Boring husband

idontlikealdi · 30/07/2021 22:59

We're on holiday, UK. Weather is shite. He goes to bed when the kids do at 2130/2200, sleeps until 0900. Kids get up at 0730, I get up and supervise their breakfast making.

I want to stay up after the kids sleep, have a chat, a drink, play cards or something, any kind of engagement. Nothing.

He's 42 and just SO BORING. I'm watching shite on tv as there is nothing else to do.

Anyone come back from this?

Have you said to him let's do something tonight? What's he said?

YelloYelloYello · 30/07/2021 23:03

How old are the kids? Suggest sending them to bed earlier tomorrow and spending some time together?

idontlikealdi · 30/07/2021 23:04

Well we can't do much as the kids are asleep it going to bed at 2200 every night of holiday is getting on my nerves!

11, so no early nights anymore on holiday!

Oh god. As if UK hols in this weather aren't shite enough. Surely the saving grace is having a glass or 2 of wine and a chat when the kids have gone to bed.

To be honest, I would be feeling so resentful/angry if I were you.

Is he this boring at home?

Kalvinette · 30/07/2021 23:08

Sounds shit

chipsandgin · 30/07/2021 23:09

Has he always been this dull?

underneaththeash · 30/07/2021 23:12

Confused - how old are kids and are you all in the same room?

coodawoodashooda · 30/07/2021 23:13

Why can't he take a turn getting up at 7?

careerchangeperhaps · 30/07/2021 23:13

Is he ill? 11 hours sleep a night is a lot for a grown-up. Or do you mean he goes to bed to read / play on his phone rather than sleep?

icedcoffees · 30/07/2021 23:15

What does he say when you ask him to stay up and have a glass of wine or something?

Jasmine11 · 30/07/2021 23:15

Eek I am the equivalent of your husband, I love to sleep early, I've grown out of staying up late drinking. I'm now worried my DH thinks I am boring. Although to be fair, I do the majority of the wake ups and our kids are much younger than yours. Sorry to say this, but perhaps he finds it boring to stay up with you when he could be having precious precious sleep! :)

Aquamarine1029 · 30/07/2021 23:16

Have you actually used your words and told him what you need?

Newchances · 30/07/2021 23:20

Your kids are 11? Could you maybe have an early drink/dinners/cards while they do something together, even one night as a treat for them and you? Ordsr them take out and make yourselves a nice meal?

Wingedharpy · 30/07/2021 23:21

Is this recent or has he always needed this much sleep?

Could he be ill?

FrankButchersDickieBow · 30/07/2021 23:22

She isn't a baby. 'Have you used your words'. Ffs. Also see, 'do you use your inside voice?' Or 'do you pander and tilt your head to the side in a condescending way when talking to your precious baby husband?'

She doesn't have to 'use her words'. No grown adult on their holidays goes to bed the same time as the kids and leaves their partner sat up on their own ffs.

We're not, static can so own rooms

There is hypothyroidism in his family, he assumes it doesn't apply to him. That just irritates me because he won't seek help. He also needs to wear glasses and won't.

Christ he sounds like a 90 year old.

He's a proper Victor Meldrew and I'm reaching the end of my rope.

9 year gap between husband and I. Believe me, it doesn't get any better. I dread going on holiday! How old are you? Have a drink, enjoy yourself and nudge him awake in the morning when the kids get up and stay in bed!

Only two years between us but Jesus it feels like 20!

Presumably he doesn't drive then?

Fizzorgin · 30/07/2021 23:30

Have you actually talked to him about it?

Maybeitstime2021 · 30/07/2021 23:30

Is he actually asleep? What’s he like at home?

Aquamarine1029 · 30/07/2021 23:31

Actually, she does need to speak her mind because her husband does go to bed at the same time as the kids on holiday. If the op is expecting her husband to read her mind, it's clearly not working. He may be as daft as a mud fence, but here we are, a grown man leaving his wife up alone on holiday. He either doesn't realise it's an issue or he doesn't care. Op won't know until she discusses it with him.
