Aggressive Driver

Need someone to calm me down a little bit, I had to pull over to sort my son out as he was coughing. I ended up having to pull over on double yellows and put the hand break on etc, whilst I was sorting him the car infront of me left and then another car came along at speed and reversed into the spot and reversed into my vehicle, not hard but enough that the car rocked. I stuck my head out the window and said you have just reversed into my car! He was adamant he hadn't and started to get really aggressive and said he has a dash camera! I said okay then watch it and you'll see that you did, at this point he started to get more aggressive and I was scared so I just shut the door and locked them. He started taking pictures of my car and then walked off.. I'm worried he will report me or something.. I actually ended up crying as he was so aggressive! Was I being unreasonable? I had only been there for a few minutes..

I'm guessing you shouldn't have been parked on double yellow lines so you're probably in the wrong. There's no need for that level of aggression from the other driver and you were correct to ignore them.

Souther · 27/07/2021 17:59

You shouldn't have parked on the dou le yellows. But if he reversed into you he is at fault

FenceSplinters · 27/07/2021 17:59

Did he also stop on the double yellows?

JupiterWeb · 27/07/2021 18:00

I wouldn't normally but I had no where to pull over and I was worried my little boy was choking Sad

LaurieFairyCake · 27/07/2021 18:00

Obviously if you're parked, even on double yellows no ones allowed to reverse into you. Hmm

Check car for damage and pursue through insurance if damage. Bet he doesn't provide his dash cam footage...

Guavaf1sh · 27/07/2021 18:03

People at fault are usually the most aggressive

LawnFever · 27/07/2021 18:04

Did you get his reg? Report to your insurance and let them deal with it

Hellodarknessmyoldpal · 27/07/2021 18:07

So did he also park on double yellows? Is there damage to your car?

JupiterWeb · 27/07/2021 18:08

I did get his registration yes.

He reversed into a stationary car. He is 100% in the wrong, double yellows or not.
JupiterWeb · 27/07/2021 18:11

No he wasn't on double yellows and I don't think there is any damage, I'm more shaken up by how aggressive he was

thenightsky · 27/07/2021 18:14

He reversed into you so I expect he'll be claiming you ran in the back of him. Its a scam thing round here.

Biancadelrioisback · 27/07/2021 18:15

So he parked up in the bay in front of where you pulled over?

Absolutely no need for his aggression

Ohjustboreoff · 27/07/2021 18:21

Leaving the scene of an accident without exchanging details is against the law. You need to call the police and give his reg over. There might be damage to your car you can't see. Also explain how aggressive he was. The police will take notice. They did for me.
You were not wrong I parking on double yellow if it was to render first aid to your son. Other driver in the wrong.

I would do this in case he decides to claim you went into back of him. Get your story in first
Clangerschick1 · 27/07/2021 18:26

Doesn’t matter if you’re parked sideways on triple yellow lines with purple spots. If you’re stationary with the handbrake on then it’s 100% his fault that he hit your car. He was prob embarrassed because his poor driving skills had been witnessed and called out by a woman! And embarrassment can lead to saving face and aggression in the ‘not too blessed with brain cells’ element of the population. Only thing you’re being unreasonable about is reacting by crying and letting the wanker get to you! You did nothing wrong. Glad you got the reg but sounds as if the impact speed was so slow there’s unlikely to be any damage to claim for anyway. If you need to stop to save a choking child please continue to do so and don’t let idiots like this get to you. Xx

Angeldust2810 · 27/07/2021 18:28

You having parked on double yellows is not necessarily relevant here as it was not the cause of the accident. Based on your version the cause was the other driver reversing without looking properly. Report to your insurance but don’t make a claim yet until you know if there has been damage. That way if the other claims, your version is already on record.

PumpkinPie2016 · 27/07/2021 18:31

I'd report it to the police OP - give his registration, explain what happened and how aggressive he was.

The fact you were on double yellow lines is irrelevant- you had stopped to administer first aid to a choking child - he presumably still had mirrors/eyes! Sounds like he was reversing without bothering to look.

Clangerschick1 · 27/07/2021 18:35

And in regard to those advising to call police and say he left the scene of an accident and was aggressive I’m not sure how much they would be interested. I’m taking it you didn’t have any independent witnesses to the collision or aggression?
Two independent witnesses saw someone hit my parked car and gave me their reg/car details and took photos of the car at the scene. It drove off. I reported it to the police. Gave police the witness details and the photos they had taken. They came back with no further action due to lack of evidence???!!!!! And my repairs were visible and came to over 2.5 grand!
I got other drivers insurance details from police though and contacted them direct with my evidence so didn’t have to pay out excess and wait to claim it back on my own insurance. Their insurance accepted liability but they got away Scot free with leaving the scene and with that amount of damage they def knew they had hit my car.

girlmom21 · 27/07/2021 18:46

Report the incident to your insurance company if you need to but I'm a bit confused as to why you parked on double yellows you were close enough to an actual parking space that he managed to hit your car while reversing into it, as you say he wasn't on double yellows?

LizB62A · 27/07/2021 18:51

If you haven't already got one, I'd recommend getting a dashcam with front and rear cameras - really useful to have just in case
This is the one I've got:

Horseshit. Why do people post such absolute nonsense?

The parking space in front was occupied at the time by another vehicle. Presumably allocated parking at the side of road. That vehicle then left and the aggressive driver arrived, reversed into it and in doing so hit the OP’s car, which was parked on double yellows behind the allocated parking.
chunderwunder · 27/07/2021 18:57

These double yellows sure sound like an exciting place for all the cars to hang out.

ahoyshipmates · 27/07/2021 18:59

You can pull over onto double yellows if you've broken down or in an emergency, and there's nowhere else to go. A possible choking comes into that category.

Call the police and tell them what happened. Don't let the bastard get away with it.
