Is there a male equivalent to the use of the name Karen?

I mean, are any male names used as an attack? “Shut up, Alex”, for example.

Dave

The Karen debate is irritating.

A word has been taken from its original context (where there is a male equivalent) and used in a completely different way. So you have 2 different demographics of people using it in 2 different ways. One is against racism the other is misogynistic.

The argument goes round and round in circles as it has been taken and misused in the UK.

TheVolturi · 28/07/2021 10:16

It's a bit shit to take anyone's name and use it for this purpose don't you think?

Proudboomer · 28/07/2021 10:16

To all these male names given when was the last time you saw
Ok Gary
Ok Simon
Ok Henry
Ok any other of the above name on social media?
Yet you see OK karen multiple times a day. There is no comparison

TheGoogleMum · 28/07/2021 10:17

I've heard people claim Chad is used but don't hear it that much, nothing like Karen. Gammon is probably the worst male one but definitely feels like an older privileged man. I dont think its a good idea to use any of them tbh

SinisterBumFacedCat · 28/07/2021 10:18

Nope because its misogynistic.

roundtable · 28/07/2021 10:18

After reading one of the posts though I can see how this thread is going to go so I'm out.

Hope you find the answers you're looking for op and that it actually is answers and not just stirring the pot.

hellcatspangle · 28/07/2021 10:18

Kevin? As in if you're stropping you're "doing a Kevin" (Harry Enfield)

majesticallyawkward · 28/07/2021 10:25

I've seen Dave recently as Karen alternative. Gammon is an older, predominantly English term (older white man, opinionated/right wing type).

Chad is a sexually active/alpha male type so not really comparable, and definitely less popular in the UK.

Proudboomer · 28/07/2021 10:28

Haven’t heard the use of Kevin in years and I doubt anyone under 25 has ever seen a Harry Enfield stretch

BashfulClam · 28/07/2021 10:31

I saw an American refer to a couple as Karen and Ken

MorrisZapp · 28/07/2021 10:32

No, not even remotely.

AntiSocialDistancer · 28/07/2021 10:34

There isn't an equivalent.

Calling women Karen for voicing opinions is unpleasant and designed to shut women up.

I detest everyone who says it and everytime I want to leave a comment (outside MN) complaining about how misogynistic it is, I know I will be called a Karen and I dont want to "prove" their point.

Gets on my tits. We all need to stop.

x2boys · 28/07/2021 10:35

According to wiki ian or chad.

MorrisZapp · 28/07/2021 10:37

Wiki is talking shit.

^This is how I see it as well. It’s particularly used to target middle-aged women as well. Hmm

MsHedgehog · 28/07/2021 10:49

It’s Ken. That’s what seems to be used in America anyway.

MsHedgehog · 28/07/2021 10:52

Not sure why people say there isn’t when there really is. It’s Ken.

It’s just not as popular as Karen, which is where the misogyny comes into it.

Altho there was a post a couple of days ago that made a really good point about the lack of outrage for similar names for black or Asian women, which I never picked up on before.

phoenixrosehere · 28/07/2021 11:02

I’ve heard Ken, Kevin and Chad.

PluggingAway · 28/07/2021 11:04

Chad and Deano are both rife amongst 4chan memers.

Bloodypunkrockers · 28/07/2021 11:08

Never seen a male equivalent used in the same way

The use of Karen is disgusting and used by people who don't have the capacity to debate

I'm not sure we need to find a male equivalent. Perhaps we could just not do it at all

MissCruellaDeVil · 28/07/2021 11:09

Definitely Simon!

lastqueenofscotland · 28/07/2021 11:11

I’d say Gammon would be the equivalent

KrisAkabusi · 28/07/2021 11:12

Dick. As in, stop being such a Dick!

magicstar1 · 28/07/2021 11:13

It’s all over TikTok and YouTube etc. as Kevin. Mainly in America, but definitely Kevin is the male “Karen”
