Just that really.

Painful. Like a deep tooth ache. Making it painful to bare full weight on that leg.

I dont have a fever and I don't feel sick.

@sherlockhomeless

This was my bite, that was a spider bite. I've only just started thinking about going back to work now I've been so sick

Please don't ignore this

How quick did that tracking get that long? Mine has got to about 2/3cm over the course of today.

I literally have no one tonight. Mum can't get here and ex is working. Baby still feeds 3 or 4 times a night.

I'll have to take all 4 of them with me tomorrow am ;/

I would go to the pharmacy and get antihistamine and ask advice. To me that looks like a bad bite that hasn't had a chance to respond to antihistamine or cream. See what the pharmacist advises.

@loopyapp that took about 15 minutes, then by the time I got to A&E about 3 hours later when I'd been persuaded to go my entire arm and into my neck was bright red and blistered, however I am on really strong immunosuppressants so the drs think that allowed it to get out of hand really quickly. But the time I got to hospital I already had sepsis so don't think my story is standard!

However it's not something to ignore, but You might need some oral antibiotics just to get on top of it.

@OnTheBrink1 it was in the garden and it was honestly tiny. I just slapped it to get it away and set a whole world of pain open!

Wrt tracking yours doesn't look like it's tracking like the spider bite. Horse fly bites are nasty but that wouldn't have me rushing to the hospital without seeing a pharmacist first for advice.

Gotcha - I've drawn around it and I'll ring first thing.

Glad you're feeling better and so sorry you got some of this lunacy. Xxx

My exh was bitten on his face by a horse fly, his face swelled up so badly his eyes became slits. He had to go to A & E for steroids, antihistamines & antibiotics. If is continues to swell go to A & E, they can be really nasty.

My colleague nearly lost her life to a horsefly bite. Ended up on life support. Long slow recovery. Had to learn to walk again.

How's things this morning OP?

Pharmacist would usually be my first port of call but monitor and call doctor if it doesn't improve, especially if it keeps swelling. Horsefly bites can be nasty and should be watched but IME most respond to pharmacy type treatments.

My exh used to get bitten by horseflies when he would be out cycling (whoops too identifying Grin). He would have an antihistamine and use hydrocortisone cream. Sometimes he would go to A&E because his leg would swell up, be hard and red and would have blisters on it.

Report
TroysMammy · 27/07/2021 08:44

He would only go to A&E because it usually was the weekend and there was no GP Out Of Hours then.

Right so the external sqelling is down a bit (big ring) but the inner redness is darker red and very hot to the touch. The "tracking" hasn't got any worse but hasn't gone either.

Taken some antihistamine and put some fucimide (spelling) on it. Not sure I need to pester a GP now.

Can't you see a pharmacist, they sent dh straight to the hospital when he showed them his bites.

Report
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/07/2021 09:05

Keep up with the antihistamines in the meantime.

I would show it to a pharmacist in the first instance op. Horsefly bites look awful but it'll feel a lot better once the blister pops!

Right. I'll go to the pharmacy attached to my GP practice and see what they say :)

Thanks everyone.

Still very sore to walk, a deep ache in my heel.

Please see a doctor, that looks infected! Cellulitis is very common from insect bites but can lead to sepsis if not treated with antibiotics quickly enough.

They may also lance it to relieve the pressure (and send a pus sample to the lab) but they’ll use lignocaine to numb it all first. I had to lance my own once (I was on an expedition a long way from any medical help other than my emergency kit) and did it without numbing; the amount of puss that drained was shocking but it relieved the pressure and throbbing immediately.

Op I hope you've seen someone. You aren't pestering gps, it is their job. I wouldn't bother with a pharmacist just ask to at least see the practice nurse, or a nurse practitioner who can prescribe antibiotics if needed, pharmacists can't do that.

The fact it hurts to walk and you have pain in your heel would suggest infection (imo) it needs seeing by a hcp today.

Horse fly bites are horrible. I remember getting them at school, we had horses in a field next to our school, where we had recreation, and of course we were fascinated to go up to the fence and see them; at times there were new foals too.

Many of us were bitten by horse flies. The bite is terribly painful and can become infected.

Please do take good care of that bite, disinfect, apply antiseptic ointment, etc. Don't over stress the area of the bite.

I'd have a word at a pharmacy if you are anywhere near one. The pharmacist will be used to such issues and know what to do, also will advise you if you need further medical care.

I'm not sure what you'll get out of the GP but hopefully more sympathy than I did when I went with this sometime ago - like yours very itchy and painful. Basically he told me that I didn't need to be there and should just take an antihistimine. Even when I explained chemist had sent me he was dismissive.

However, I think yours looks even nastier and the GP is worth a try especiallly if weight bearing is hard . It could well be an antibiotics job.

I think some of us just react badly to bites but yours looks beyond just that :( How is it this morning?
