The restaurant is awfully expensive for food and drinks every evening for two adults and two kids. We're staying 7 days and have eaten out some evenings.

Totally fine.

LibrariesGiveUsPower45321 · 22/07/2021 23:21

I’ve done it. Just be subtle and don’t leave a mess.

Honeyroar · 22/07/2021 23:22

Yep I’ve done that a million times. It’s quite normal.

Notimeforaname · 22/07/2021 23:22

Of course! Why would you think you can't?!

DismantledKing · 22/07/2021 23:22

I’ve done it loads of times. As someone has already said, just don’t leave a mess.

AddsVsGeorgs · 22/07/2021 23:23

I do it most of the time

Even had ‘many’ deliveries , delivered to the reception

Its allowed, no reason to be discreet, your not doing anything wrong

RightOnTheEdge · 22/07/2021 23:24

I do housekeeping sometimes. We find lots of empty pizza boxes and takeaway cartons when we tidy up.
It will be totally fine.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 22/07/2021 23:24

Totally fine. I used to work in a hotel and sometimes guests would order from the local curry houses. I'd go get crockery and napkins for them, because it's going to be easier to clear up with them than without.i used to also say "put it outside the room when you are done and I'll get rid of it at the end if my shift"

Tastier and cheaper than the boil in the bag options on the night menu.

Crinkle77 · 22/07/2021 23:25

Of course yanbu. It's fine!

headlock · 22/07/2021 23:27

I went out tonight then went to the bar to pick up meals for the kids. Felt a bit conspicuous with my carrier bag of food!

Of course you can. We even have dominoes delivered to the hotel lobby.

pinkfanman · 22/07/2021 23:30

Stayed in a hotel recently that has signs up saying only alcohol purchased from the bar was to be consumed on premises - they can ask but no one will listen

DriveMeCrazy1974 · 23/07/2021 08:24

We always take food with us to hotels. In fact, we're really uncool and take an entire cool box sometimes, filled with nice food and wine. I'm paying to stay in a hotel room, not to be forced to eat in their restaurants. Our cool box is electric, so keeps food/wine nice and cold. Never been an issue, reception has certainly never asked us what we think we're doing taking a cool box into our room. I recommend if!

DriveMeCrazy1974 · 23/07/2021 08:26

We also take plates, cutlery and glasses. We're very well prepared!

Shelddd · 23/07/2021 08:30

You're allowed.... Don't hide anything.

I always buy a few things for hotel room even if eating out every meal. It's essential to have some snacks and drinks (not going to pay for that overpriced garbage in mini bar).

Bouncebacker · 23/07/2021 08:37

Yep, no problems. We have a hotel picnic - or get take away food and bring it back. We have a plug in cool box, and a picnic bag stocked with cutlery and crockery - and wine glasses

mamaoffourdc · 23/07/2021 08:52

We've had Uber eats deliver to our hotel rooms

Essentialironingwater · 23/07/2021 08:55

Always have. In fact a few times in naice hotels we've asked them to clear out the fridge if there's a mini bar so we can put our own stuff in and they've always obliged Grin

TinySaltLick · 23/07/2021 08:57

This is extremely normal behaviour so nothing to be ashamed about. The restaurant isn't open exclusively to guests either I imagine, it just happens to be part of the same building.

Tell me more about the electric cool box
VickyEadieofThigh · 23/07/2021 09:13

As others have said, we've always done this. Just don't leave a mess for the room staff to clear up (but you wouldn't anyway!).

We stayed at a Holiday Inn at the end of May and because of the Covid restrictions in place they didn't have their restaurant open - they had information in the rooms about how to order in take-aways!

MaMelon · 23/07/2021 09:16

We do it all the time! (Although we did come to regret the Camembert on a French holiday one year..). It’s absolutely fine - I worked as a room attendant when I was a student approximately 150 years ago and people did it then too. Just bag the rubbish as you’d do anyway, it’ll be taken away with the rest of the rubbish.

BiddyPop · 23/07/2021 09:34

I used to have to spend 5/6 days at once in a hotel for work, expenses were not great in that city and eating out was very expensive so you had a choice of BurgerKjng for dinner every night or going to the supermarket and getting some nice cheese, bread and ham...in fact, my relatively decent collection of Victorinox kitchen knives is as a result of getting them in the supermarket over various trips. (They weren't available here at that time).

We usually bring nice fruit and crisps when having a weekend break, and a bottle of bubbles, at the very least. It's supposed to be a nice break for us, So we want nice things to enjoy. And often there are not those nice choices in the hotel itself.

MrMerlot · 23/07/2021 09:46

Don't cause a problem and there won't be a problem. Leave the room clean and tidy, and there's nothing to worry about.

Livpool · 23/07/2021 11:09

@DriveMeCrazy1974 electric cool box?! Please tell me more...
