To worry the vacc might worsen tinnitus?

I've had tinnitus for just over 9 months, unknown cause. I'm still trying very hard to adapt/live with it and the thought of it getting worse terrifies me. This is the very reason why I haven't been vaccinated yet but I've finally plucked up the courage and booked in for tomorrow. Absolutely petrified though. Any experiences? I've read reports that the vacc has triggered it in people and so made it spike.

I have tinnitus which is a side-effect of the particular chemotherapy drug I had.
Vaccine made no difference in my case.

lancashirelady · 24/07/2021 13:43

Have had Tinnitus for over 30 years and been double jabbed with Pfizer. Made no difference at all.

Getawaywithit · 24/07/2021 14:08

It hasn’t made a difference to my tinnitus double vaxxed with AZ.

Porcupineintherough · 24/07/2021 14:21

Yes - and no. Tinnitus is a rare side effect of the vaccine and a slightly less rare side effect of COVID. So unless you think you can avoid COVID forevermore maybe take the vaccine.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 24/07/2021 14:47

Did you get it investigated by the GP? (I know they've been hard to get hold of). If not, it needs to be as soon as possible, as there can be multiple causes, some of which can be serious, some of which can be treated.

Gothichouse40 · 24/07/2021 14:52

Mine was worse for a while. I had AZ, it settled back down but I only have it in one ear. The thing that has really worsened it this year has been Hay Fever. It has eased a bit today and Hay Fever tablets helped.

Lunariagal · 24/07/2021 15:01

I've had tinnitus all my life. Double vaxxed, Az. Absolutely no difference.

hawkehurstgang · 24/07/2021 16:25

Vaccine side effects are being horribly underreported in the mainstream media. I'm not a conspiracy theorist or anti-vaccine (fully vaccinated for everything, including many extras like rabies and yellow fever, due to living abroad, so very pro-vaccine!) But I studied medical anthropology for years so this is just a very interesting period for me and I am researching a lot, and pretty concerned about the number of people being vaccinated witbout being aware of any risks. Getting vaccinated is great, but going into it uninformed isn't. You can visit www.openvaers.com/covid-data to see some of the vaccine side effects - unfortunately this is just in the US, I am not sure if there is a similar body in the UK, but this organisation can tell you the side effects that have been experienced so far. I was sent this website from a relative who is a nurse in the US. Cases are reported by patients, as well as doctors and nurses of patients, but according to my relative, reporting to this organisation isn't mandatory and so the numbers of cases are thought to be larger.

hawkehurstgang · 24/07/2021 16:26

(As you'll see, sight and hearing issues seem to be fairly common.)

Oulidae · 24/07/2021 16:32

I'd say to base your decision on getting the vaccine on cold hard facts/stats not on anecdotal stories/reports

aLilNonnyMouse · 24/07/2021 17:01

I had double pzifer, and I've had tinnitus for a very long time already. I had no change at all. Only aide effect I got at all was a headache that started right after having the second jab and two paracetamol made short work of it.

Billandben444 · 24/07/2021 17:54

It's caused by a reduction in hearing, there's certain frequencies I don't hear at all, and basically your brain goes into overdrive and inserts noise.

Not true. A lot of sufferers have no hearing loss.

Pinkpowderpuff · 24/07/2021 17:55

I've had my hearing checked. No loss whatsoever.

I’ve had tinnitus since I was a teen. Double vaccinated did get more noticeable for about a week after first jab but went back to normal (for me) after that.

Was just getting over a terrible ear infection right before my second jab, where I could barely hear anything apart from the tinnitus which was 10x worse than usual.
So I was expecting it to flare up again but…..nada. No difference.

weshallneversurrender · 24/07/2021 18:25

I had Pfizer and it spiked my tinnitus for about 3 days before dropping back to normal.

Ratalie · 24/07/2021 18:31

I have unilateral tinnitus, modern double vaxxed. No change.

mamaduckbone · 24/07/2021 18:32

My Dh has terrible tinnitus caused by a bad reaction to AD medication - double vaccined with Pfizer and no noticeable change.
His reaction to the ADs FAR FAR outweighed any effects from the vaccine.

3womeninaboat · 24/07/2021 18:36

Tinnitus since age 5, second Pfizer two weeks ago, not bothering me at all at the moment

Littlecaf · 24/07/2021 18:41

Oooooh I’m a NHS trained vaccine champion, huge supporter of the vaccination programme, will literally talk anyone into having the vaccine

but

I also have tinnitus. Have had it for 2 years. It got noticeably worse after my first Pfizer jab. No change for my second jab.

Still it’s better than long Covid. Or passing it onto someone and them dying.

But I think my tinnitus is stress related. The pandemic has increased any anxiety I did have and magnified stress. It’s more that I’m stressed about the pandemic, I think, rather than actual vaccine.

Littlecaf · 24/07/2021 18:43

I also have no hearing loss either.

ahoyshipmates · 24/07/2021 18:47

I have tinnitus and had two AZ jabs. Made no difference whatever.

My ingrowing toenails are getting worse though.

carolinesbaby · 25/07/2021 23:46

@Littlecaf

Still it’s better than long Covid.

I'm pretty sure Covid caused my tinnitus, so does it not count as a (mild) symptom of along Covid?

You’ve lived with tinnitus @UserX?

IWantToBeNynaeve · 26/07/2021 10:50

I've had tinnitus for years and am double vaccinated with Pfizer, made no difference in fact if anything it hasn't been as bad lately but that's most likely coincidence. Dh has only recently started suffering from tinnitus (ie in last year or 2) , he's double jabbed with AZ and no difference.
