WWYD- isolating & need to go out

callmebettie · 22/07/2021 07:38

Briefly I'm still isolating due to travel guidelines and only having 1 vaccination
DH is back at work (working away) as he is double jabbed so isn't effected - can't afford for him not to work!
And kids are off school (positive cases in class)

DS has split his chin open, it's clean etc just the flap of skin he keeps catching and making it bleed so need a good dressing to keep it covered as plasters and steristrips won't stick so I really need to go the pharmacy with him and get a proper dressing or it'll get infected most likely!
Also my puppy has just come into season and she needs some knickers lol !!
WWYD, go the pharmacy or wait until tomorrow when DH is home ??

I don't have anyone near me to help either !

On here everyone will tell you you cant possibly leave the house. Ever.

In reality, friends and neighbours may have their own issues etc and your child needs medical treatment and your reasons for isolating aren't because you have Covid or even close contact with a case.

I would get medical treatment for your son in your case

callmebettie · 22/07/2021 08:27

Dog pants ordered on prime. Be here later today, didn't even cross my mind that!
As for my DS. He's had it checked by a doctor and a nurse an said to go a local pharmacy if the dressing given didn't work - told them nothing sticks so they gave me steri strips or if it was getting worse.
Going to ring 119 and ask if I can take him instead

If isolating you are allowed to leave for medical reasons, you're isolating due to travel, not being a contact which makes the risk even smaller (probably come from a place with lower cases than here Hmm).

Not one "rule" would stop me seeking help or buying supplies for my injured child and I find it bizarre that people would order online or wait until tomorrow because rules.
You could call ahead to the pharmacy to let them know that you will be coming and the situation but in your scenario I would be going out to deal with it.
I'd order for the dog as to me that's not urgent although I don't have any pets so could be mistaken in that view.

I’m sorry but is everyone ignoring the fact that the OP says husband has gone back to work because they cannot afford for him not to work? But didn’t mention that he had not been travelling and should be isolating along with her as well Hmm

From the wording of the OP the husband has broken isolating rules because he needs to return to work not because he didn’t travel as well 🙄

BeeDavis · 22/07/2021 08:56

The puppy doesn’t need knickers, they’re very uncomfortable and embarrassing for them, plus she’ll clean herself mostly. You’ll only have to clean up the odd spot of blood.

She said he is double jabbed and doesn't need to isolate..

No, we all saw the bit in the OP where she said he was double jabbed so doesn't need to isolate (as per the rules that came in on Monday for Amber countries, which is presumably where they've been).
Lemons1571 · 22/07/2021 09:14

You get your child medical attention. The NhS really won’t thank you for rocking up in a couple of days with a much sicker child, with an infection that needs far more intensive treatment than they would have done at an earlier stage. Particularly when you haven’t tested positive, are not even a close contact, and the only reason you’re isolating is because you chose not to do test and release.

Reminds me of the poster months ago who posted feeling really ill (she actually had sepsis) and people on here piled on telling her not to take up nhs resources and stay at home.

SueSaid · 22/07/2021 09:16

'DH is back at work (working away) as he is double jabbed so isn't effected - can't afford for him not to work!'

Sorry, what? Did he travel with you and should have quarantined or not. I thought it was common knowledge double vaccs aren't a get out of quarantine clause after travelling.

As others have said if your dc needs medical treatment, they need medical treatment and you go, if however you just need plasters order some. Or ring 111 for advice and glad you ordered dog pants online

SueSaid · 22/07/2021 09:19

'No, we all saw the bit in the OP where she said he was double jabbed so doesn't need to isolate (as per the rules that came in on Monday for Amber countries, which is presumably where they've been).'

Well I didn't see that bit.

Still. The rest is common sense you either take your dc for medical treatment or order plasters online.

Kayjay2018 · 22/07/2021 09:27

@callmebettie definitely call the doctors. Our surgery has linked with others in the area and they have a designated "hot" surgery where they see people isolating or with symptoms. Hopefully they can point you in the correct direction

pollylocketpickedapocket · 22/07/2021 09:30

Just go to the pharmacy!

pussycatlickinglollyices · 22/07/2021 09:34

Go and get your son the medical treatment he needs.

JonahofArk · 22/07/2021 09:49

Can you order via Deliveroo?

Hoppinggreen · 22/07/2021 09:53

@HelloMissus

You are allowed to leave your house for medical treatment. That is the law.
When we were in quarantine and getting daily calls we were told not to go to The GP or A&E if we needed medical treatment but to call 111 or 999. To be honest though in your shoes I might go to The Pharmacy if nobody could do it for you. I’m very lucky that we have a street WhatsApp and someone would have gone for me but I know not everyone does
ilovesooty · 22/07/2021 09:54

If he's fully vaccinated he doesn't need to isolate unless they've been to France. I assume the OP meant that he had to go away to explain why she didn't have support while she is quarantining.

Abouttimemum · 22/07/2021 09:58

I’d call a medical professional for advice. I’m almost certain you’ll get a call back from the Gp if it involves a child.

I was instructed to take DS to hospital by 111 even though we all had Covid. Everyone at the hospital was aware when we got there. I wouldn’t just go out unless advised to by medics.

warmfluffytowels · 22/07/2021 10:01

But she can hardly knock on a neighbour's door can she?!

No, but she could ask on a local Facebook page for help. I know in our area we still have volunteers to help people who are positive or isolating.

doublemonkey · 22/07/2021 10:13

Go out for christsake!

Derbee · 22/07/2021 10:16

Not the point of the thread, but it’s ridiculous to make your poor dog wear knickers. They like to keep themselves clean during their seasons, and it’s cruel to cover them in pants.

As for the bandages/pharmacy trip, I would go. Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak wouldn’t even have isolated after contact with a positive case if it wasn’t for the public outrage.

SpacePug · 22/07/2021 10:53

I'd phone the pharmacy first see what they advise

Ragwort · 22/07/2021 10:56

Are dog knickers even a thing? Confused. You learn something new every day on Mumsnet!

SpnBaby1967 · 22/07/2021 11:02

You're not isolating, you're in quarantine. You are allowed to go out for medical reasons.

I cant believe someone said to ask a GP to do a home visit for something that just needs a better plaster. Grin

Unsinkablemoll · 22/07/2021 11:03

Just go. Your kid's welfare is paramount here.

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 22/07/2021 11:32

What everyone else said … but who is walking the puppy? Can they go the pharmacy?
