My sister hates the newborn and toddler phase.

I loved it and now have a nearly 7 year old and am ashamed to admit I hate it. Have another own due in a few months and am worried about giving both enough time as the 7 year old seems to need me so much more than I anticipated.

Anyone else feel the same way? My dad said I was horrid from 6 till about 21 so that’s a long time Grin

I think worst was 18 months - 4 years... they can walk and talk and are capable of causing maximum damage/chaos/mess but can't actually do anything meaningful or helpful.

Babies I found portable and easy, then school age at least they can put the TV on, make an easy breakfast, wipe their arse and accept reason (most of the time)

That toddler phase nearly finished me off

With my first I found newborn the hardest and was dreading it second time around but I loved it the second time. With my eldest they were (and still are) a very easy going kid and rarely tantrumed so the toddler years were adorable. My second fully embraced the terrible twos 🤣

Newborn was brutal for me with all of mine. Then I find 6-12 months absolute bliss watching them learn so much and the personality coming out.

CatsArePeople · 27/07/2021 14:47

Toddlers. They're basically animals Grin About 3-4 they start to resemble humans.

0-3. The newborn stage was hellish for me. I didn’t enjoy any of it.

soapylaces · 27/07/2021 15:00

For me it has to be first 12 months and then when they're 2-3. I have a 1 year old and 4 year old now and it's suddenly got a bit easier and more enjoyable. I'm fully prepared for this to change at any moment though!

Newborn.
I loved toddlers.
Teens are challenging, go through one, in the middle of the next.

Hated pregnancy and the newborn stage, it's just an endless, thankless, grind. DS is only 2, but I've loved every bit from about 6 months on.

Milesbennettdyson · 27/07/2021 16:22

I didn’t like newborn to 6 weeks before I could get them really in a routine or have structure (I’m a regimented person) but once I’d got them sleeping longer stretches at night and in a routine I enjoyed it until they started walking abs constantly opening cupboards and having to watch them constantly, then enjoyed it again from about 3.5 so my least favourite is the toddler age.

Alfiemoon1 · 27/07/2021 17:51

Teenage years ds 16 although pleasant has been a nightmare to motivate to do school work he is very laid back anything will do and says he will do it in 5 mins for hours dd has always been great more stressy but hard working she’s 19 now and since meeting her controlling boyfriend a year ago is a nightmare so this is definitely the worst time for me the newborn and toddler years were a breeze compared to this

Purplepeoniesdroppingpetals · 27/07/2021 17:53

79 - kids are eminently easier to parent.

cloudysummerday · 27/07/2021 17:58

Newborn and baby was the worst for me, I found it really stressful and my anxiety was terrible. In hindsight I had PND with my first and anxiety with all 4, but I just got on with it and got through it somehow.

I'm finding my tweens quite hard-going as they're so reactive and unreasonable but still by far easier than a little baby!! I also don't miss the toddler phase of running around after them and not being able to take your eyes off them.

My 15 year old is somehow much much easier now than he was when he was younger so I'm finding teens easy atm, but I think my 12 yearold will be a difficult teen!

Vilanelle · 27/07/2021 20:48

Currently parenting a 13month old and omg, the tantrums. I feel like I'm on the edge of a breakdown!! They're a bit boring too because you can't really communicate with them lol
