WWYD- isolating & need to go out

callmebettie · 22/07/2021 07:38

Briefly I'm still isolating due to travel guidelines and only having 1 vaccination
DH is back at work (working away) as he is double jabbed so isn't effected - can't afford for him not to work!
And kids are off school (positive cases in class)

DS has split his chin open, it's clean etc just the flap of skin he keeps catching and making it bleed so need a good dressing to keep it covered as plasters and steristrips won't stick so I really need to go the pharmacy with him and get a proper dressing or it'll get infected most likely!
Also my puppy has just come into season and she needs some knickers lol !!
WWYD, go the pharmacy or wait until tomorrow when DH is home ??

I don't have anyone near me to help either !

I would go to the pharmacy for your DC but order dog knickers online. You are allowed to leave the house for medical treatment

You do know dogs don’t need knickers whilst on season right?

I have two females and I’ve never put knickers on them. They manage to keep themselves clean enough and a bit of blood is easy to mop up

Topseyt · 22/07/2021 12:22

Dogs do not need knickers ffs. Cancel the order if you still can. I have a cocker spaniel bitch who had a couple of seasons before she was spayed. It was only a few drops of blood now and then on the kitchen floor or her bed. It washed and cleaned off easily and she cleaned herself pretty well otherwise.

To those asking who will walk the dog, the dog is in season and best kept at home for the next two or three weeks. It can cause a lot of trouble with male dogs if taken out at peak of fertility, including the risk of accidental pregnancy.

If your DS needs medical attention for his cut then take him to get it. Explain when making the appointment about the unfortunate timing of the injury and see what arrangements are in place for this. Healthcare professionals know that people don't stop needing help for issues other than Covid just because they have been quarantined for Covid my

Lemons1571 · 22/07/2021 12:52

And ignore all the armchair medics on here. They have no idea if your son is brewing a nasty infection in a wound that needs properly cleaning out by a trained professional (and maybe antibiotic cover as well). Steri strips can be dangerous in trapping nasties inside the wound.

BashfulClam · 22/07/2021 13:31

@Blackhawkdown2020 read the OP, husband is working away so isn’t going to be be able to pick things up on his way home.

I’d call your pharmacy and explain and see what the advise. As for dog knickers I never knew they were a thing. My dog needed to have some stitches around her bits when I was young and to protect her wound my mum stuck some old y fronts on her with her with her tail through the hole lol.

callmebettie · 22/07/2021 19:31

Well not long after this the Covid police rang and did the usual questions and said I was allowed to walk my nearest post box to send a test back, my post box is outside the pharmacy so I just went in!! Seems a lot better now too!

This is an allowable reason to go out, if you can't get someone to go for you.

user1745 · 22/07/2021 20:04

I agree with a previous poster that phoning the pharmacy first is a good idea. Perhaps you can pay over the phone and they can have the dressings ready for you to just pick up, to limit your contact with others.

@JaniieJones

'DH is back at work (working away) as he is double jabbed so isn't effected - can't afford for him not to work!'

Sorry, what? Did he travel with you and should have quarantined or not. I thought it was common knowledge double vaccs aren't a get out of quarantine clause after travelling.

As others have said if your dc needs medical treatment, they need medical treatment and you go, if however you just need plasters order some. Or ring 111 for advice and glad you ordered dog pants online

Urm have you not seen the changes. If you are double jabbed or a child and come back from a country except France you don’t need to isolate so OPs dh is right to go back to work. OP is not double jabbed so should be isolating but in this case I’d be going out to get the things I need. Wear a mask and go.

Glad you got it sorted, OP.
Hope your son's chin heals fast, too.

SueSaid · 22/07/2021 20:27

'Urm have you not seen the changes'

Yes my very next post I admitted I hadn't seen the changes..

Anyway glad she eventually went into the pharmacy. All seems a bit of an obveregged drama tbh.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 22/07/2021 20:48

If the steri strips are coming off, can you keep replacing as needed. Strips can be bought in Tesco for £1 for a pack of 8.

If you were near me, if willingly sort out packs for you.

Can you get a video call with a pharmacist / nurse or gp 're a dressing and they might be able to advise on what to use and someone could pick up for you

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 22/07/2021 20:50

Glad you got sorted
