AIBU to get annoyed when I see a question then ...,no? It just assumes the poster knows they are right. It really grinds my gears, for want of a less sweary way of putting it.
For example...'you sat by the bar so you should accept people standing too close and leaning on the back of your chair, no'? 😬🙄🤔

I agree with you. It's number 2 in my mn clench top ten. Number one for me though is ' Op, I say this gently..' but.then the pp just goes on to state whatever they were going to say anyway regardless. It just makes it more vile.

I hate hate HATE ‘le sigh’. Anyone writing it looks like an absolute twat. I haven’t read it for a little while…hopefully it’s dying out.

Also hate people writing ‘the roolz’ in a bid to show their distain for COVID restrictions. It makes me cringe.

Argh, DISDAIN!!

Psdoff · 28/07/2021 14:21

@devuskums. You're a hypocrite posting this on AIBU as AIBU is a longer version of no? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

ViciousJackdaw · 28/07/2021 14:45

Pretentious as fuck. See also 'Thoughts?'.

Not everyone is a native English speaker and everybody has their own habits.

I find people so judgmental very narrow-minded, but each to their own.

leakymcleakleak · 28/07/2021 15:05

I started doing this when I lived abroad in a v international environment.

Its really commonly done in lots of other languages - I think its basically that form of language learning where you directly translate rather than adopt idioms. So, in 'Hiberno-English' (ie the acceptable English spoken in Ireland) you will get a lot of people saying 'I'm just after coming back from the shops' instead of 'I've just come back from the shops'. The origins are that that is a direct word-by-word translation of how you say 'I've just come back from the shops' in Irish.

The 'Its warm today, no?' thing was so commonly done I totally picked up on it despite being native English speaking and had to watch myself. But its not automatically pretentious. It all depends on your social circles and where you learned to speak.

Pretentious? Moi?

a8mint · 28/07/2021 16:36

I always think it makes the poster sound French, non?

a8mint · 28/07/2021 16:41

I hate it when a post ends _:Discuss' It makes the poster sound like a right bedwetter with a third from oxbridge

TheMoth · 28/07/2021 17:29

Yeah, but on mn I always imagine it done with wide eyes and a head tilt.
