Is there a male equivalent to the use of the name Karen?

I mean, are any male names used as an attack? “Shut up, Alex”, for example.

When I first moved to the UK, what are now known as "chavs" were called "Garys". I always thought that seemed a bit mean to anyone called Gary! I think in Scotland "Ned" is the equivalent.

I have also seen disparaging references to "Giles and Neville down the golf club" which captures the ageism but not sexism I guess.

MaMelon · 28/07/2021 09:53

Dick?

PickleAF · 28/07/2021 09:53

Chad?

SorryWoman · 28/07/2021 09:54

I guess "Dave" is a kind of snobby shorthand but you wouldnt actually use it to call someone it

MK19590 · 28/07/2021 09:55

Chad and Craig

FloconDeNeige · 28/07/2021 09:55

I use Keith, personally.

MissingEveryoneSoMuch · 28/07/2021 09:56

Kevin

Simon!

Proudboomer · 28/07/2021 10:01

I have never seen anything in the uk.
Chad is American and unlike karen really didn’t make it across the pond.
Ned in Scotland is not the name but comes from Non educated delinquent.
The closes thing for men would be gammon but that is not a name.

Notjustanymum · 28/07/2021 10:01

Wally = a bloke having a brainlapse moment
Dick = a bloke being an a**hole
Nigel = a bloke who is a jobsworth

Taoneusa · 28/07/2021 10:06

Gammon? I’ve not heard most of these. But.. gammon?!

This whole ‘Karen’ thing has really upset a lot of people and is so derogatory to women. There was a post on here the other day about it. We don’t need to be encouraging a ‘male’ version too.

roundtable · 28/07/2021 10:09

Gary
Hooray Henry (emphasis on the hoo)
Not my Nigel

From my area. I'm quite old though. No idea what the kids say. Grin

Gingernaut · 28/07/2021 10:11

I thought it was Kevin, as in 'Kevin & Karen'

Seen a few Daves, though

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/07/2021 10:11

Gammon but not a name

Inmypjsagain · 28/07/2021 10:11

Yeah I was about to say the only equivalent I can think of is gammon @Taoneusa I guess because they think these men look like a joint of gammon 😬

I thought "gammon" was used for UKIP voting Brexiteers.

LtDansleg · 28/07/2021 10:13

Kevin or Dave

Both the use of karen and gammon are nothing more than hate speech. If either was used to refer to anyone of colour no one would think it was acceptable but misleading white people are fair game.
Jackgrealishscurtains · 28/07/2021 10:13

I think the closest is definitely 'Gammon'.

PegasusReturns · 28/07/2021 10:13

Of course there isn’t because use of “Karen” is aimed solely at shutting down any middle aged (read: no longer fuckable) woman with whom you don’t agree.

Men are not subjected to such opprobrium and don’t need a handy name to dismiss them because, you know they’re men 🤷‍♀️
