To wonder what the hell I just saw?

Looking at the moon through some new binoculars and it had a line (shadow) across the bottom bit. I've never seen anything like it!

My sister is staying atm and she saw it too so I wasn't imaging things. Nothing wrong with the binoculars and the line doesn't show up when looking at other light things.

It was very clear and distinct, looked like something was casting a shadow over the surface. I've attached a very terrible diagram 😂

(black is just where the moon is in shadow, red line is where the line/shadow was)

What do you think the shadow is/was?

I've no idea. It was a very crisp, distinct black line. We both saw it. Maybe the shadow of a space station or satellite?

The moon is the same phase everywhere, BTW. It isn't gibbous for you and full elsewhere in the world.

Yes, thank you. I know. I just grabbed a pic from Google hence having to colour some of it in in the first pic.

I wish I had but my phone was charging and by the time I'd grabbed it the line had gone.

No planes flying in my area currently.

Shadow of a hair or an eyelash IMO.

Not all planes are shown on Flightradar24, so you can’t say that for sure.
Also the moon is very, very far away. A plane could be way beyond your area but still show up a contrail across the moon.
