2nd opinion need.... + or -?

I can see a faint line, can you? Google tells me this is positive, but i took it on a whim for the following reasons:

Been taking Depo (contraceptive injection) for 9 months (3 x 12 week jabs) my last one was due on the 16th but didn't get it as i was under house arrest with Corona (my child not me). Booked in for next week instead but grabbed this "just to double check" as no, i have not been careful in the last week. It's not an early detection test though, can i really be pregnant and enough for the test to have picked it up?

Also (apologies for the overshare) i got a little bit of pee splash on the testing window, could this have effected things? Do you think this is why the test line is appearing

I have another test as I purchased a pack of 2 - Just waiting til i need to pee but dont want to overdrink as this could dilute the micro amount of pregnancy hormone i have (IF i have it!!)

AIBU to think the test is wrong due to the above or am i being naïve?

@DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou

You mean the post in which the OP told someone they would be the first (as in before the OP and her family) that would consider the baby as welcomed?

Yeah I think you and I both took that post very differently.

Thanks for your concern and I guess a contraceptive failure isn't always something to be congratulated, but IF i was/am(?) then the baby would be welcomed with open arms.

A clearblue taken at 1130 at night with a cup of coffee ran through you isn't reliable. Test with FMU!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 24/07/2021 23:43

I thought the first one was positive and the second looked negative. Maybe take another tomorrow to be sure.

Oh if i had another to hand i would, guess I'll get another pack of 2 tomorrow and do 1 in the day and save the second one for FMU on Monday. I pretty much only drink coffee as my staple liquid intake, so would always be in my system but i understand where you are coming from, thanks!

I still think I'd trust the first. If you are pregnant, you're very early on, and a test taken with pee you've tried to build up, rather than FMU, isn't necessarily to be trusted.

Exactly, an apparently not even questionable positive followed by a negative. My stomach is so full of butterflies there couldn't be room in there for a baby right now!

Now I'm reading about evaporation lines! Maybe the first one was due to that? I'm so confused right now!

OP posts:
DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 24/07/2021 23:56

It's not an evaporation line.

It's a "clear blue are absolutely shit tests" line.

They always do it. Really crap tests.

Longtimelutker2019 · 25/07/2021 01:18

i went back to the 2nd test to move it after about half an hour and now it looks like this - Help me i'm so confused and have absolutely no-one to talk to about this (which i agree is sad in itself) - I did text my partner that i might be and will be checking again but he's off on holiday at the moment (i wasn't invited ) and is more interested in going out having fun than having a baby so that's probably the end of that (disclaimer - New relationship not my other 3's father)

What are you seeing when you see them both together and should i disregard a test saying positive when it said negative for at least the first 5 min i was watching it for or did it eventually detect the hormone and have it show up?

If you're not pregnant, then it sounds like you need a serious conversation with your partner anyway. As if he doesn't want a child, he needs to be taking steps to avoid it e.g. condoms, vasectomy etc

CoffeeNeeded2019 · 25/07/2021 01:35

The second one looks positive now but I think you’re not supposed to read them after 10 mins or something?

I’d buy a different brand tomorrow (first response maybe)

If you keep getting varied results call the GP or early pregnancy clinic Monday and explain & ask them to do your HCG bloods (they should do 2 tests, 48 hours apart)

As for your partner; it’s tricky to send this sort of information in a text message to someone who’s on holiday. Particularly someone who thinks contraception is covered.
So I’d try not to judge his reaction too much for now. I’d be tempted to tell him you’ll work out what’s going on and talk to him when he’s back. You don’t know if he’s potentially worried or excited and trying not to get his hopes up for example.
There’s not a lot he can do when he’s away anyway (although obviously if he was less of an arse about it that would be better!)
Hope you manage some sleep

Well i was kinda taking care of that by having the injection - Hence why i shouldn't be able to be pregnant right now really

oh bugger, that's awkward with the new partner being a bit happy go lucky...

hope it all works out for you.

NoNobramma · 25/07/2021 01:40

Pee first thing in the morning and save it in a clean cup. Then go out and get a first response test.
Fwiw I think you’re pregnant. Hence the hunch to test in the first place. 🤞🏻

WeatheringStorms22 · 25/07/2021 01:56

Two fairly strong positives op.

In all the pregnancy tests I've taken over the years I've never had a negative turn to positive just because it goes over the maximum time.

However I have had tests that have seemed negative but then appeared positive a couple of hours later. These were at the beginning of my pregnancies when a couple of days later I had strong positives.

Ihavehadenoughalready · 25/07/2021 02:26

I would caution that you shouldn't be reading it after the time it says in the instructions. The instructions tell you not to read it after ten minutes, right?

If you let either stick sit longer than ten minutes, you could be getting a false positive.

Go buy another one and do it in the morning. If it's gonna be positive it will be positive within 3 minutes. Or even better wait two days.

Source: lab tech that does dozens of these a day. (But not the clear blue ones because we don't need a plus sign 🤔)

Either way so do I, he's a lovely person just at a different stage in life right now to me, but we seem to work regardless!

Oh i didn't think of saving it whilst i pop to the shop, genius!

I've never had this happen before either and with 3 kids I've taken a few over the years too. I've been searching the internet for hours and there does seem to be a thing with Clearblue specifically turning positive after 20+ min or so and that this is basically fake news and due to evaporation lines.... I thought Clearblue were the Holy Grail of tests but it appears not when you look into it. They do however state that the result in the first 5 minutes is the accurate one, but like you said i've never had this happen before and am questioning it heavily!

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 25/07/2021 09:53

OP they all do this. Please take it from someone who has experienced it.

You. Can't. Trust. CB.

Especially after the time limit.

Longtimelutker2019 · 25/07/2021 10:33

Right FMU is in a cup and I’m running to the shop. I’ve now convinced myself the test are both wrong, my partners reaction means I want to be on my own however this turns out, he didn’t even ask if I was ok NOTHING just got a 1 liner saying he’s not mad then he ignored me completely, not even reading my messages at all. Got a “sorry I fell asleep” message this morning but nothing else. I hope it’s negative so I have no ties to a man who clearly didn’t want to hear from me - if I hadn’t of messaged him he wouldn’t have even bothered messaging me at all which just proves he doesn’t give a monkeys. I don’t know what I was expecting by telling him, i guess I just wanted some reassurance or something. I was met with a boy who wasn’t bothered and couldn’t even message back after learning he could be a father, I’m such a fool and need to get out of this situation now I have proof of how little he cares about me. If this is a scare at least it’s shown me what kind of a man I’ve allowed into my life.

They really don't 'all' do this.

When not pregnant I've never had a negative test turn positive - even when checked 2 hours, 2 days, 2 weeks after doing it (all things I've done, having another look when emptying a bin out etc).

The only time it has happened to me was when I eventually did get an actual positive a couple of days later.

Boombadoom · 25/07/2021 11:46

They’re both negative OP. You messed up the first one, and now they’re both showing evap lines.

Get rid of your useless partner though x

Slumcat · 25/07/2021 11:46

Of course contraception failures happen but reading your OP it reads like you were due your Depo on the 16th ( I’m assuming July) and you get them 12 weekly, Each Depo given provides cover for 14 weeks, we issue it 12 weekly as it’s safe to do so and provides wiggle room if you can’t attend etc, so you’re still within the time frame of being contraceptively covered iyswim, I can’t tell you the number of women who come in with blue dye tests that look positive but aren’t, take a pink dye test, good luck 🤞
