AIU to hate my star sign?

This is something that has always bothered me. Always. Since I was around 15 and actually looked up my star sign.
If you haven't guessed - I'm a LEO.
I am all the positives. Everyone I know says it of me. My biggest "problem" is trying to please everyone. I put soo much thought into everything I do. When I get it wrong - I quietly torture myself (in my head) about how awful I am. Even if it's nothing all that big. When I do something; I put 100% of my time and energy into it.
I love my family and friends. I would do anything for any one of them. I spoil everyone's children (on DH's side - I adore all my nieces and nefews)
My family - however - always portray me as the negatives. I love my sisters, even though we have had a very rocky relationship. Since moving away from home with DH; they think I'm selfish. Even though we have built a beautiful life. We got married, had 3 children. They are welcome any time. Open invitation. We go back home regularly to see everyone.
This somehow makes me selfish. And apparently self centered.

Leo's are known for being generous. But they're also known for being all these horrible things. It makes me soo sad.
Any other Leo's out there HATE their star sign?
Does anyone else not like their star sign or identify with it (not just leo's)?
Just wondering.
Totally lighthearted. Obviously I know it doesn't matter in the great grand scheme of things. I am (I hope) an overall good person.
Thank you x

@SupermanWithTheGreyHair

It's been years since I heard anyone talk about star signs.

Same. I remember it being a thing when I was a teenager but haven’t heard them mentioned in years til this thread. No clue what star sign my kids are now I think about it.

This Grin
cariadlet · 30/07/2021 21:36

Those posters who remember astrology being big when you were teenagers but thought it had gone away, did you wonder whether you are all the same age and were teenagers at the same time?

More likely, you were into it when you were teenagers and read your horoscopes in teen magazines. Then you grew up and realised that it's a load of bollocks.

But impressionable young teenagers before and since still fell for all that rubbish. My own dd believes in that nonsense. I'm still waiting for her to grow out of it.
I'm a Pisces and am meant to be an alcoholic artistic unstable easily addicted pushover. I'm all those things tbh.

Now if you REALLY want to freak yourself go and look up your secret language of birthdays profile. It's like astrology but rather than you being one of 12 possible profiles, you're one of 365:
sln.me/app/
I've just looked at that birthday one for me and DH and they are terrifyingly spot on. I like to think that I could read myself into any profile but those ones were just alarming how specific they were.

I know it's a load of bunkum. I guess it's useful as a prompt to reflect on my own character, like a counselling cue or something.

Kalvinette · 30/07/2021 21:46

@Xiaoxiong
The website is a bit awkward to navigate but did you see you can look up a specific relationship between two people born on specific days?

cariadlet

I just haven’t heard about it or thought about it. It was definitely a thing in teen magazines, I remember reading them with friends and making it ‘fit’ our lives. 😂 Do they even do teen magazines now? 😬 My kids haven’t read a magazine since they were toddlers....actually they only wanted the crap plastic toy, not the magazine even then.

Just asked my kids and niece who is here ‘do you know your starsign?’ My son looked at me like I was talking another language and said ‘no clue’, my daughter said ‘I’ve heard of them, but isn’t it all just rubbish’ to which niece replied ‘yes, absolute BS’. They didn’t know their starsigns either. Every teen girl knew their starsign when I was that age. They used to be talked about on tv as well, I’ve just not heard about them for so long.

cariadlet · 30/07/2021 22:06

@SupermanWithTheGreyHair Your kids have clearly got more common sense than my dd!

I'd never talked about it with her but she knows what star sign she is (she had to tell me because I had no idea) and tells me that she's a good match with boys belonging to some star signs but hates boys with other star signs. I think some of her friends are just as gullible; one of them bought her a book about her star sign for her birthday a couple of years ago.

SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 30/07/2021 22:24

Not sure about that. They may not be into star signs....but they are into plenty of other random stupid stuff that I just smile and nod at. 🤣 I think I’m just getting old. 😅

Bless her. There’s certainly worse things out there. I had a book about star signs too. 🤣 I remember a certain boy asking me out, we were only about 14.... my friends were adamant that I shouldn’t go out with him as he wasn’t a good match based on his starsign. He was a nice lad but obviously I said no. 🤣🤣🤣 Those teen years.

theliverpoolone · 30/07/2021 22:37

My dd is a Leo and none of that fits her at all!

I used to really buy into it all - I had books about which signs were compatible etc and was convinced that astrological incompatibility was what caused my failed relationships Grin. I haven't given it a thought for years now.

DewDew83 · 30/07/2021 22:38

Mine (Aeries) doesn't fit me at all.

Obviously it's all crap anyway.

Treaclepie19 · 30/07/2021 22:39

I'm a Taurus and I do relate to it.
However, my husband his brother and both my children are Virgos and no way are they all the same.

CeaselessWatcher · 30/07/2021 22:43

I don’t believe in it at all, it is clearly nonsense, and I think we tend to pick out the bits that relate to us and ignore the bits that are wrong - but annoyingly, I am the very model of a Gemini, down to my profession, and don’t relate to any of the other signs at all.

IjustbelieveinMe · 30/07/2021 22:44

I definitely relate to my Gemini profile and also Chinese sign which is Ox.

DramaAlpaca · 30/07/2021 22:45

@Catflapkitkat

I can see both sides but then I am a Gemini
Haha, same here Grin
Mrsfrumble · 30/07/2021 22:55

I’m the least Leo-like Leo ever. I’m quite shy, unsure of myself, self-contained…. The only vaguely Leo-ish trait I possess is thick, fast-growing hair. I’m an early August birthday too so smack bang in the middle, not on the cusp or anything.

Star signs can be fun, but that’s all they should be. I wouldn’t let the negative traits associated with your sign upset you in the least.

lifehappened · 31/07/2021 07:16

I have all the good and bad Leo traits, one of my close friends is also Leo and has non so I struggle to belive it all

Roselilly36 · 31/07/2021 07:24

I am a Leo too, and very much a people pleaser, I am also loyal. Devoted to my DH & children, who I would die for if necessary. Generous and probably to my detriment at times too giving. If I am crossed, there is never any going back. If you upset my DH or children in anyway, I turn into a lioness, that upsets me way more than someone being horrible to me.

troobleflooble · 31/07/2021 15:30

I'm a cancer and it does describe me very accurately but then they are quite general so it's not saying much. My friend is an Aries and she also fits hers very well.

My ex is a Virgo and is absolutely nothing like his description! In fact almost the polar opposite, and he's not near a cusp or anything.

I'm not serious about them but it's a bit of fun to read them and see what they say sometimes 😁

BatshitCrazyWoman · 31/07/2021 16:18

I'm nothing like the profile for my DOB on that site 😂

I'm a Taurus - not really like a Taurean is supposed to be. Except I sing. I'm very determined, astrology calls that stubborn 😂

PearlFriday · 31/07/2021 19:57

Pisceans arent supposed to be alcoholics Confused never read that before.

PearlFriday · 31/07/2021 20:17

@kalvinette i found that site amazing. Im creative, introspective and dignified. Ill take it. I tested it by putting in my xbf's DOB and he is Frank, Spontaneous and Dynamic. Wow. It is spooky.

RogueRebel · 31/07/2021 22:02

Each aspect of your personality is linked with a planet, you have a star sign for each aspect making your star chart very personal, your star chart is worked out by where the planets are at the exact time of your birth.

If you believe in it 🤷🏼‍♀️

SixesAndEights · 31/07/2021 22:09

I'm the epitomy of my star sign, and I'm also my sign rising.

I used to be really into all this, but have become old and cynical.

However, there's no getting away from me being an excellent example of my star sign with same star sign rising.

So it's a bit of a dilemma for me!!! Grin

I've read about other signs and they're just not me at all. Bits fit here and there, but it's pretty comprehensive with my star sign.

SteveArnottsWaistcoat · 31/07/2021 23:02

It’s all bollocks.

Everyone knows it’s the Chinese zodiac that counts!

piaffes

Definitelysometime · 01/08/2021 08:54

I never understand how the moment you're born can affect your personality. Surely that's largely set by then. I'd have thought a zodiac based on your conception would be more realistic?

Hemingwaycat · 01/08/2021 08:58

It’s a load of shite. My best friend at school really bought into it and used to incessantly put people’s behaviour down to their starsign so if someone acted like an arse he’d say ‘it’s the Aquarius in him’ Hmm. He also thought we only got on so well because we were Pisces and Scorpio so guessing we wouldn’t have been friends if I’d been born a few days earlier.
