To think plenty of women will be seen in public/photos without makeup?

I hate memes you see going round saying stuff like 'Show me a woman who'll put a photo online without makeup on.... I'll wait!'

I mean, yes, there are some women who won't and some who may not go in public or be pictured without it absolutely trowelled on (and that's OK, they're free to do that), but I do think plenty of women will go out or share pictures of themselves un-made-up. It's not even an 'Oooh, she's brave' thing, plenty of women don't even think about sharing a photo of themselves without makeup because most of the time they're not wearing any.

I never wear make up I don't understand people that do

StoneofDestiny · 29/07/2021 22:38

I never wear makeup - just tint my eyebrows. All my photos are therefore without makeup - but I don't post pics of me on line to random people.

exexpat · 29/07/2021 22:39

Those memes on facebook are just like-farming clickbait pages.

They deliberately put up things to prompt people to say 'no! I don't fit that stereotype!' or "I can think of a country without the letter A in it" or "I have never been arrested/had a tattoo/whatever" whatever mindless crap it is, then when they have huge numbers of likes or engagement with the page they can sell it on or start posting ads. Ignore. If you respond, it also spams your friends feeds.

ObviousNameChage · 29/07/2021 22:39

I only wear make up on a big night out so 99% of my pics are without makeup.

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 29/07/2021 22:40

I agree. Lots of women I know will happily go out and be photographed without make up (including me).

Galvantula · 29/07/2021 22:45

I almost never wear make up, maybe once a year.

So clearly most photos are just tired looking me 😄

TheGoogleMum · 29/07/2021 22:46

I dislike most photos of myself but rarely wear any make up, and when I do its usually just a bit of eye make up

Ohpulltheotherone · 29/07/2021 22:46

I’ll go out without make up but I’m talking going to B&Q or doing boring life chores. I’ll happily do the nursery run or walk dogs without make up. I can live my life without make up probably 75% of the time but I wouldn’t go out out without it.
So if I was off for a day out or clothes shopping, having lunch with DP or meeting a friend for coffee id absolutely wear it. A full face doesn’t mean troweled on though. Most women who wear make up don’t trowel it on. Photos on Instagram are styled for the camera, make up has to be fairly heavy to photograph well. I rarely see women with caked on faces irl.

It’s quite normal to sit somewhere in the middle, I can spend days looking like a hobo happily out in public without any effort but then can get my face on and enjoy some nice brows and lippy too.

I wouldn’t want photos of me in hobo status online though, not because I dislike my face but because I really don’t take a good photo at the best of times, my features are odd. Make up helps but even with it most photos of me are terrible Blush

nc8765 · 29/07/2021 22:48

Agree! Just yesterday I posted a pic of me with no make up.

Maybe it's a generational thing? I'm in my early 30s

genome · 29/07/2021 22:48

Only wear make up if going out for a special occasion and the amount I wear then is minimal. No problem being photographed without it. I can't be bothered daily and I don't like the feel of heavy make up.

noblegreenk · 29/07/2021 22:54

Well I'm happy with or without makeup. By not wearing makeup all the time, I really notice the difference/benefit when I do wear it. I'm not wearing makeup in my most recent FB profile pic so that meme is false!

alibongo5 · 29/07/2021 22:58

@happinessischocolate

A lot of the memes are designed to piss you off just so that you then comment on them. Like the ones asking how to add some numbers up.

The I'll wait ones really rile me up though 😂

Me too - as do the, "hit me with.......go".
EBearhug · 29/07/2021 23:05

I don't wear make-up. I also don't post photos on FB.

GrandTheftWalrus · 29/07/2021 23:08

I'm 36 and have barely worn make up. When my daughters are old enough for make up they'll need to use online tutorials as I am clueless beyond eyeliner and eyeshadow.

stopgap · 29/07/2021 23:13

How bizarre. I happily go without makeup 90 percent of the time.

234Pepperplant · 29/07/2021 23:21

I have worn make up less than a dozen times in my life. Happy to go out, be photographed etc. I look like me, and I’m happy with that.

DrSbaitso · 29/07/2021 23:22

Wasn't there a whole makeup free selfie thing a few years ago? I did it and so did loads of others.

RhonaRed · 29/07/2021 23:27

Just come off social media. It's clearly full of crap.

Timeforredwine · 29/07/2021 23:32

I wore make up practically every day since a teenager BUT NOW NOT ONCE SINCE MARCH 2020 AND COVID APPEARED. im actually happy to be natural.

Chloemol · 29/07/2021 23:42

I dint wear make up normally, possibly when I go somewhere really special, so perhaps once a year!

MuchTooTired · 29/07/2021 23:53

I only wear make up for a night out so maybe once a year. My sister wears make up every day. I’ve always felt a bit of the odd one out as every woman I know wears it, but it bothers me less and less as I get older!

NotMyCat · 29/07/2021 23:56

I would go to the supermarket etc without makeup. Never ever photographed without it or go to work without it
I lie, I did once go to work without foundation as I overslept and (see random man comments thread) spent all day fielding comments about why I looked ill/tired/red/spotty

OhGiveUp · 29/07/2021 23:57

I only wear makeup for nights out and special occasions. It consists of a bit of eyeliner on lower lids and mascara on top lashes....if I remember to put it on.
I don't do selfies.
Refreshingly, most of the young women I know, including teens don't wear makeup on a daily basis.

SemperIdem · 30/07/2021 00:08

I wear makeup most days. I’m not particularly skilled at applying it as many women are, so never look very different to when I don’t but I do wear it. I liked to give my skin a breather a couple of days a week.

I don’t think I’m particularly unusual.

Happylittlethoughts · 30/07/2021 00:10

Always wear makeup up. Would not go out without it.
Feel depressed without it
