I am slowly going out my mind. Tips for getting a 1 year old to sleep in a travel cot? How do I get wine delivered?

I know it's early, but her bedtime is usually 6pm! She's still only 1 though, so taking her to a play park in the middle of reading is not a doer. and we've travelled a long way, so she's absolutely over tired and bloody shattered.

Travelodge is all we could afford lol

@RosaBaby2 we should start a support group!

When I had this predicament shushing and bottom patting worked (never have to do this at home thankfully!). But I agree with the others, go for a walk and get wine/ food then try again later. No point stressing - eventually they’ll pass out!

Apeirogon · 01/08/2021 20:26

Mine always hated travel cots! Good luck OP!

Adelais · 01/08/2021 20:26

I’m currently in a cheap premier inn with a 1 year old, about to put her in the cot… wish me luck. I’d probably try and leave it as late as possible though before putting them down.

Backlit kindle, turn all lights off, ignore baby completely and look forward to her being 10! 10 is great for sharing a hotel room Grin

enchantedspleen · 01/08/2021 20:36

Oh that'd be great! I'd love to go out but my OH has already conked out and she keeps looking over the cot, occasionally screaming DADA!
If I leave him now I'd feel like I'm abandoning him, especially after the crappy day we've had!

My takeaway from this though, does my 15 month old have too early a bedtime at 6pm! She sleeps great at home at this time but now I'm questioning myself, lol!

6pm is very early but if she’s not waking up too early for you then stuck to it - you’re getting a lovely long evening to yourselves!

Neither of mine would sleep in a room on hood at by themselves. The big one needs to be in the same room and the little one (age 3) bedshares with me. Whatever gets everyone the most sleep i say!

MrsMiddleMother · 01/08/2021 20:59

Everytime our baby (now 2.5) wouldn't sleep in a hotel we used to push him to sleep in his pushchair, whether in the room or go for a walk and it always worked x

Guys.
SHE'S ASLEEP.
HUSBAND IS ASLEEP.

I AM AWAKE. And stuck in this room. Now what?

We have a one year old too who has been tired for the last 2 hours but only fell asleep ten minutes ago. Honestly, we just let him crawl around and get his energy out...let him play till he drops! Least that way, he's happy and it's less stressful for everyone.

If we were to try force him, it'd end up with him screaming and us stressed.

Agree with pp, let little one fall asleep on bed / in your arms etc and transfer. I ended up sleeping on an Airbnb floor two weeks ago with our DS cause it wouldn't work any other way lol

Take your key card and find a bar!

SNEAK OUT FOR WINE
GoldBar · 01/08/2021 21:06

Go out. Pub, cinema, cafe? Husband can babysit. World's your oyster Wink.

LemonadeSunshine · 01/08/2021 21:16

Bottle of wine, bath (with candle if available) to help soften the utilitarian aspect until the wine kicks in

AfternoonToffee · 01/08/2021 21:21

I have stopped in Premier inns a lot since mine were small (family live away) we just learnt to accept they wouldn't sleep and they would have a late night and us an early one, especially if they had slept on a car journey.

Hope everyone sleeps soon.

squee123 · 01/08/2021 21:21

I'm jealous of your 15 month old having a normal bedtime of 6pm! My similarly aged DC's is more like 7.30/8. No hope before then

trevthecat · 01/08/2021 21:38

All 3 of mine settled themselves into a 6/6:30pm bedtime. Youngest is now nearly 4 and still in bed before 7pm. Do what works for you. Glad baby has finally given in and is sleeping!

RosaBaby2 · 01/08/2021 21:47

Hooray! My 3yo is asleep, now I can relax. Big one and I are watching a film, quietly haha
