To wonder what the hell I just saw?

Looking at the moon through some new binoculars and it had a line (shadow) across the bottom bit. I've never seen anything like it!

My sister is staying atm and she saw it too so I wasn't imaging things. Nothing wrong with the binoculars and the line doesn't show up when looking at other light things.

It was very clear and distinct, looked like something was casting a shadow over the surface. I've attached a very terrible diagram 😂

I've just been looking at contrail pics and I don't think it was - the line I saw was much thinner and sharper and genuinely looked like a shadow on the moon, not something between me and it, if that makes sense?

I'm also pretty sure it wasn't a hair or eyelash because it only showed on the moon (and not when I looked at the the street light, for example.)

Did it look like a willy?

OP is clearly not a professional film director/special effects person, so has no place starting a thread alerting people about a possible alien landing strip on the moon.

Could it be the fires in Turkey?

Possibly rupes recta - can only be seen at certain times.

I've no idea. It was a very crisp, distinct black line. We both saw it. Maybe the shadow of a space station or satellite

That can't happen. The space station and the satellites are too small to cast a noticeable shadow.

ISS is 250 miles from earth and the moon is a quarter of a million miles away.

Whatever it was, it has a logical and boring explanation. No need to freak out about it. There are no aliens, no space amoebas living in the firmament, no US operations up there that will change life as we know it.

Was it part of the Perseid shower?

Anything like this, OP? A bloke saw it in Bristol in 2016, took a pic, and then they have a whole discussion over whether it’s a contrail with a lot more pictures of the moon, contrails at dawn etc, in the thread.

Has one of the Red Arrows aircraft lost its way, and gone to the moon. They fly at some high speeds, and could get to the moon quickly.!!

I also think Rupes Recta is maybe most likely? It’s a cliff which casts a shadow which looks like a fairly crisp straight line.

Why are you finding pictures of the moon and drawing red lines on it? Put up a clear actual photo of the moon with the shadow on, sans any red or black lines, or stop wasting our time. Is this a troll thread?

It's clear she didn't take a photo. She didn't say she took a photo of it, she said she was looking at it through binoculars (binoculars do not generally have cameras attached). Later she said quite clearly that she wasn't able to take a photo.

She's drawn over photos of the moon to try to depict what she saw. Admittedly not the best illustrations, but people who aren't great artists can still be intrigued by things they see.
