I do it as soon as I wake up but DH thinks that's weird and will only brush after he's eaten.

Who is BU?

It's meant to be before breakfast according to my dentist as it protects your teeth from the food you are about to eat. If you brush afterwards your rubbing all the sugar etc into your unprotected teeth causing greater harm

After but I only have coffee for breakfast.

I do it in the shower, which is usually after breakfast for me.

@Lolwhat

Before!! I don’t want to be eating 8 hours worth of bacteria!!
Do you brush your teeth before dinner then as well?
Lockheart · 02/08/2021 07:51

@JohnnyLuLus

Before. I'm not walking around with nightime bacteria in my mouth and morning breath. Same for having a shower and getting dressed. I don't go downstairs until I'm clean.
Is there a difference between nighttime bacteria and daytime bacteria?

If home after breakfast
In hotel ..quick mouth refresh before breakfast then proper brush afterwards

Mrsmorton · 02/08/2021 07:56

You don't accumulate bacteria during the day in the same way. You produce more saliva, you eat and drink, and your tongue is more active meaning you naturally make less
Plaque which keeps the bacteria down.

All this fear about bacteria... I have bad news for you - your body is riddled with them. By and large, they're harmless and in some cases food for you.

Your mouth is always going to be full of bacteria no matter how much you brush. Your gut is teeming with them. Your skin is host to millions more. It's natural.

*good for you! Not food....

mamnotmum · 02/08/2021 08:19

After breakfast or my breakfast would taste gross!!

lubeybooby · 02/08/2021 08:24

before - you shouldn't brush directly after eating, really bad for teeth

plus I don't eat breakfast early.. I brush teeth soon as I get up then not hungry til about 2/3 hours later

Sorry to be a try hard but I clean my teeth before and afterwards. 😅
The after breakfast clean isn't straight afterwards and is more of a freshen up than the full clean.
