To cringe at the term "sex toys"?

I hate the 'toy' aspect of it. Toys are for children. Sex is for adults.

the old fashioned term used to be sex aids....which is awful sounding too but sex toys has become the general term these days.

AIBU?

@BadNomad

I just call them by their names. Godzilla the huge dildo. Merlin the mini wand. Etc.
Merlons the magic wand, surely?

@IonaLeg

Sex aids - awful. The word ‘aids’ doesn’t exactly have good connotations when it comes to sex. Sounds like something you might get in those catalogues selling home modifications to the elderly.

Sex devices - weird, sounds robotic, connotations of torture, not into it.

Sex toys - fine, doesn’t make me think of children because I am not a weirdo.

BUT CONSIDER…

Sex Doodlewhackers - sexy, intimate, erotic. No negative connotations. Imagine Christian Grey purring this in your ear. It’s irresistible, right?

I think I quite like sex devices... Wink

@TeachesOfPeaches

Extra boak when an adult describes sex as 'play' in addition to the toys
God forbid sex be fun or playful, eh?
Inthesameboatatmo · 01/08/2021 10:51

There is nothing wrong with calling them toys I dont think, some people just like to bring up the fact that toys should be fir children only therefore making sex toys sound like something onlyy a nonce would have .
People really need to lighten up and get a life or a sex life .

Neondisco · 01/08/2021 10:56

I don't just think toys are for children. Sex aids is fucking awful. It makes me think of some kind of medical device for erectile disfunction.

SquirryTheSquirrel · 01/08/2021 10:56

I've seen 'love toys' before as well.

Lurve-toys for your lurve-making ... Wink

Oh no that's not good. What if you're just shagging and not in love?!
pinkcircustop · 01/08/2021 13:23

There’s nothing wrong with the term “sex toys”, and toys aren’t just for children.

KupoNutCoffee · 01/08/2021 13:53

Maybe sex accessories? Sex-cessories?

Movinghouseatlast · 01/08/2021 13:57

I hate it too. Also 'play' used for sex. Makes me shudder.

It's sex, have sex. Have a wank, whatever. It's not play or toys.

MoonlightWanderer · 01/08/2021 13:59

Sexual pleasure enhancers?

SquirryTheSquirrel · 01/08/2021 14:02

@MoonlightWanderer

Sexual pleasure enhancers?
The seller would be setting themselves up for people wanting refunds if they didn't get any extra pleasure from what they'd bought.
Toomuchtodoo · 01/08/2021 14:02

@CircleofWillis

I agree! I think we should go back to calling them 'marital aids'. Far less cringy and that term ensures that people don't try to have fun with them.
Sorry but I find the term marital aids cringy. Almost as cringy as the term Making Love. And why Marital aids? So single people can't use them? Confused
ViciousJackdaw · 01/08/2021 15:19

No, I don't like it either. Makes me cringe. Toys are for children, aids just makes me think of AIDS and play is so vomit-inducing.

Although I don't know what we are discussing this for anyway, sexual intercourse should only be tolerated for the purposes of procreation.

newnortherner111 · 01/08/2021 16:12

I'm fine with sex toys, which distinguishes them from things such as medication to enable sex to take place at all.

eightyfourandahalf · 01/08/2021 16:17

@Mymapuddlington

I think they should be banned entirely, sex shouldn’t be playful or fun.
damn right. Blame the patriarchy who has found another way to shame women.
MephistophelesApprentice · 01/08/2021 16:23

'Sex tools' makes it sound like vigorous, sweaty engineering.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 01/08/2021 16:37

@KupoNutCoffee

Maybe sex accessories? Sex-cessories?
Ac-sex-sories, surely?

Very discreet, but could lead to misunderstanding and people thinking you have a very specific speech impediment.

shrumps · 01/08/2021 16:42

So weird that you have thought about this.

BritWifeInUSA · 01/08/2021 16:44

Sex aids sounds too medical. It almost makes it sound like the person has done form if a disability and needs the items to perform the task, as it were, like mobility aids, hearing aids.

“Toys” implies fun and enjoyment. Of course adults play with toys. What’s a football if it’s not a toy? People use bicycles as toys, as well as transport.

Try one. You might even like it.

Tal45 · 01/08/2021 16:49

Toys are for children, sex toys are for adults. It's the word sex that gives it away.

Viviennemary · 01/08/2021 16:52

I agree its vile. Debases relationships. No better than porn.

GetTaeFuck · 01/08/2021 16:55

Tbf, I’ve been single for years and will be for many more to come (I’m 34, single parent) so mine are wank toys.

takealettermsjones · 01/08/2021 16:59

What about orgasmobots?

Waspsarearseholes · 01/08/2021 17:02

@Viviennemary

I agree its vile. Debases relationships. No better than porn.
Debases relationships?! What about those who use them but aren't in relationships? Are they debasing themselves? Unclench. Adults absolutely play with toys. They aren't just for children. As a pp says, a football or a games console is a toy. At what point does it stop becoming a toy and its category changes entirely based on user age? Sex toys are for adults. The word 'sex' before 'toys' distinguishes them from children's toys for most people.
