To worry the vacc might worsen tinnitus?

I've had tinnitus for just over 9 months, unknown cause. I'm still trying very hard to adapt/live with it and the thought of it getting worse terrifies me. This is the very reason why I haven't been vaccinated yet but I've finally plucked up the courage and booked in for tomorrow. Absolutely petrified though. Any experiences? I've read reports that the vacc has triggered it in people and so made it spike.

I have tinnitus and had both vaccines. Absolutely no difference to my already dreadful tinnitus and as others have pointed out, Covid causes tinnitus for many people, so surely better to protect yourself.

Now that I think of it, I can't recall having tinnitus since the Pfizer. I normally get it quite regularly.

Dsis used to suffer from tinnitus, they fixed the cause back in November. She has had the first dose now and she had no side effects.

Bananarice · 26/07/2021 11:03

She had Pfizer

Have you read this? www.tinnitus.org.uk/coronavirus-vaccines-and-tinnitus

Sensible article. The risk of tinnitus being affected by the vaccine is about 1 in 8000, but your risk of tinnitus getting worse with Covid is much higher.

Sorry, have only just realised this thread is from July!

I get tinnitus, so does DD it wasn't affected by jabs or covid.

Ours was supposedly of "unknown cause" that turned out to be bollocks. It was caused by B12 deficiency/pernicious anaemia & B12 injections cure it so long as you get plenty of B12 injections with cofactor vitamins. Too many doctors are particularly crap at spotting & treating PA

I developed tinnitus after catching Covid in 2020. I was double vaxxed with AZ, which made no difference to the tinnitus. Unfortunately the Pfizer booster caused it to flare up considerably, but it seems to be settling down a bit again now 3 weeks after the jab.

I had tinnitus after getting covid last year. Nothing after my first 2 jabs. Covid made it worse.

Covid gave me terrible tinnitus (as well as other awful ongoing ill health side effects 2 years on). The vaccines didn't make it worse or better.

MsAgnesDiPesto · 02/01/2022 10:10

I had what I now believe to be covid at the end of January 2020, before people thought it was here and before we knew anything about it - I was really ill, bedbound with a high fever for several days, unbelievable sore throat, pain in chest and cough, and no taste or smell at all for over two weeks.

Ever since, I have had awful tinnitus. I've since had two doses of AZ and a Pfizer booster. No change at all to my tinnitus.

You're risking covid making it worse because of this unfounded fear of the vaccine.

snackodactyl · 02/01/2022 10:12

I had 3 covid jabs and 1 flu jab last year, and I’ve only just realised I’ve not heard from my tinnitus for a while now Confused

HoneyFlowers · 02/01/2022 10:14

Had tinnitus for years and since the Pfizer jab it's more or less disappeared! Not sure if connected or not.

Hairbrush123 · 02/01/2022 10:26

I have had tinnitus for three years after an episode of labyrinthitis (vomiting, horrid dizziness and weight loss). I have had a comprehensive hearing test and no hearing loss was detected. It does get better OP. I don’t really think about it anymore and I can fall asleep without any white noise/background noise. I’ve just learned to accept it and be grateful it isn’t lethal.

To answer your question, I had two Pfizer and one moderna and didn’t make a difference to my tinnitus.
