43

Take her out for a walk in the pram until she drops off and get a glass of wine in a beer garden. Move her into the cot when you get back Smile

TabithaTiger · 01/08/2021 19:46

Oh god, I remember doing this with DS1 many years ago. The only thing that used to work for him was putting on some relaxing music and playing it on repeat. It seemed to have a meditative effect on him and he would eventually drop off.

GoldBar · 01/08/2021 19:47

Move the travel cot into the bathroom so she can't see the party happening in the bedroom (I.e. you not asleep). Turn off the lights.

Or...strap her into her buggy, recline and put Peppa Pig on your phone somewhere she can see it until she gives in and falls asleep. She must be tired.

Fwiw (although no good to you right now), this is why we never book hotel rooms unless we can get a suite with a separate bedroom. Airbnb/self-catering all the way Wink.

MySecretHistory · 01/08/2021 19:58

Deliveroo from a nearby co-op

FeloniusGru · 01/08/2021 20:07

I feel you! Just managed to get 3 year old DS to finally fall asleep in a Premier Inn… DH is now also snoring… Hmm

Toomuchspinning · 01/08/2021 20:09

Err, it’s not even 7.30 at time of posting; go out for a walk and find some wine! Detour to a park; don’t drink the wine in the park, that’s frowned on.

Foxhasbigsocks · 01/08/2021 20:09

Oh mine never ever slept in a travel cot! Fingers crossed for you op!

DingDongThongs · 01/08/2021 20:13

OP I'm sat here watching F1 highlights...it's making me feel sleepy... lol

RosaBaby2 · 01/08/2021 20:18

I'm in a Premier Inn with 3 year old and 13 year old, they're driving me up the wall, 3 year old is screaming and running around, me intervening makes it worse. Feeling awful for the other guests! Praying he sleeps soon Confused

Uber eats for wine. And earplugs.
