AIBU to get annoyed when I see a question then ...,no? It just assumes the poster knows they are right. It really grinds my gears, for want of a less sweary way of putting it.
For example...'you sat by the bar so you should accept people standing too close and leaning on the back of your chair, no'? 😬🙄🤔

YANBU it’s on my list of irritating words and phrases along with suck it up, woman up, boils my piss

mumjustmum · 28/07/2021 00:24

Yes, I'm completely with you. Mumsnet is actually the only place I've ever seen this.

devuskums · 28/07/2021 00:26

@mumjustmum thanks for your reply...unfortunately I know someone close to me who says this in real life. It is infuriating !!

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 28/07/2021 00:28

It's affected and pretentious.

mumjustmum · 28/07/2021 00:28

@devuskums oh dear lord, LTB

fourandnomore · 28/07/2021 00:29

Hahahaha 100% yanbu and the poll agrees!! So annoying and pretentious.

devuskums · 28/07/2021 00:31

@mumjustmum unfortunately it's not my partner or trust me I would be seriously considering it!!

Dunno, it’s very European ime, having worked with lots of French/Spanish people. I remember being told to stop using ‘super’ instead of very on written reports, a typical French expression.

mumjustmum · 28/07/2021 00:34

@Cherrysoup in the nicest possible way, I'd have also suggested you stopped using 'super' instead of 'very'.

WorraLiberty · 28/07/2021 00:39

OMG it's even worse when people say/write "Non?"

One or two posters (actually might've been one name changer) a few years ago used to put 'non'? at the end of almost every post and they looked like the wankerist of all wankers.

Have to agree also. If you were putting in a report that something was 'super important', that would really aggravate me.

WorraLiberty · 28/07/2021 00:50

Yes, 'super' is up there with 'Holibobs' for me, sorry Blush

devuskums · 28/07/2021 00:54

@WorraLiberty you are so right! So bloody pretentious

OP posts:
Cherrysoup · 28/07/2021 01:23

Oh, I absolutely agree! It was just the way we spoke at the time. Of course it was to be corrected in written reports.

Bellend101 · 28/07/2021 01:33

It doesn't bother me because I don't come across it very often. But every time I do, I always hear the "no" in a French accent.

HaveringWavering · 28/07/2021 01:57

It’s a bit like when barristers cross examine people in court

“Miss Jones, I put it to you that you collided with the Defendant’s vehicle, did you not?”

feelingmehtoday · 28/07/2021 07:06

Yes, highly irritating and I always read it with a tone of superiority on the part of the writer. Which makes me instantly dislike them a disproportionate amount Grin

Oh and also... "poor menz" or similar - usually used in a sarcastic way when a poster says anything remotely empathic or positive about the male sex. It makes me cringe so hard and do this HmmHmmHmm

MydogWillow · 28/07/2021 07:09

Think it's a language thing. I have a Thai friend who says "no?" at the end of her sentences.

whistlers · 28/07/2021 07:19

Hahaha I clocked that one and was going to say something but didn't bother Grin

brokenbiscuitsx · 28/07/2021 07:24

Yes! I only really see it written down on here, not seen it said ‘in real life’ and it gets my back up!

It’s so condescending.

I’ve seen that too and agree 🤣

AtlasPine · 28/07/2021 07:27

It’s a rather weird way of rephrasing the tag question which always challenges the statement made. It’s warm, isn’t it? It’s not very nice, is it. Asking you to deny it.

Very affected and odd, isn’t it.

Grin
ShadowInVain · 28/07/2021 07:37

Yes, it's on a par with 'thought not' e.g. 'So you always stay 2 metres away from people at the bar? Thought not.'

Invariably the person comes back and says, actually I do.

DancesWithTortoises · 28/07/2021 07:43

With bells on, no?

Smile hate the use of "super" to describe everything... almost as annoying as "banging" "banging burger", "banging tune"

TheMoth · 28/07/2021 08:11

It might be a language thing irl or spoken language, like 'innit, but on here it's just arsey and used to demonstrate the poster's superiority.

I hate 'super' too. Surely it can only actually be used if you're talking about having lashings of ginger beer as well, no?
