AIBU?

To pester the GP for this horse fly (I think) bite?

Just that really.

Painful. Like a deep tooth ache. Making it painful to bare full weight on that leg.

I dont have a fever and I don't feel sick.

One of my friends has got a very similar thing also with a horsefly bite.

Fluid filled blister about a cm all round it looks bloody vile.

I keep telling him to get it checked out but nope, idiot thinks he can deal with it despite having issues with bite inflammation as a kid.

Hydrocortisone? Piriton?

Hope it gets better for you. It really probably needs some oral antibiotics...can you get someone to stay with the kids tomorrow whilst you get it seen to?

Germolene and bepanthen are completely different!!!!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/07/2021 23:44

Bepanthan and Germoline aren't the same creams at all.

I can see a tracking line OP - can you gently mark where that line ends?

If it spreads or if you start to develop symptoms - chills or fever or increases pain and swelling, you are really going to have to make a call this evening and get it sorted.

Without wanting to scare you, there was a poster last month (or two months ago) that had to be put on a ward with IV antibiotics.

Be prepared.

Sorry i should have said. I have taken some of the kids piriton (adult dose), some ibuprophen and paracetamol. I have a cold wet flannel around it.

Their dad is on call typically. My mum doesn't drive and tbh makes such a fuss about being a victim of having to help me from time to time I'd rather

I’ll try again Bepantiseptic - I live in Ireland and the name changed a few years ago but I can still get germolene in the U.K.
don’t know how bepanthen keeps coming up - mind your if op hasn’t anything else but that she could also try that as it’s great for severely sore nappy rash xSmile

Oh no.

The younger one is still very much breastfed and isn't very open to anyone else caring for him.

Single parenting is naff sometimes.

You could just ring 111, explain you can’t travel atm due to children. They can talk to you on the phone, review picture and electronically send script to a pharmacy which dh could pick up on way back from work, or you in the am.

I’ve ended up on iv antibiotics in the past too but that was when I had three on one leg! Keep the flannel as cold as possible, maybe keep one in fridge and swap every half hour or so x

I have 3 smaller ones else where. Nothing like this one thankfully.

I had a similar thing a couple of weeks ago. Took an antihistamine, and the large blister had definitely shrunk a lot within 24 hours. 🤞 yours is fine too, but definitely look out for tracking, fever etc just in case.

It could take a good few days to go down but hopefully the piriton and painkillers along with cooling it down will help x
If it happens again, try and get vicks onto a bite before it gets swollen and blistered like that (hard I know)

Katshouldnotswim · 27/07/2021 00:00

I had a bite just like that last week.

Did what all the suggestions said above, piriton, photos, ice, drawing.

It’s taken 7 days to go down and I’m currently left with a massive red spot.

Hope it gets better soon. These things are awful.

The tracking is a concern. Recently someone had tracking and turned out it was a spider bite and she was very ill. Worth ringing 111 as when I was ill one night they sent an ambulance with a paramedic as it was going back from town to the city and just made a slight detour to my house. Turned out I was more ill than I thought and they took me to hospital!

If not, phone in the morning and insist on being seen.

I had a bite like that and posted it about it here! I ended up on iv antibiotics with sepsis and needed an operation to wash it out.

Do not ignore this like I did! Get someone to look after your children and if possible get an ooh appointment tonight or gp first thing. Don't leave this

Report
BlackeyedSusan · 27/07/2021 00:05

Yeah, that needs seeing tonight by someone to assess.

The other poster had one similar and ended up in hospital. You are going to have to think about arranging care for the children.

MIL has just come back from hols with the exact same on her ankle, which has caused her whole leg to swell. She went to the mirror injuries and they just recommended everything you have already done and to go back if it didn’t get better. She had a hot bath tonight and it popped (sorry TMI) but she said it has relieved so much of the pain. Definitely worth getting it looked at first thing in the morning. Hope you feel better soon Flowers
