I do it as soon as I wake up but DH thinks that's weird and will only brush after he's eaten.

Who is BU?

i get up, pee then brush my teeth - couldnt contemplate eating or drinking anything with manking breath and taste in my mouth

HideousKinky · 01/08/2021 14:27

Before

HauteGirlSummer · 01/08/2021 14:44

I brush first thing as soon as I wake up. DH does the same as your dh and will only brush after his breakfast. I can't stand it lol
He says he doesn't want his breath smelling of breakfast when he gets to work and brushing after breakfast keeps it fresh 🙄

Theoldwoman · 01/08/2021 14:49

I'm with your DH.

Definitely after.

Why brush them twice? Makes no sense. We were always taught to brush after meals.

DoTheNextRightThing · 01/08/2021 14:50

After. I don’t see the point in doing it before breakfast - then my cereal will taste minty Confused

Corcra · 01/08/2021 14:53

Both

SchrodingersImmigrant · 01/08/2021 14:55

After. After the coffee etc. Nicw and fresh out of the door

clickychicky · 01/08/2021 14:56

About 30 mins after and never have orange juice as the taste is vile with toothpaste

DeflatedGinDrinker · 01/08/2021 15:20

I do it after to get cornflakes out my teeth but I'm fully aware from my dentist that it is wrong and I should do it before.

MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 01/08/2021 15:22

@pinkcircustop

After. I don’t want my breakfast to taste of toothpaste Confused
Exactly!
OhGiveUp · 01/08/2021 15:24

@Pedalpushers no, because while awake you're continually producing saliva which destroys a high percentage of the bacteria, while asleep you produce much less saliva which allows the bacteria to multiply.

lazylinguist · 01/08/2021 15:27

Before, as advised by dentists.

I think the point the ex-dentist upthread was making was that if you brush after eating, you are supposed to leave it a while (because of the enamel thing). So for most people who are heading off to work etc, it's more efficient timing-wise to brush straight away when you get up, rather than having to hang around after breakfast until you're 'allowed' to brush your teeth!

My pillow begs to differ😂

megletthesecond · 01/08/2021 15:28

About 30 mins after. Brushing before would mean my granola tastes of mint.

burritofan · 01/08/2021 15:30

Before. Brushing soon after eating is bad for your teeth.

JammyDozen · 01/08/2021 15:37

After. I tend to eat first and then do whatever else I need to do to leave the house, so it would be rare for me to eat and brush immediately. I want my breath to be as good as it possibly can be before leaving the house, so there’s no way I’d drink coffee after brushing, for example.

Before and after if staying in a hotel or someone else’s house.

Hm2020 · 01/08/2021 15:38

Always after my coffee

icedcoffees · 01/08/2021 15:44

After - why would you ruin your breakfast with the taste of toothpaste?

WhatAShilohPitt · 01/08/2021 16:02

My dentist advised me to brush either before eating or at least 30 minutes after as otherwise the teeth are more vulnerable to brushing due to the acid attack (it was explained more scientifically than I have done). So I do either of those two things.

newnortherner111 · 01/08/2021 16:10

After breakfast, after lunch if at home (one of the joys of wfh is being able to do this) and before bed.

This.
DinosaurDiana · 01/08/2021 16:17

If I’m working, before and after.
If I’m off, after.

BashfulClam · 01/08/2021 16:19

@Aprilx read it again, the poster says ‘wait after eating’ as in wait 30 minutes after eating, not ‘wait until…’

CeaselessWatcher · 01/08/2021 16:19

After of course. Otherwise you are just putting food straight back onto your teeth. I am astonished so many people do it before. It's like having a shower before you go for a run, surely?
I have heard all this stuff about dentists recommendations, but it just seems arse about tit to me. I work from home so mostly brush more than half an hour after breakfast anyway.

lazylinguist · 01/08/2021 16:21

Yep. Those dentists eh - what the hell do they know about teeth brushing?! Grin You'd better tell them they've got it arse about tit!
